Well, did you know about this feature before?
Hm, I noticed the different colours of the names before, but I never asked myself the reason behind it, so no, I didn't know it's depending on the GA.
And thx for the train :)
PS: I noticed right away that the Operator GA doesn't really fit in there, haha.

Woah! π€―
I noticed the colours but thought everyone was assigned one randomly (except those who donate). I guess the same applies to everyone's profile page too, I was happy I was given green! And now I know why ;)
I never noticed my name was a different colour on my own giveaways!

Background color of the profile
I wasn't aware of this at all.
I just thought that the color was tinted with the vengeance of humanity. (Just kidding.)
Is it a hidden feature
Cheating in SG will get you kicked off the planet.πγπγβ
This was ordained by the Emperor(Space cat) of the Universe to assume the position of Lord of the Sun "in order to give the best position to the wrongdoers.
Just kidding of course. There are many would-be lords out there. The mortality rate is 100%.
Hidden features?γI don't know what it was... I can't remember now.

i knew the names had different colors but never realised there was a pattern :o
your profile background works in a similar way as far as i can tell.
it extracts one (or multiple, not sure) color from your profile picture and mixes it with the "standard" black one.

Thank you for the train and interesting info (never heard about this feature before)

Yep, have known about this for a long while. (And the similar colouring thing with people's profiles taking from their avatars which someone else already mentioned above).
The case with the first giveaway is pretty interesting though. I kinda assumed the colour would be calculated on creation, but the image you posted (or another similarly blue-dominant older image) is definitely being used. My first theory was that the game's devs changed the image in the 24 hours since you made the giveaway, but if I preview making a giveaway for the same game, it still uses blue. So, that only leaves SG having the older colour saved somewhere. Maybe storing a colour for every app on Steam is more efficient that calculating it on giveaway creation? That kinda also brings up the question of "How long does it take for their profile's colour to update after someone changes their avatar?". ^_^'
But I guess the biggest question is- How did you know this game would give you blue to even consider it for the train? Sure, it shows blue when previewing the giveaway, but until then there is no indication that it would be anything other than red. :P

Truth be told, I've had this idea in my head for quite a while, and when I wanted to do it probably 2 years ago, I just didn't have enough games that were "blue" to do a nice train. One of games I did have however, was in fact Skyhill, which back then, still had older miniature.
And with Fanatical's "order history & keys" tab using game miniatures, all I had to do was browse my Fanatical unused keys looking for at least partially blue miniatures, and check if they were good for my purposes on SG.

Ah, yeah, that makes sense. Also answers the question of how you had a link to Skyhill's older miniature on hand. ^_^'
(And also reminds me that I've had a puzzle concept in mind for 7 years but could never motivate myself to actually make it. :X )

Had no idea this is a feature. Thanks for revealing it and for the train!

Paraphrasing a certain video game character:
Even on SG, there are some features that aren't actually known to be there. Anyone can see them of course, but nobody takes note of their existence. Or at least they aren't talked about anywhere I could see. Here comes this thread, I suppose.
Oh well, here's a train. Check it out,and try to find out if you know why I called it a blue train.
And if you exited the train, or are an impatient cookie, here's an explanation. It's really quite simple.
From what I see, Steamgifts extracts a dominant color from game's miniature, and makes a nickname of giveaway's creator take that color on giveaway page.
And I made a train where giveaways are meant to give me a blue colour. Simple as thatWith 30
Do you know of other "hidden" features on SG? Care to share?
Afterthoughts
With 300+ entries in some of the giveaways, and just over 200 poll answers, I come to a sad conclusion, that even in discussions, there is about a third of people who either don't read the thread, or are too busy pressing "enter giveaway" button to press a thread poll "vote" button.
Also, despite the thread bringing attention to "finer details", surprisingly few people found hidden train carts. Very disappointing, but oh well, it's the risk associated with puzzle making. Congrats to those who made it though. :)
I'll keep the topic open for some more time.
