I hope we get to see Germany vs. the Netherlands, at some point. Both of those teams have been very impressive, but Germany seems downright lethal.

Football isn't a job that puts the bread on the table, when you are 40+. I see nothing wrong there that he would do such a move.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

yah 40+ is ok but not for a good player like xavi (34 years old) . Same thing happened to Raul,Forlan and ...

They could chose better leagues to play in like Henry,Beckham,Marquez and ... but they prefer money over football.

Still i think its a wrong thing to do for a great player to play in a country which doesnt have anything in football

Permalink

I think you misunderstood me. What I meant with that 40+ is that, if you are that old you can't play football anymore on the level that earns you enough money. Usually the football is the only thing that those men can do well so they have to make retirement money before the "best before" is over.

He is, but you save the three substitutions for players that can change the game or as a replacement for tired players. When you're two down, you need to make attacking changes, not defensive.

He is top class goalkeeper tbh, but the sad reality is he missed more goals these last 2 games than the last 3 big tournaments Spain played (Euro 2008, WC 2010, Euro 2012) from all the matches combined. I blame the defense and the total lack of motivation that resulted in an annihilation in their first game with Holland.

I think many people are relieved that Spain's world domination is finally over, but there was no need for this kind of self-humiliation. They could have lost in the quarter finals, like they always used to before 2008.

It's the end of an era. I'm sad it had to end the way it has though. I will always look fondly at the 2008 and 2010 Spanish teams as ones that played with such flair and elegance. An amazing tournament so far.
