Happy upcoming Independence Day!
We have a new big department in India, but we haven't got to work with each other yet. In a few weeks some colleagues from India will visit us to get into the stuff. Also in my last apprenticeship there was a small group of Indian colleagues at our place who were very helpful and nice.
As lovol already stated, the English accent is very special. Sometimes I had to refrain from laughing (not in a bad manner, but sure it would have been perceived as impolite).
Other than that: big country, very high population, exotic culture, nice food (as far as I can confirm yet), Bollywood (not my cup of tea) and I'd love to visit it someday. There are already smaller Holi festivals here, but I haven't attended one yet.
Country's perception? Phew, I think it's mostly based on the IT experiences, sometimes you hear people blaming that interesting projects were outsourced or that the communication wouldn't work out great, but overall it's more postive perception.

Thanks Myrsan for the wishes!
I wish your new venture in India success!
Yes, the accent is unique and native speakers find it a bit strange :P
To be honest, we ourselves experience different accent every 100 kilometers either side xD
Food, yes :D A vast cast variety of food you can try!
Honestly i don't follow Bollywood myself. Been 6 years that way.
And yes IT job outsourcing is a pain point for some agreeably, but i suppose the economic and diplomatic ties run deeper than those :]

Happy Independence Day. :3
Never been to India, but perhaps one day. I did have the opportunity to work with an Indian couple in a factory when I was 20 or so. They stood out because they were older, always so well dressed, and always smiling. Being two of the only other English-speaking people in the factory (almost all the others spoke Spanish), Jagdish (the man's name) and I quickly became friends.
Turns out they were working there because they were bored while waiting for his brother to set up his medical practice, so I'd talk with them all the time. They'd often bring me dinner (Indian food) and candy to try because they said I looked thin LOL. Talked to them a lot about their religion and culture -- they were incredibly friendly and open to sharing, and the thing that stands out most to me is that they were always smiling. :)

I wasn't very fond of some of the candies (American candy is much sweeter, I think), but I absolutely loved the food. It wasn't the best place to work (I was a struggling college student at the time), but Jagdish and his wife were wonderful and made the experience much more bearable with the dinners and conversations. :)

Independence from the British Empire in 1947 :D
And the story the songs is essentially the magical beauty one would feel in the scapes of Kashmir Valley.
ironically none of the Led Zepplin members had visited Kashmir before they recorded this song, only heard about the place from Indian artists when they visited Mumbai. : Knowledge courtesy - Wikipedia

I've been traveling in India for a weeks...coming in from Pakistan...that border including ceremonies is quite a sight xD
Only saw some parts of the North though...mainly Delhi, Jaisalmer and near Leh...actually never reached Leh because it was flooded the day before we arrived...I guess you could say that was lucky...but I'm still disappointed I didn't make it there
My perception overall was that you have a beautiful countryside and smaller towns are quite nice...but I found bigger cities to be near unbearable...Delhi is probably the worst city I've ever been to...and Amritsar wasn't a place to stay very long either.
I heard the south is more relaxed...but thats just rumours ^^
hope thats not too harsh...happy independence day xD

The border ceremonies you mean Attari-Wagah retreat ceremony?
That's exactly what I mean...I was just surprised about the crowds...it was like a soccer match.
And it's probably good I couldn't understand what they were shouting at each other xD

Happy Independence Day!
My most personal relation to India is the father of my former best friend, because he comes from India. Due to him I have read Indian books (from right to left), seen lots of Indian artworks and eaten some authentic Indian food as a child (which smelled sooo good and tasted just as good). He also attempted to teach me a certain way of calculating, unfortunately I was not that interested in it back then, but it certainly had its merits.

On point on all!
We are striving for economic development for all citizens, but the population boom is a sure challenge.
The cross border state sponsored terrorism is also not helping in stability of the region.
The wide cuisine sure helps us keep our mind off things :P

Happy Independence Day!
Personally, I find India both rich in history and it saddens me that the world has not taken Gandhi's wisdom to heart.
As for Canadians; I'd say it's a split between those of us who are open to all the world's people, and unfortunately there will always be racists who will externalize their inner fears into hatred for anyone who doesn't fit their closed worldview.

Happy independence day!!
And sorry, I don't know much about India except you guys have tons of delicious food, as well as some pretty epic bollywood movies. Both of which I'm thankful for :3
