That was a bad game. Its shameful that a scoreless draw nets anyone points. It should be zeros for both teams. There shouldn't be an incentive to play it safe for 90 minutes.

Agreed, but what match isn't stressful? Lol. Still, look at the bright side. Parking the bus is a natural thing for the U.S in general. Maybe they score a second from a counter? Good match so far.

Christ alive, they need to be drinking more water days before the match. They were having all sorts of cramps, strains, and side-stitches. It always amazes me when athletes aren't properly hydrated.

I know, but its not like the humidity was a surprise. Its just frustrating to watch people play at less than full potential because of something so simple.

it's pretty ludicrous how dehydrated most people on the planet are a majority of the time

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

True enough. Although a big part of that has to do with a lack of access to clean freshwater, but even people with running water in their house rarely drink enough. I've spent enough time in deserts and jungles to know well the value of water, and I still drink a ton of it.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hell yeah!

Now if the US gets at least a draw against Portugal, the way out of the group becomes much easier. If Germany does beat Ghana as expected, assuming the US can draw with Portugal, Germany will go into the final game with the US with little to play for. A draw there guarantees 2nd in the group and even a loss isn't crippling as long as it isn't a one sided disaster, since Portugal would need to completely smash Ghana to make up for that goal differential after getting walloped by Germany.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I've started watching soccer, because I need something to watch during the long off-season for college football. Baseball and basketball are both terrible. One's incredibly dull and the other is far too much of an individual sport, with the worst reffing of any sport. NBA games have looked fixed for years. So I didn't have many options.

The Portland Timbers joining MLS at least gave me a local team to root for, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah I really enjoy MLS actually. It's obviously a lower bar than the top leagues, but it still manages to be competitive (and fun).

The big boys are truly awesome though; BPL, Bundislega, and La Liga are the bomb

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't deny that the skill level is much higher in the top leagues, but I just have a hard time watching anything unless I have someone to root for. That's why I don't really watch the NFL, even though I like football. I don't have anything vaguely resembling a home team.

Hockey can be a lot of fun to watch, and it runs a few months after the end of college football, but I still don't have a team to root for. I need a reason to be invested.

They'll make it to the second round most likely but they'll get smashed by Netherlands if they get the second seed in the group. Even if they get the first seed in their group they won't make it past the third round. Only thing keeping them alive is the refs.

Feel like Mexico just wants to stall for the draw

Permalink

That's why I hate that 0-0 draws net anyone a point. If you're incapable of scoring, you shouldn't be rewarded, and it just encourages teams to stall for a draw, rather than giving it your all.

I think there should be a sudden-death overtime, though I may be biased from watching hockey.
