Have you been suspended on Steamgifts?
Yeah... quite stupid, since I activated way too many bundle games when I started PC gaming last year I am bound to finishing them and keeping most of the new ones I get on the backlog.
Still, the rules are the rules and I was stupid enough to not activating 2/12 won gifts, lesson learned the hard way.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well if you do not activate it your less likely to play it as you will have to take the time to activate it and install just to play it.
I know for most it may not make sense but it does to me,though in my case it more less has to do with a monthly cap.
i can easily ignore ones not activated knowing i have to take the time to activate it and then install it,not to mention despite having 3tb of hd space i am running out as i keep backups of all the games installed due to my monthly cap so if any big crash happens i will not have to re-download them from scratch.
Anyhow i know why he does it but even if i do not agree with the rules, they are the rules so i do my best to follow them.At this point though i have so many games i have not played i doubt adding another one will matter, but still drives me nuts having games i have not played not because i do not want to play them i just have to find time.
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed... TIME is the key element in this, I only have a 1tb hdd and also have it nearly full, games mostly, recently I uninstalled the games that don't appeal me and the ones I don't think I will replay, I recommend you to do the same by right clicking and choosing "Erase Local Data"
Comment has been collapsed.
Right click, select Set Categories, then tick Hide this game in my library.
It's not there if you can't see it.
Comment has been collapsed.
It's not that I want to hide them but I don't want to keep increasing senselessly my library without playing the games that are already there (maybe not 100% though, but I have some prime stuff there untouched), it might be some awkward way of thinking but well, I'm going to try at least (all steamgifts won games will be activated immediately though)
Comment has been collapsed.
I use categories, I also have some hidden games that I added in a time I knew so little of Steam (Daikatana grade of shittyness), I don't activate since I don't want to have 200 games and have actually played 10! That's why I rather finish around 40 of my actual 100 games and then proceed to my backlog.
If X years later I still have a huge ass backlog and haven't achieved my goal I would rather giveaway the great games I have backlogged than just having them activated and never be played.
Comment has been collapsed.
^While that's a noble thing to do, you're unfortunately not allowed to do it."regifting" can get you banned here.
Comment has been collapsed.
HAHAHAHA no man, I'm talking about backlog games that I payed for, not those that I received here! You're supposed to activate immediately your won gifts, so you're not allowed to regift the games you won on Steamgifts, however the games you purchase on Steam, bundles or other stores are your own business :]
Comment has been collapsed.
No problem, you did make me laugh since I understood what you meant and that you didn't understand me at first
Comment has been collapsed.
It is... worst thing is that I got into a ton of great private GAs, did a lot of puzzles and a lot were from nice people on the forum, FML! When you get suspended your entries get ignored when choosing the winner
Comment has been collapsed.
He changed it today, I think it's still very cool, not sure if it's also related to Kingdom Rush though
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah! It sure keeps the evil mage vibe, just more modern! Still cartoonish, hopefully there's new free content for Kingdom Rush on Steam, loved that game!
Also, I changed my avatar last month, I had seen recently plenty of people with my Office Batman avatar and suddenly felt my identity stolen, lol. Changed to Wrex, seems more appropriate with my playstyle and nickname.
Comment has been collapsed.
it can happen very fast..sometimes, maybe cause of a mistake or because the mod that has your case is an dick.
Comment has been collapsed.
I dunno, maybe they saw both of them on my inventory, it was stupid to not activating them in the first place. DOH!
Comment has been collapsed.
Some DLC, like the Payday Wolf Pack, are visible in your library. (Or at least should be if they've been activated)
Comment has been collapsed.
mods are getting serious with the rules now
AFAIK, they've always been serious about the rules.
I've got a 3-day suspension once for posting a Playblink referral in a Steamtrades thread.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah of course, what I meant is that I saw a previous discussion about a lot of people angry that their gifts haven't been activated and their solution was blacklisting since reporting didn't got them nowhere, and I do understand that that rule is in place to prevent exploiting a won gift (regifting, selling or trading it).
