I never pirated games which were newer, but I did do it a lot with older games. I've been buying some of them on Steam when I've seen them on sale for a good price, and I'll probably continue on doing that once in a while, at least with the games that I really enjoyed.

I've bought Baldur's Gate, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, Silent Storm, and a few others, because they're just that awesome.

I was the exact same way. The only games I bought were the Elder Scrolls games. Skyrim required Steam and I then I discovered bundles... over 700 games and counting... Before that I never bought PC games.

Same here. The funny thing is that prior to the popular rise of Steam, whenever I stopped pirating and started purchasing, I'd always end up with either horrible or plain broken games. I still remember the buyers remorse from Molyneux's The Movies (or whatever it was called), or when the first Prototype game came out and it was unplayable for a good number of people. After a lot of digging from the Prototype community, it turns out it was a sound issue causing a crippling lag effect akin to a memory leak, and it was mostly resolved by deleting a pack of ambient sounds. On the flipside, I didn't even finish playing a pirated game before I bought a copy, as was the case with FEAR and Dead Space.

Piracy has many facets. Glad you decided to do the right thing!

If you can still purchase them from GoG or Amazon then yes I'd say it still counts.

Thanks to Steam sales and bundle sites I will probably never ever in my life have to pirate games again. 1.2k+ in Steam account atm and still a huge backlog of great games (plus some hidden treasures).

Yeah... I remember the old days, buying legitimate CD games, then sometime losing the CD key, or damaging a disk and if that happened a person would either have to buy an entirely new copy, find the no CD hack or find a not so legitimate copy. Fun Times lol. Now everything rests on Gabe...

I think a lot of folks share this experience. Be it monetary reasons, availability or other. I wish all people would spend money when they can and pay back for what they take, whenever and however they can. Most folks do want to support good work and feel good paying for their entertainment. So well done for making that commendable decision and enjoy. :)

Apart from a GTA IV, for modding, I think the only game that I've ever pirated was TES: Skyrim.

I pirate less and buy more, but it's not really that I give a *hit or developed a moral conscience - it just got simpler to have games on one platform, play with people and get updates regularly while buying them on sale then getting a cracked game, avoiding viruses and update it manually each time.

But I will say that some games with a greedy developers that use the early access bullshi* excuse to make money and leave the game before it even officially launches (and there are A LOT of these games on steam btw) deserve to be d/l and pirated as demos before spending your money and regret it soon after.

I'm sure I'm gonna get flamed now by justice warriors, bring it! :)

i use to pirate because i got feed up with getting a game and it was not worth paying as much as i did for it but with steam the deals fix that. no more pirating a game to find out if it is worth spending the money on it to find out i really dont want the game or if i should wait for it to come down to a reasonable price. now its just "man i cant believe i got this game for that much"

Yeah, I also used to be a pirate. Then I found steam and I've been clean for over a year now.
I still haven't bought every game I pirated though, but I'm close. Except for the games that can't be bought anymore like Outrun 2006, they are impossible to get T_T
