So, I just picked the game + expansion up (I think I might be the latest ever to this party) and was wondering who else played? It'd be nice to have some other people to do stuff with, I should hit 70 later when I convince a friend to boost me, and since the season just started I'm guessing there'll be other people trying to gear themselves as well?

General advice/help would be welcome too, I've made a Demon Hunter.

Battlenet is Larren#2414 if anyone wants to add me. ^^ <3

Gib away for reading this far down: thnx for skyrim

Witch Doctor with Helltooth is doing a remarkable job this season. Sadly I've had to pretty much stop playing because my hands can't handle all the clicking, but it is good fun.

Helltooth WD was also good fun last season.
I ended with one Ring of Grandeur, Mask of Jeram bonuses from the Cube, a Grin Reaper helm and 5 pieces of Helltooth (still getting 6-set bonus thanks to Cubed ring), and the Focus/Restraint ring set.
All I had to do to steamroll Torment X difficulty is juggle primary and secondary attacks, and watch Grin Reaper mimics wash everything away in a sea of acid.

This season I'm rolling with a Barbarian in Might of the Earth set which is just earthquakes everywhere. I'm also getting lucky drops for a Wrath of the Wastes / whirlwind based build, so good chance I'll switch over to that soon.

Well, I used to play D3 till a year ago, then I played a couple times in the last week, and I can't understand a word of what people are saying or what's going on ingame (WTH are seasons?).

Anyways, Ryuga#2311 if anyone wants to add me :)

Sort version:
(Note: Assumes you have the expansion. If you only have the base game, I don't know what you're missing at this point)
Seasons are periods of 3-4 months, and have their own set of characters. At start of the season you start with a fresh lvl 1 with 0 paragon points and starter gear. Only benefit you get is that you can jump straight into Adventure mode if you've ever completed the campaign before.
Goal is to see how far you can get before season ends, and then do it all again next season. There's cosmetic rewards to be had, and any loot & paragon XP gets transferred over to non-seasonal character pool as well.

Personally I find that my non-seasonal toons are overpowered enough that getting a fresh start every once in a while is more fun.

i burned out on diablo 3 and didn't bother with the expansion this time around. now that i have access to so many games via steam i've realized i'm not that into this genre, even though i do have fond memories from the series.

As a previously rank 1 HC WD (Subtle brag without the subtlety) I'd be happy to help with advice, played with a DH by my side almost the entire time so I know most of how they work. I play on EU but unfortunately I haven't logged in since the new season because we all hopped over to Blade & Soul when it came out, but we still go back from time to time.

Wow, was playing hc fun? xD I'd be terrified about losing my character all the time, since I always die to silly stuff (or alt tabbing to reply on Skype).

I've swapped to witch doctor now and enjoying it a lot more. :D my gear is pretty decent, hoping to get on the leaderboard next week. My main problem is positioning/how to do grifts properly, since I can never find anyone streaming solo witch doctor plays.

Absolutely. I can't fathom going back to sc. I was at the top back before paragon levels, when dying meant a lot more, but now with paragon bonuses, I feel there's even less excuse not to play hc. You're always progressing and never truly "lose it all". Your efforts are never totally in vein. To top it off, I used to play vampire bat doctor, so I was always tanking up close with the most anti-disconnect build possible, on an unstable 3mb god awful internet.

After a year long break, I came back to the game, logged in to my 300 hours played WD and started taking a look at the newly implemented grifts. 30 minutes in to my return, my internet lagged out and I died. Absolutely the worst way to go, but it legitimately didn't bother me for more than 5 minutes because those 300 hours kept me so much on the edge of my seat and more entertained that I just couldn't compare it to my sc days.

In terms of positioning, it depends on what the current meta is right now. The last time I played it was all about my favourite build so far, the mass fetish dagger doctor. If you're doing that, I can tell you about literally everything the build is about, although in pbe back then, people seemed to be leaning towards some new op poison zombie build because of a set bonus change.

One thing I will say about playing hc, is playing with a group is obviously infinitely better than solo as a disconnect counter measure. Probably about 60% of the time, I was in a group with friends on skype/discord and the second we noticed someone drop, we always rushed towards their character to defend the area until their character disconnects. Of course you don't have that benefit in solo which makes it a lot riskier.

Cudos on trying to do research by finding a streamer, that's absolutely something I recommend to people and do a lot myself when getting in to new games (like blade and soul right now), but D3 isn't exactly a fun game to watch, so its streaming community isn't particularly en masse anymore, maybe occasionally HC because people like to watch others die, but yeah. It's not really the same and I don't find it as entertaining, but I imagine there are a lot of youtube vods where you could achieve the same educational end result.

"people like to watch others die" it would make me so sad xD I don't think I could even cope with watching someone else losing a character they put that much time into.

Current meta seems to be LoN with full ancient set, and firebats. (: so close range, rather then the afk pet build I've been running while I've tried to get decent stats on my ancient stuff.

I do need to find a group to play with, but I'm not sure where the best place to investigate clans or whatever is. I'd quite like a decent one with a teamspeak, and as I'm 24, would prefer it not to be full of sixteen year old boys. =/

Back when D3 was a lot bigger and Kripp was #1 streamer on twitch, he died while rank 1 to an elite pack while chest farming, and was legitimately laughing about it. Then again in path of exile. It sucks for the first few minutes but you go in to HC with the mentally of accepting your inevitable death and it gets a lot easier.

Is that legacy of nightmares? They actually made a different ring set other than 100% of people using focus/restraint? God that took long enough. Which pet build were you doing? Because carnevil was by far my favourite build in the whole game back before they nerfed the dart count. There isn't really much to vampire bats, you'll mostly be face tanking so you want a lot of life on hit which scales a lot better than lifesteal, and w/e that gem that scales defensively and damage when you stand on the spot. The most important thing to keep in mind is elemental damage bonus on your items which most newer players seem to forget about.

Oh god don't remind me... 24 here too, been recruiting a guild in Blade and we had our first 6man full premade run the other day, other than my two friends, none of them were over the age of 17. Isn't the average gamer meant to be mid 20s these days? Because it sure as hell doesn't feel like it, lately I just feel old.