More accurately what I meant is that Support has new mods and now can cover ALL the rules better.
Comment has been collapsed.
There was a shortage of support staff for a while and tickets did pile up, but with the addition of new support members they're slowly tackling the support backlog.
Let's all learn from our mistakes and move forward to make the world a better place. :)
Comment has been collapsed.
Agreed! I've learned the hard way via suspensions the site rules (my first GA was poorly made too, read FAQ and Guidelines afterwards)
PS: I slightly edited the text too to better express myself.
Comment has been collapsed.
They apologized, which is actually a lot better than mods on other unnamed sites. But yeah that sucks :(
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't worry man, it's all about chance and probabilities! Enter level restricted, group, private and (hopefully) whitelist GAs of games you like!
Literally I was depressed for 10 days of suspension and some epic GAs I had entered with less than 50-80 entries... I entered a +1 level restricted GA for a bundle game I want to play and just won it today :]
Comment has been collapsed.
It's tough considering that in most cases your chances are quite below 1% since you have +100 entries on the GAs, that's why I recommended on my post below to seek some kind of "entry restriction", those GAs tend to have around 50-300 entries, contrary to public GAs with 1000s of entries.
Comment has been collapsed.
Give away a bundle game you're not planning to play, there are plenty of Level 1 GAs that will better your odds!
Comment has been collapsed.
I won a GA a few weeks ago but I havent used the key because atm I dont have a PC (im writting this from a cyber cofe and there is no way to install programs in their machines)
I hope that if I get suspended I can talk with a mod and explain the situation
Comment has been collapsed.
If I were you I would tell your case to the support BEFORE you will get suspended. Better to be careful, polite than making excuses later. Support-folks are common people as we are all, I'm sure they are understanding if you message them before you're in trouble - that way it's clear that you have honest intentions.
Comment has been collapsed.
+1 for excellent advice which also applies to life in general.
If it were me, I would make a ticket explaining the situation to the mods and asking for help in solving the problem. Not only would the problem be solved, I would succeed in my main objective of C.Y.A./C.M.A.
Comment has been collapsed.
all gifts must be activated immediately when winning them!
no, you have a week to activate them. I think.
Comment has been collapsed.
after reading the guidelines again, I see that they just say that the creator has one week to send the gift, and the winner should mark as received within one week after the giveaway ends. So I guess you can be suspended if you mark received and don't activate right away.
Comment has been collapsed.
Exactly, you have 7 days to mark the win as won, but once you mark it you better have it on your Steam account, otherwise you'll be violating the site's rules.
Comment has been collapsed.
Pretty futile to attempt warning others about getting banned for breaking the rules here.
If they break the rules, it's because they didn't read the FAQ, and they probably don't visit the forum anyways. :P
mods are getting serious with the rules now
Nope, I don't believe the staff is acting any different than it used to regarding rule-breaking on Steamgifts.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well at least 1 user here didn't know about the rules, at least I encouraged someone to read the rules! Then about my quote, I don't know, maybe since the tickets flood that mods need to deal with I had the impression that they didn't have time to check who activated their gifts or not.
Edited a little bit my phrase though:
mods are getting really serious with checking that all rules are respected now
Comment has been collapsed.
What 3 things? You have 7 days to claim your gift, it's just 2 easy steps:
That's it :]
Comment has been collapsed.
Really? I did activate them both, but there wasn't any option to appeal or submit a ticket
Comment has been collapsed.
CRAP! Now it hits me, there was an "Appeal" option similar to the "Reply" in discussions, since I didn't visit the site for nearly the 10 days I was suspended I forgot about it.
However I remember now that I didn't do that since I figured they would either not have answered it in time or that they would have replied "it's cool that you are following the rules now, but still you f*ed up so you shall endure the full suspension", I guess I was too pessimistic.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think that appeals have high priority since they are in a different queue and I'm quite sure that they would have unbanned you since as soon as you activated the gifts, the ban reason became invalid. Either way, maybe it was better like this... now you definitely learned your lesson.

