Hello everybody!

I've had this game on sight for quite some time, and I wanted to ask advice of this nice community. I love turn based strategy, the HOMM franchise is one of my favorites. I love strategy games where it doesn't depend on reflexes or moving the mouse faster and knowing by memory all the shorcut keys, but out-thinking your opponent and knowing what you're doing.

So, know that you guys know my taste in TBS games, what do you think? Will I be let down by this game, or is there a chance I'll like it?? ^^

UPDATE:

Thanks everyone for your help and comments ^^ I made my mind and buy it now that it's on sale!

Civ 4 trumps 5, but Civ 3 trumps 1, 2, 4, and 5 - sure they got prettier and faster with each version, but they also simplified (dumbed down) each one to appeal to a wider market... So, your answer is - do you want to be part of the mass majority or not?

It looks cool, but also threatening, like it seems like a really difficult game

Civ 4 is by far better, and if you get the Fall from heaven 2 mod for it, you can get 2 amazing games at the same time. In my opinion civ 4 with the Fall from Heaven 2 mod, is the best turn based strategy game ever.

Thanks for making the thread, I was actually thinking about doing something similar. It seems the consensus is that CIV IV and III are the most appreciated.

Btw, does it have anything similar to the Total War games? I gotta admit, as much as I love strategy games as far as I know (Total War and Age of Empires), I don't know anything about Civ.

Well, here's my opinion as far as IV and V go. I installed the demo for V and played it earlier, and I really enjoyed what I played. It was a teeny bit hand-holdy, which I actually really appreciated. Shows you suggested places to settle, build, etc. I hit the end of the demo, then installed IV which I already owned and started up a match. It just seemed so much less new player friendly compared to V, the interface was clearly dated, and it didn't take me long to uninstall it and go buy V.

Never played Total War or AoE, so couldn't comment on similarities.

I haven't played Total war, but it is not really anything like Age of Empires. There is a vast difference between Turn based strategy games, and real time strategy games. I prefer turn based myself, but I do enjoy real time as well
