Well, as somebody who started drawing because of my love of old Marvel comics this news is a kick in the nuts - 'nuff said.

+1
I couldn't draw to save my life but he was the reason I started writing. I literally learned how to read on Fantastic Four and X-men comic books in the 70ies.
Later I loved to read his columns as much as I loved reading his comics.
He was a mensch and a great soul.

'How to Draw Comics the Marvel Way' is a book I've studied at length and I'd consider it the greatest of its kind. The lessons in basic perspective, anatomy, etc are basically identical to dozens of similar books of its type but the boundless enthusiasm of the writing by Stan Lee make it seem utterly impossible to fail. And then the final final few chapters of full of examples by some of the greatest masters of the craft that fully illustrate the difference between doing things right and making them epic...

And then there are the Stan's Soapbox columns that I loved reading in my comics throughout my childhood;

I saw the book at a friend's. It looked great, way above my level but the text was real cool.
Thanks for these! I loved Stan's soapbox! Such a humorous and generous man.
Kevin Smith said he was a modern day Mark Twain and I feel he hit it right on the nose

Whether reading about how to draw comics or his soapbox pieces on civil rights he always struck me as somebody to whom right and wrong was very important. And not right and wrong as told to him from a preacher or read from a book - right and wrong as experienced from a long and interesting life.

Very true. And his passion for not only the strengths of humanity but also its flaws really informed what made Marvel what it is today.
He was not telling stories about heroes fighting off villains. He was writing stories about ordinary people in extraordinary situations, who were fighting their weaknesses as much as their foes.
He was a real life example of what a lot of us strive for.

Oh no! Stan the Man!
You leave a big Titan shaped hole in the Multiverse. We only had one real living superhero and he is no more.

the first Stan Lee comics I ever read were beat-up copies of Sgt Fury and His Howling Commandos (Ish 135, 136, and 137), followed by an even more ragged copy of The Origin of the Silver Surfer. I really enjoyed them, and have since read what little I could get my hands on of his work.
He is missed.

RIP Stanley Martin Lieber!

Although 95 years old is a wonderful age than many can't even dream to reach, it's still a very important loss for the comics world. Unfortunately everyone has to go at some point and what matters is the mark one makes during their life and Stan Lee certainly was a very important person that left a worldwide mark recognized by everyone.

I never knew until now that his parents emigrated from my country which makes me proud of the genetic material this country had to offer over the course of history.

Again, RIP Stan Lee and thank you for your wonderful personality and your contributions that helped create so many loved characters that everyone in the world knows and cares for.

Comic books weren't all that big where I grew up, but Stan Lee always seemed like the kind of guy who had an endless passion for what he did. Really admirable.