ive been suspended plenty of times, but for forum related stuff lol, one suspension was cuz i got in a fight with a mod who was insulting me, one suspension was cuz i called someone a name cuz they were a mean human. and another suspension i got cuz i commented on a females thread saying how cute she is in her display pic.
that last one i honestly am more upset over lol that was the stupidest way to ever get suspended, why cant you give other humans compliments? i just dont understand
Comment has been collapsed.
lol, really? I will re-read forum guidelines... didn't know that people were so quick to consider a comment as sexual harassment
Comment has been collapsed.
Probably cause girls get that kind of stuff all. the. time. if they're part of any online gaming community. I'm sure it must be tiring. I know if I were female I would for sure try not to share that except with friends because of all the unwanted attention. Compliments on personal appearance on a forum about giveaways/trading seem inappropriate. And I feel like it's done primarily for the benefit of the giver of the compliment rather than who they're complimenting: "Look at what I think about your appearance, please acknowledge my attraction to you." Who cares? You're just a random person on the internet.
Comment has been collapsed.
If I walk up to a woman on the street and tell her she has a nice ass, there is no laws being broken, nothing happens. In a work place where a paycheck is made, yes, that is against the law. Online, on a forum, no. Unless it is highly derogatory in nature and/or comprises more than one post and becomes something of harassment, then there is nothing inappropriate about it.
Comment has been collapsed.
If you told a lady that she had a nice ass in the streets, you're also making yourself open to getting slapped...

I'm not sure what your argument is regarding the law. This is a forum owned and operated by private individuals. Plenty of rules exist that are also not laws. Laws do not dictate morality either--it is possible to act in such a way that is lawful but distasteful. Also, let me remind you I'm not even arguing the forum's stance on this, I'm arguing the distastefulness of it regardless of rules surrounding it. Freedom of speech does not exist except as a means to prevent government from censoring private individuals. No state's government is party to this forum's administration.
I stand by my claim of inappropriateness. This is not OKCupid or eHarmony. No one cares that you think they're pretty. Your opinion about their appearance is completely inconsequential except to possibly make the woman uncomfortable.
Comment has been collapsed.
As a girl, I personally don't care, if I get a compliment, awesome! Normal comments like "Oh you're pretty" or whatever are fine, I don't see an issue with that. However comments that go much further are inappropriate. Though I may have a differing opinion to other girls.
If you don't want comments about your appearance (either good or bad) then maybe don't use a pic of yourself as your display pic... Hence why I don't. (Still use voice chat though and even get comments on that too.)
Edit: I just want to add that just because I feel that it's not that bad, that others can and will probably disagree. Just keep in mind the context and place in which you say such comments and the fact that although the person who you say things to may not be offended, perhaps other people who can also see the comments might be.
Comment has been collapsed.
although i agree with the guy above that saying it randomly in a thread she made about something else did make what i say irreverent but i also agree with you that she shouldnt put a real picture of herself if she doesnt want to be seen,
but honestly it wasnt like she reported me, a mod saw me compliment her and just suspended me for it. maybe she wouldnt have cared, but mods seem to

Link to comment/thread? I wanna see what will piss the mods off.

This is good for other members to see, you owning up, and accepting what you did. It is a good learning experience and it obviously is a good discussion for new members just starting out to see. Try following the rules to the best of your abilities. Activating a game is a good thing to do. Checking the received and not activating is not a good thing. But you already know that now.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, I activated 10 gifts and made the mistake of letting those 2 linger on my inventory, one for being a DLC and the other one for wanting to play it later on. Lesson learned for sure!
Comment has been collapsed.
I was suspended for win one key 2 times, something that is not my fault, cause i won one, didn''t activate it (so i didn't have the game), and then i won the same game again, this time i activated. For that i get suspended 7 days.
Comment has been collapsed.
Mala suerte... I guess the logic is that you should have activated the first time you won it, but why didn't you? You didn't get the key or what?
Comment has been collapsed.
I marked 1st gift as received cause i thought was other, i was banned for that 4 days, then i won the same game (obviously i can join the giveaway cause i havn't the game) and they banned me for win that game. Life is beautiful.
