Suggestions from my library, most of which are inexpensive or free; should run fine:

It's pretty fun if you like setting up space battles between different types of spaceships and and then watching how they play out. The game has different unlockable races and different spatial anomalies in each battle, so if you want variety you might be pleased. It's been too long since I've played it for me to remember all the details... I'm reinstalling to see if I have any of the three DLCs. I also don't know whether Gratuitous Space Battles 2 would be better because I don't have that one...
Currently, GSB is (!) $14.99 USD on Steam, but the GSB Ultimate Collection is 'only' $5 more, and that includes GSB 1 and 2 and seven DLC packs. Six of the DLCs are $5.99 individually and one is $6.99. GSB 2 is $9.99 for some reason; the GSB2 page says GSB2 retains the core gameplay of the original. This is NOT a standard RTS game, but a management/simulation game about building space fleets and giving them orders.

I hope the list helps!
I stayed up waaay too late scrolling my Library view and typing games I remember from my former (2006) computer. A few of the games, such as Z, I don't want to play again after having tried them once. I probably left out many good ones, and most or all of the best are listed.

If you liked 2064: ROM, I recommend VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender Action. If you don't mind these kind of games, any visual novel will do, like Clannad or Grisaia no Kajitsu, since they don't ask for high end PCs. If you like JRPGs like Trails in the Sky, play Disgaea, and the Agarest games. If you want some old but great RPGs, Fallout 1/2/Tactics, older Elder Scrolls, Dungeon Siege1/2, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment.

Killing Floor FTW! It has to work on low resolutions with lowest graphical settings.

Mine's the 3000. I know your pain.
The best games to get are classics, stuff with really good reviews that are old enough to run well. Some of my favorites are:
Deus Ex
Fallout
Bioshock (the remastered ones and infinite work pretty well when I lowered the graphics)
System Shock
Warband
Balder's gate
Half Life
I also like grand strategy games, because most of the player action happens when the game is paused so you won't lose if lag happens.. Games with turned based combat work well under this too.

Lots of nice recommendations here. I made a similar post some time ago with my own recommendations and plenty of feedback from the nice people of SG. Hope you find something there:

So, unfortunately, I'm having issues with my computer and right now I can't use my GPU, and what's is left is my integrated graphics, Intel HD Graphics 2000. I've been trying a few games, but would like some recommendations for new ones to try ;)
