That sounds about right.
Steam=MySpace
but
Origin=Whatever Microsoft's attempt at a MySpace beater was.
Facebook=.. unfortunately it wouldn't surprise me if that ended up being Apple or Google.

Sadly I wouldn't agree with that. The general public doesn't really know any better. The real reason people don't use Origins I'd say is because they are lacking exclusives and the kind of deals that Steam has. Just my opinion though, I don't actually know this. :P

A more apt analogy would be Facebook (Steam) and Google+/LinkedIn (Origin). Or iPod & Zune.

when battlefield 3 was released i really wanted to buy it, but then some friends of mine warned me because of origin and that it might be spyware. since then i never thought about buying BF3 again. it might be a good game, but i completely lost my trust to EA, and i will buy as few EA games as possible. EA sucks and it's hilarious, that they think origin is a competitor to steam

The best strategy EA has right now, is to not say anything.

I started using origin recently & i'm happy with the service(their live support especially). I then realized just how big steam is & started to wonder why we should all confine our money to one service. I don't see anything wrong with the 2 competing with one another as WE will reap all the benefit.
I'd welcome more services also to step up and give us great games, promotions & sales. more the merrier.
BTW you really think steam cant see whats in our machines also?(spyware) not only is there an option to scan your machine here willingly but I've also come across a steam survey once in the client that demanded to scan everything.

The thing is that social networks and game clients are NOT being compared. Its merely an example of a statement that goes along the likes of, "people make better things by building on the innovation of others, and we are trying to be better than Steam by attempting so."
Don't read and interpret things in broad sense people.

To be honest, the only good things about Steam (Personally) are:
1.) Cheap Games - regular sales
2.) If you ever lose your CD/DVD copy of the game, or if the disk is damaged, you always have a place you can download it easily.
3.) Steamgifts...
I disliked DRM in general - now-a-days I will not touch a game published by EA as they focus too much on the anti-piracy aspect, rather then focusing on giving their players full content.
But that's my view
No DRM > All
Steam > All DRM's
...of course we can avoid all this BS by just not paying for games... Which is sad really because I know many that pirate WANT to support dev's, but they don't want to put up with the publisher crap. -_-

So recently i read on ign about Best Games Quotes of the Week - June 23
and saw this quote, and i was like, LOL
“If MySpace had stayed the one answer in social networking and no one switched to Facebook, then we’d all be stuck on MySpace right now. There are better mousetraps that ultimately get built out of this innovation and the only way you get to the innovation is to have other people try and do a better version. And that’s what we’re attempting to do on Origin.”
Is EA and Origin’s VP of global ecommerce David DeMartini comparing Steam to MySpace?
