My uncle had a stroke two years ago, a really bad one. Long story short, it affected half of his brain and therefore his body. He used to be a very intelligent man and possessed a lot of knowledge about many things, most of it seems to have been lost, though.

Another thing is that he loved video games.

He used to play a bit of what I play. Dragon Age, Mass Effect, strategy games like Age of Empires, FPS with good campaigns, Tomb Raider. But those are a bit too advanced for him to play at the moment.

Half of his body is paralyzed, along with his left arm/hand.

What I really need help with is...
I need suggestions for a SIMPLE game he could play. Even though he got A LOT better over the months, he is mentally debilitated at the moment. To give an example, only a few months ago he started using the buttons of the tv controller correctly. And still it's not easy...

TL;DR

What I am wondering IS...

What games do you think would be best for someone with only one hand available (his right hand), where half of his brain is still recovering?

Take note that reading might also be very hard for him, so I need simple, very simple games to start with.

All help would be appreciated.

Important edit:

I will be sending invites to a few people to enter my group.

I will giveaway Dishonored - Game of the Year Edition to you guys who helped, and might even create a few other group GAs along the way. Thanks!

Super hexagon the game is hard but it requires one hand I don't know if he can focus with all of what's going on around him but you know better other than that there is point to click games Telltale, Quantic dream + he can play Civ V too.

The games that come to mind for me first are point and click adventures, but I'm sure there are some more options. I'll try to think some more about it :)

I wanted to say "point-and-clickers" but it might be too hard for him now. May be (as someone suggested) some PopCap games?

Posted this today as a joke in another thread but ...

Minesweeper is a pretty good game ... can be played with one hand and stimulates the brain (can find versions of the game where you can make it more simple ie 5-6 mines)

Another thing you could do is search google for "simple pc games for children"

I think you may be able to find some android games as well that he can use on a tablet.

Really sorry for what happened to you uncle, hope that he will get better fast.

Portal sixense pack but you need special camera for it.
Whole anomaly series will be good. You use there only mouse so one handed person can play it :)
I dont have any other ideas.

You can play One Finger Death Punch with just one hand. I'm not sure if he's able to concentrate enough and react fast enough to play it, while he's mentally recovering, though.

I would have suggested "I Have No Mouth, And I Must Scream"! But I'm not sure if it's appropriate or not!

Your uncle has a good taste in games! Hope he recovers soon!

Hey again.

I can't remember if I suggested Triple Town. That's mostly a casual puzzler though, placing objects in a tile-like manner to combine sets of three together. There is also Divekick, which is a weird beat-em-up where each round is a 1-hit-KO. You have only two buttons, jump (dive) and attack (kick). You move forward by attacking in the air, move backwards by attacking on the ground, and end up playing the game as a kind of rock-paper-scissors mental warfare kind of beat-em-up. The characters have different jump/attack mechanics and angles, and everyone has two specials they can pull off. It's really weird but if he's in to fighters it's a great local game.

Triple Town! I'd second that. Great game to play on a mobile device.

Sorry to hear about your uncle; he sounds like a really neat dood.

  • Was going to say Solitaire, but someone has already recommended it. If that doesn't work, you could always try FreeCell.
  • Aside from that, maybe give mobile games a try? Like those apps/games that only require a single finger to play (such as Fruit Ninja, Tiny Wings, etc.)
  • Canabalt might be worth a try.
  • Or you could always try to play card games or board games with him.

There's 2048, it only uses the arrow keys and is binary addition which could maybe help his brain recover without too much strain.

Most puzzle or point-and-click games should be easy for him to control.
