The Winamp Lite version of 3 wasn't as badly bloated as the regular version, but I never bothered to install Winamp after switching PCs.
I'm honestly more worried about Shoutcast. Winamp's web page still lists Shoutcast as a Winamp service, and Winamp services are getting shut down as well. And I used Beat Hazard's Shoutcast support.

Whether or not the Shoutcast website goes down is irrelevant. All it does is index radio stations. People can still run Shoutcast servers without announcing them to shoutcast.com, and you can still connect to them.

I've been using Foobar2000 for years, and I don't plan on changing any time soon. I used Winamp a long time ago and it's a shame to see it go, but considering what it became in more recent years I'm not sad about it at all.

That sucks. I've been a Winamp fan since the 90's.
I'm still using it to listen music from my hard drive.

Windows Mediaplayer eats up lots of resources, even when you're not using it. It's been like that since version 9 of WMP and that's one of the main reasons I'm not using it myself. Not to mention, I'm trying to use my PC with as little MickeySoft software as possible. I'm real sad that the inferior Windows has made it to our #1 OS while back in the past there were so many more and much better alternatives...

Ive never found WMP eats too many resources, it uses 0-1% of my CPU playing music in the background, and less memory than having Steam open.
I guess there might be people with lower specs that may find it drains too much, but its fine for me (although I preferred the layout of WMP9 to the newest version)

haha...on winamp i have to download some things to make my 5.1 work (witch has no logic)...I always use AIMP for music and BSPlayer for videos.

Found the article as well. I'm quite sad that WinAMP is about to shut down. Though the later versions all have lots of unused options, I still am using an older one (5.5.x) and still love that one over all other players. I only wish WinAMP would have added DVD/BluRay playback to their player as well.

Sad. Winamp was brilliant. Well, Winamp Lite, at least. But the good thing to come out of it is that it's easier than ever to find a good music player because people are giving Winamp-alternative recommendations wherever you look.
AIMP3 is my new favourite.

Winamp has been my music player of choice for many years now, and I'm shocked to learn that it's going to be shut down. I sincerely hope that the code will become open source or that someone will buy the rights from AOL and continue development. Winamp is one of the very few pieces of software that I've used consistently throughout the years, and I'd really prefer not to have to replace it eventually.

Shame, they are legendary piece of software ever created. I stopped using them years ago tho, latest version is full of bloat and features that I don't need. Now I'm using AIMP3 which is simple and lightweight enough for me.

UPDATE: AOL reportedly to sell Winamp to Microsoft Linky
