Ahahaha I've always pronounced it with the soft G. I see now that I am in the minority!

It's pronounced JIF, I know this because the format's creators have been saying so since it's inception... also, I much prefer hearing people saying 'Jif' as opposed to the sound of my hand slapping the back of their head every time they say 'Gif' near me.

I pronounce it JIF because "gif" from english is "ghif" in romanian, and "jif" in english is "gif" in romanian. Also, english has weird pronunciation rules. For example, "girl" in english would be "gărl" in romanian, and "steamgifts" would be "stimghifts" in romanian.and "vagina" in english would be "văgiana" in romanian. In my language, a letter or a group of letters are always pronounced the same way.

I've always pronounced it like the G in "image" - soft

GIF as in Bumpage.
Some friends say it with the other G, and sometimes I'll switch around them.

Generally I get how this gigantic gulf in usage gathers strangers to argue garbage. Gee, I could go for a goat gif to get me out of this cage. :)

how google voice pronounce it? you should listen the oracle.

If it's preceded by "dot" I think "jif" sounds better, but otherwise think I'm more prone to saying "gif" as in "gift"
