Knowing Paradox it will be another half-finished game with 300 DLCs that cost 20€ each and add some small feature to the game. No thanks. I'll rather invest my money to 2K software company.

I completely disagree with you! There will absolutely not be 300 DLCs that cost 20€ each!

There will only be 250.

Worst part is I've spent over 300€ on Europa Universalis IV just because I enjoy it and don't want to miss any features. ☹️

That's a lot! But if you truly enjoy it, then at least it's money well spent.

Why not wait for sales and switch games in between? And the expansions with features would "only" cost 165€.
Not to mention that with over 1k hours played, you still made a good deal, even for 300€. ;)

I don't like waiting and for those discounts it takes a month just to get -25%, then 3 months to get -50% and for -70 to -80% you will have to wait over a year.
But I guess money well spent if I enjoy it. Although to be honest I enjoyed mods (plain game without dlcs, just mods) even more, but the constant game updating makes mod makers quit updating their mods and they become unavailable, so easier to play just with all dlcs. But mods are the best part of EU4 on my opinion.

Edit: Forgot to add that I also feel like they should include those skins on soldiers and ground in the packs and not sell them separately, I mean as someone who has done graphics for my uni I know it's not that big of a job compared to what they charge for it. But I still prefer to see different "skins" on different soldiers, so I buy even them. 🤤

True, it can take some time on Steam. That's why I often purchase Paradox DLC on other stores. They tend to offer sales earlier and with better discounts, than Steam. But I expect that you already know about https://isthereanydeal.com/. ;)

I agree that mods used to be one the biggest appeals of PDX games. Since CK2 I got to use them less, because of the reasons you mentioned. If you really prefer those though, it's still possible to switch to older versions of the game, in Steam's settings.

The game is not made by Paradox. It's only published by them. Paradox Interactive (publisher) =/= Paradox Development Studio (in-house devs). This game is made by Haemimont (the guys from Tropico). The half-finished games (looking at you, hoi4) are PDS games.
And btw, 2k is not a good comparison because some of their games have as many dlcs as Paradox's, like Borderlands 2, while other just have faster sequels, like civ.

At the end of the day, all publishers have the same goal: to empty your wallet, so it doesn't matter much xD

I think Paradox owns the IP. So Haemimont is the external developer, but Paradox is calling the shots. Which would include the business model and how they'll handle DLC etc.

I don't know about that, but I guess we will find out soon. Anyways, as the dev I guess Haemimont must have some shotcalling abilities too.

To be honest I just compared EU4, CK2, Stellaris, HOI4 to Civilization 6. Civilization 5 DLCs were actually super awesome, and the best part of CIV6 is that all those separate feature expansions are included in it, whereas every Paradox game starts from a scratch not including any previous features and sells them later for 20€ each.

Civ does have fewer dlcs and most of civ 5 expansions are included in civ6, but it only started from the last version. From civ 4 to civ 5, the game lost all the dlc features and we had to buy them again for civ 5. Therefore, to be fair with Paradox, we would have to wait for EU5 to see if they gonna do follow the civ5->civ6 model. I hope so, at least.

I might sound a bit like a 2k hater, but I do like their games. Although I'm still a bit salty since they started to give the middle finger to us here with bad regional pricing (Paradox games with a thousand dlcs are almost cheaper then civ+dlcs) + draconian region locks (they lock their games by ip on international stores)

Disclaimer: If you get offended easily then reading my opinion is not something you should do.

I'm sure Paradox will fuck it up somehow. The depth of their games has been declining steadily and the quality with it. But these are the tropico folks developing it. So I suppose we get to see how much of Paradox's lack in quality comes from the publishing, and how much from their developing, since we're all aware the tropico folks have made some damn good games. Hopefully they won't fall with paradox as dice has with EA.

The depth, I agree. I guess they're trying to get the casual audience on board. However, I'm not sure about the declining quality. Sure, hoi4 and stellaris had shacky launches, that were definitely worse than EU4 or CK2 launches, but if you're a long time paradox buyer like myself, it's actually a lot better now than it was when I got my first Paradox game. Vic 2 on launch was fucking unplayable, only after 2 dlcs that it got its "fan-favorite" status and don't even get me started on EU2, jesus, what a nightmare.

I think that if it lacks quality the devs are more to blame than the publisher. If it needed more polish, on the other hand, it's 100% publisher's fault for rushing the game.

I am a long time paradox buyer. To see the decline in depth between Hoi3 and Hoi4 was horrific. To see how bland the series became between EU3 and EU4 was disappointing. I personally loved vicky 2. CK2 seemed like a solid upgrade. March of the Eagles and Sengoku were both super simplistic and boring. Stellaris dropped the ball on the entire point of diplomacy in a 4X title.

I really haven't felt like the money I spent on a paradox title was worth it since the EU3/Vicky 2 days. I keep personally saying that I want a Vicky 3 but i feel like they would only give it updated graphics and take out all the political depth to allow "Casual audiences" to enjoy it.

The decline in depth really is truly a valid concern. Both Stellaris and HOI4 feels empty (although Stellaris has been improving a lot, the new faction system is a step in the right direction imo, HOI not so much). I love VIC2, but tbh with AHD and HoD + all the patches the game wasn't good.

I know a bunch of people don't like the "mana" system for EU4, but I do. After 100h on Stellaris and 500+ on EU4 I'd say that I got my money's worth on both. I don't have a doubt that they'll simplify Vic3. Some aspects I wouldn't mind, like relations or war, but If they dumb-down the economy/pop system their audience will be furious, myself included.

Anyways, I still hope they will announce vic3 this weekend during paradoxcon :D

What I didn't like about EU4 was that everything that I was capable of doing in EU3? I could no longer do because the AI acted completely differently and they added a completely RNG rival system that basically prevents diplomacy. The HRE seems so useless compared to last time and playing a colonizing empire felt so much weaker. Not in strength just in terms of how fun it was. Forming Prussia this time around felt more like a lot of work for a whole lot of nothing as well. It felt more viable in EU3.

I actually haven't bought a paradox game since EU4 got fucked up (In my opinion). They've all been bought for me by friends. Vicky 3 would be a sequel to my favorite Paradox series there is, so I certainly hope they don't dumb that down and ruin it too and leave me with an empty shell like HOI4. The game wasn't that complicated to begin with. The economy and global politics to it all were my favorite parts but hardly in depth compared to HOI3's division system. If they do make it i just hope they don't fuck it up.

I'm at 80% cautious, this one doesn't look great but I wouldn't say "Not a chance". Judging purely by looks I'd say I'm out. Paradox games are still pretty good imo( excluding their dlc practices)

You need to be aware of the fact that Paradox is only a publisher of this game, not a developer. So it may be as good as Cities: Skylines or as mediocre as Ancient Space - we will see. And probably it won't be full of DLCs as well (for the same reason).