Comment has been collapsed.
I was suspended because my comment on a fake giveaway was considered "calling out."
He who dances around the edge of a pit ends up falling in, sooner or later.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are the 3rd person on the thread who was suspended for calling "fake" a GA... I think it's a capital offense in SG, I'm happy to have never said that here!
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh being suspended from calling out is least of your problems now. Now users who call out people sometimes that said user who they called out will falsely post negative rep on them and I should know I have gotten negative rep for calling him out. Ironically hes been suspended for same thing he didn't activate gift then again he also regifted so might be considered two things.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, generally the winning of the game means that it becomes yours. Not activating it allows you to give it away or trade it away which is effectively cheating the system that SteamGifts works on.
Still, you should've been contacted about it first.
Also, yeah, the 'fake' comments shouldn't be ban-worthy. The mods still put up with that Skyrim and Bad Rats crap and yet they have a stick up their ass for 'calling out'. Bullshit.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yes, I understand that rule perfectly, it would never occur to me to trade or sell a gift I won here, although I must confess that before reading the rules I did enter some GAs with the idea of giving them away to some friends that would like those games way more than me.
And well, it would be nice to be contacted in some warning fashion about having 1-3 days to activate them or being suspended for 10 days, but at the same time there are too many tickets and very few support staff, so I can't blame them for enforcing the site's guidelines with an iron fist.
About the calling out I have little to no opinion, it depends if you do it once or if yo do it always, some users who wrote and had avatars of spoderman and dolan got banned (don't know how much time) for just commenting senseless BS all the time. In the end it depends how much a troll you are, it would be nice if there was some kind of warning, 2 or 3 strikes before a ban of several days perhaps, oh well.
Comment has been collapsed.
The rule doesn't make logical sense because it's a steam-gifting website at face value but it makes sense in how the site is generally accepted as being used. People just have to get used to how the website works, that's all. The only thing enforcing the rule are words and the 'sent / received' options on the giveaway page imply only sending and receiving the game. Either way, it works how it is but there is no actually system to enforce it. It's all words and warnings.
Yes, the support staff is VERY small but they don't seem to 'hire' a lot at all either. It would require dedication and I'm pretty sure none of the support are paid. It's all dedicated volunteering. You can't expect much from non-paid support staff.
The calling out is just childish in a way. I understand warning people beforehand on first offences for calling out to slander or damage someone's reputation aka hacker, spammer, bot, account, etc. I don't understand the banning people because they make stupid comments. I didn't mean to seem like I'm against those types of comments. It's just that the mods treat this like the infamous fucking Roblox forums. This is the internet. Stupidity humour is very popular. No amount of banning people for stupid 'spam' comments, when at least 90% of the threads make jokes about themselves anyways, will change that. There's currently a 'potato' and 'barbie' pandemic going around and, what, that's not enough for the mods to ban people over but saying 'fake' with no implications is. I'm personally pissed about the Skyrim jokes because I called someone out once for how annoying it is compared to stuff that people actually get banned over and I'm pretty sure I got warned. So, yeah.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah lol this happened to me recently, sucks as I requested a unsuspend ticket the same day and didnt get lifted til day of expiring xD.
Told myself maybe I shouldn't even bother entering in these giveaways haha! I'll stick to giving away games instead ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't take it so harsh, everybody makes mistakes! The worst thing is that I knew the rules but somewhat thought I could manage to have those two gifts lying around for a month or two and then play them, so I accepted my punishment, learned from my wrong doing and decided to move on! Both winning and giving away games ; ]

So I've just finished a 10 day suspension for not activating 2 keys (5 days for each), mods are getting really serious with checking that all rules are respected now so this post is to remind all of you that all gifts must be activated immediately when winning them!
Don't be stupid like me and mark them as won and keep them in the inventory... behold my imbecility:
tl;dr> activate on your Steam account all won gifts ipso facto
edit: Also, don't post "fake" on GAs, apparently some other users got banned for that, better just submit a ticket to Support about the user
