I just experienced a rather worrying anomaly in steam.

I was using my browser and just browsing the store page, when I noticed that my avatar had changed. Worried that I got hacked, I checked my profile, and found out that I was logged in as another user (someone from South Africa who I had never heard of). Went back to the store page and found myself logged out, but the storepage was in Finnish. Tried to switch back to English and then it was suddenly in Russian. I've been logged in on the steam client as well, and nothing changed there. Same avatar, no messages about someone trying to log in on my account or anything like that.

Several of the Steam groups I'm in issued warnings just now (Games Collectors and 100% Achievements Group).

I have my language change about 6 times and seen atleast 5 other users their accounts.

The Steam Store page seems the most bugged page for the moment.

100% Achievements Group

Probably Gaben's way of telling us to start using the mobile authenticator app.

I gave Steam my phone number ang got the app. Apparently two way authenticating is good for shit! It doesn't prevent being hacked, great.

If you got some money in your Steam Wallet keep an eye in te Market page, you can see if it changes.

Oh man. I hope whoever can see my account isn't spending my wallet.

the money in my wallet isn't whats concerning me. it's the digits from my creditcard + my mobilephone and mailadress combined I'm really worried about. Someone with enough knowledge gets the job done with those data. Steam should step up when a problem like now happens and just kill servers worldwide and log everyone off till they fix it.

I have Steam Guard enabled, so those shouldn't be a problem.

Without the mobile code or the recovery code there is no way of doing that.

Yes, I got locked out of my account last month when my phone was stolen and I couldn't remember my recovery code. The only thing I could do was contact support about it.

Hmm... creepy... It's like I'm using somebody's account (without steam guard on). I think nobody is using my account with steam guard ON. I hope so... I did a lot of print screen of my game library (with my steam guard state), just in case...

Indeed. If there is just 0.01% chance someone did tinker with someone else's account, and the hurt party is in EU or US, Valve will have a bad day. A really bad day.

I'm not sure... What with steam guard? Somebody's account that I can see now is WITHOUT steam guard. Maybe we can see only steam guard OFF account.... I hope so...

:D thats what happens when their server is messing the requests to the IPs & IDs - lovely ... had it once in a pics forum posted stuff with someones account ... wouldn't be worried about steam too many steps to get anything done + backups that roll back the changes

It's not really about a random person selling your inventory. It is about the random person suddenly seeing all your personal data, including registered email address and (not full) credit card info.

As long as you did not touch anything,, it should not matter. Account switching seem to be entirely random

That might explain why I get the store page in a random language (often Portuguese, Spanish and Russian) whenever I refresh the page...
Well, they're not getting my money today I guess.

I bet your avatar also changes to someone else's... someone who's using steam in that language...

Actually it says I'm not logged in, and if I click the login button (or actually any link at all), it just refreshes the page - sometimes changing language again.
