Shirosaki was too big for a forum name so I switched to Shiro (which is shorter) and PT because I'm from Portugal

I was watching 'Flight of the Dragons' with friends at university in a drunk, hungover, or other not-so-switched on state of mind. The character Sir Orrin Neville-Smythe appeared and my name was adapted to Sir Davington Smythe. Seemed hilarious at the time. It's been shortened since, but has stuck.

Years ago (not sure exactly when, between 2003 and 2007) I decided to come back to a forum I knew, Gaming Brasil, a well known site in the time that dabbled in game design (it's dead now, unfortunately). I had an account, but for whatever motive I decided to create a new one. My previous username was terrible, and I didn't know what to choose. I eventually came up with the name "Script", to reflect both game programmming and story/dialogue documents (not very creative, I know). The forum didn't let me choose only "Script", though, maybe because it was too generic. So I added "-br" to stay with the name script and reflect my nationality, even though it was a brazillian forum.
During the years I tried to change my username, but I always came back to variations of Script/Script-br/Scriptbr, both because I didn't know what else to pick and because I met lots of people and made friends in that forum and on others sites.
I don't like my username very much but I grew attached to it. It's my persona on the internet, and though I want to change it, it's more probable I will stay with it for a few more years.

Not very interesting. A friend and I played EverQuest. My nec's (main character) name was Valcrae, and my friend was Monet. We decided to make alts and level them up. Mine was Valukai and my friend was Monukai. Then when I went to WoW I stole both names, my first main was my rogue which was originally called Valukai and I named my alt Monukai. I leveled Monukai up to 60 a few weeks before TBC and then main-switched a week or two into TBC (I think I did like 1 or 2 Karazhan raids on my rogue before switching).

My old nickname was too lame so I was about to get a new one noone else uses, I then thought, why not write some random stuff in the latin translator, voila.
I wrote lacerate into it and one of the translated words said Raptura, so I took it.....not a really interesting story though ^^

Clicky Well my name is like a diminutive for "Chinga tu Madre" in Spanish, that means Fuck Your Mother, in English is like "CKUMOTHER" it does't have sense in English actually, because the syllables "Chin-ga" have two and "Fuck" only one. And people start call me just "GATU" so thats my actual Nick ;P I use to Use DanteNoMercy nick, from DevilMayCry. And im planing to change my nick to something more personal, like Hellgasc that would be ["Hell"+ my complete Name initials]

well, depends on which nickname. vinceis1337, just had to come up with it a nickname and that's what I generally go by. If I'm playing on steam I go by payne, which is because I was a big fan of Max Payne the game.
Edit: the movie sucked. :(

I choose Leon Belmont because I love the PS2 Game, Castlevania Lament of Innocence, I really liked so very much, from the day it went out, I used Leon Belmont for almost everything! And some friends now knows me as Leon! :D

I've been using the name Doc since Guild Wars(1) released. Played a monk in that so I figured Doc sort of fit and my uncle was a Medic in the army for 22+ years which earned him the nickname Doc(101st and 82nd), so I sort of stole it from him too. MBDf is my clan's shorthandle.

I chose mine way back for the original Unreal Tournament. We were reading the Iliad in Honors English and we got to the part about Odysseus and Polyphemus, where Odysseus pokes out the cyclops' eye. Odysseus tells the cyclops his name is Nobody and when the cyclops told his friends who hurt him all he could say was "Nobody". It seemed to be something fun to do within the game modes offered (Nobody has the flag! You were killed by Nobody! etc). The MK came from modern online games almost always having Nobody already taken. It's to form the thought I'm Nobody mmmm 'kay?

Nicknames are something special... they are choosen wisely and nearly all of them have an interesting story behind it.
Tell us your story :) Why did you choose that nickname?
I will start:
I've chosen "Dotty" some years ago. It all started with a smiley face i wanted to copy and paste as my name... accidentaly i copied only a part of that smiley. so my name was just "•". But at some servers at CS:S, admins where complaining about my name, because they didn't know how to call me... so I named me "• Dotty". Because its a dot and so on xD
Thats the story of my nick.
What about your nick? :D
