Just yesterday as I was trying to play Tomb Raider again, I had my worst case of motion sickness yet. In general, I get it about half of the time when I play that game, if not more often. It started quite recently, this year. Maybe because of the new games I've been playing, which look more real, but still fake enough to confuse the brain. Especially Tomb Raider has a lot of camera wobble and motion blur going on. Also, there are things like FOV and refresh rate to consider.
Other games guilty of that include Portal 2 and Fallout New Vegas.
I'm wondering, how common is it though. So vote away. Sorry for no Potato, But I realized that loving potatoes and having (or not having) motion sickness are not mutually exclusive.
Which games have made you ill? And is there anything special you have done about it? I'm considering buying travel-pills, not sure if they work, but they may.
Have a game that shouldn't make you sick, unless you're allergic to strategy.

Have you experienced sickness from games?

View Results
Yes, it's a problem.
No, never.
Only once-twice, not really an issue.

I have only gotten motion sickness a few times when I have played games. The one I remember most recently was from, of all games, Freedom Planet. Most of that game is absolutely no problem for me. But there is this giant laser in one level that leaves some after-tremors. For whatever reason, those tremors screw with my brain the wrong way, and I feel sickened at seeing them. I can't even imagine many people having a problem with it, so it's very strange to me.

I guess I'm lucky and never felt ill from a videogame. And I used to get really sick in a bus.

I get motion sickness from A LOT of games, the only ones I don't seem to suffer in are RTS/MOBA and weirdly enough, CSS.

I don't have any motion sickness probs. But lately I've noticed a higher feeling of unease if the fov is at about 60, i.e console crap.
Made me stop playing RE4 which was free on xbox live once. It just feels too claustrophobic.
Maybe I'm getting old :(

yeah the shakey cam in TR2013 was really bad, i was able to finish the game in short sessions and am glad, it was totally worth it. i think Rise isnt that bad, fortunately. i heard using triple buffered vsync helps, though i doubt.

some fov in games like life is strange/Metro makes me sick too, although most FPS games do haha.

For me, this started around a year ago when I first played minecraft, then it spread to almost every other 3D games. I don't know why, but I think it's somehow related to my old pc can't handle the graphics of those new games, which usually can only run them at 20fps.

I sometimes have motion sickness in games which require you to drive in first person (that could be based mostly on psychological fears, rather than actual motion sickness effect, because I have once managed to get "car sick" even in a pixel graphics game). Usually, in other type of games, I can edit settings (movement speed, FOV, motion blur, etc) enough to prevent it from arising.

For most games, I have to turn off a bunch of settings in games to get rid of the motion sickness.

Stuff like motion blur, Film Grain, Bloom, Death of Field I turn off.

FOV I turn it to 120. There are a few games that try to change your FOV when you start running, if you can make the FOV while walking and sprinting the game, it will help ease motion sickness.

Other stuff to turn off if you can is weapon bob and head bob. Sometimes you have to go into the ini files to edit these out as there is no where in the settings to do that.

Resident Evil games (especially RE2) and Call of Duty games (not even trolling). I can't watch people play them because I get intense migraines after about 20 minutes. I think it has something to do with the movement of the characters and not being in actual control of them (and thus not being able to anticipate their actions).

I've never had an issues with motion sickness, but for some weird reason Metro 2033 Redux and The Talos Principle, hurt my eyes and cause headaches.

Half-life 2 is terrible for me. I never got motion sickness with third person games. Never happened with unreal tournament for me back in the day. Also No one Lives Forever (?) was probably the worst ever. Dianatrix is that the original tomb raider or the 2013 version?

That one wasn't too bad for me. I think with third person I can look at the person on the screen, so it helps. My wife 's worse than me, and she had to play Skyrim and Fallout third person.

I've tried FO4, it weirdly enough wasn't that bad, but maybe it's because I had everything turned off for performance. Also, I was switching between 1st and 3rd all the time anyway. I liked the view of 3rd so I used it outdoors, but indoors 1st because easier to pick up stuff.

I get motion sickness in real life, too, but almost always if I am in a car with someone else driving. Racing games, however, don't cause it.
First person shooters are the biggest culprit, and for some I fix it by changing the FOV or sitting further back from my monitor (there's about 12 inches of space behind my monitor to slide it back).
Games with extreme motion blur and depth-of-field give me issues as well, so I usually turn those features off in games. :X

I've had this problem going back to my early console days. Medal Of Honor: Frontline & Rising Sun on Xbox. Absolutely loved the games but it took me forever to complete them because I could only play them in small, 1/2 hour doses. Any longer than that I would have to go lie down for 4 hours with the room spinning. Awful feeling. Third person games don't seem to bother me.

I get motionsick quite often, the latest game I can remember is Creativerse, making me nauseous after 30 minutes and well Talos principle as well. The ship is also one of those games :D

I've learned to deal with it and stop when needed, usually high fps and high fov help :D
