Just yesterday as I was trying to play Tomb Raider again, I had my worst case of motion sickness yet. In general, I get it about half of the time when I play that game, if not more often. It started quite recently, this year. Maybe because of the new games I've been playing, which look more real, but still fake enough to confuse the brain. Especially Tomb Raider has a lot of camera wobble and motion blur going on. Also, there are things like FOV and refresh rate to consider.
Other games guilty of that include Portal 2 and Fallout New Vegas.
I'm wondering, how common is it though. So vote away. Sorry for no Potato, But I realized that loving potatoes and having (or not having) motion sickness are not mutually exclusive.
Which games have made you ill? And is there anything special you have done about it? I'm considering buying travel-pills, not sure if they work, but they may.
Have a game that shouldn't make you sick, unless you're allergic to strategy.

Have you experienced sickness from games?

Yes, it's a problem.
No, never.
Only once-twice, not really an issue.

My worst case was Half Life 2, though probably because I didn't stop in time, since I didn't really get that it was from the game. Now that I understand what it is, FOV sliding usually helps once I find the right setting.
Tomb Raider (2013) interestingly enough gave me major motion sickness in the intro, where you are on the cliff, but after that the game was pretty much fine for me. No idea why, maybe the cliff scene had some weird camera motions or special FOV or something.

My girlfriend is very susceptible to motion sickness, specially while playing first-person games.
Personally, I only feel a slight discomfort on low or unstable frames-per-second. Also, playing with FOV can turn uncomfortable some times, but not to the extent of feeling sick.
If I remember correctly, my first approach to a 3D game (Super Mario 64) caused me the worst discomfort. =)

I had that when I was playing Skyrim at the tutorial part when at one point I got stuck on a rock and it just kept jumping up and down. And for some reason that made me feeling very sick. I get that a lot of times especially when the camera is wobbly too, I just feel really sick and dizzy. I would go and lie down for about 15mins to 30mins then I'll be fine afterwards.

I get that when I am in car on a long trip but never had initially playing video game- thank God, I'd rather take a pill when driving somewhere than playing a game :)

I got so much motion sickness from far cry 3. I spent 2 hours messing with the graphics until I got it just right.

Does this relate to the refresh rate of your monitor? I just bought a 144Hz one, heard it's good for eye tiredness.

Serious Sam BFE - can't finish this game because i start to feel bad after 30-60 minutes of playing. Frame-rate is changing wildly and everything is blurred when i turn around. Tried different settings but I just can't find way to fix it.

Beside that I never had any game-related problems. Except maybe chronical lack of sleep xD

I have quite often motion sickness problems, though the first time I noticed it was four years ago while playing Sonic Generations. The most violent recent incident was with Mind: Path to Thalamus. I really wanted to play that game but I barely lasted 25 minutes. The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Mirror's Edge and Half-Life 2 are other games I abandoned due to motion sickness.

I've noticed that I have this issue with first-person games that mostly don't have a steady point of focus on the screen. I have not any problems with FPS in general (when I have tha gun in front of my eyes) nor with racing games while I have in real life many problems with motion sickness when I travel. I had never problems with third-person games (like Tomb Raider btw). Increasing FOV settings help a bit but in games I get motion sickness it simply slows it without fixing it...

Every FPS. But lately it's even worse cause I can't play Bastion longer than 15minutes because of screen shake that occurs sometimes. A 'feature'. But I'm fine playing isometric 2d's in general. Suprisingly I could play Assasins Creed all I wanted. The same goes for the first Witcher. For the second I had to install a patch increasing FOV and it's better ;3

And '15min' is the magic number.

Medal of Honor in ps1 is the first game that gave me motion sickness, its really bad it makes me hate fps game. But that was in the past and not these day, i enjoy playing borderlands, fallout 3, team fortress 2 etc. I still got motion sickness sometimes but mainly because i am already too tired in the first place to play games.

I discovered I had this issue back in the 90s with Wolfenstein 3D, after 20 minutes I threw up.

but even now, with most recent 3D FPS I start having sickness, especially the Source engine (Half life, Portal), their FPS engine makes me sick immediately.

I feel sick when I play FPS so I never play them.
Dont use full screen and some games allow to set FOV to 120+ will help.

I have an issue with fast moving images.
For example "switchcars" that was given away by humble in it's last bundle. I have an issue keep up with the moving screen.
It's never a smooth experience but more something in terms off a fast slideshow of pictures.

I get motion sickness when I am sitting in the back of a car.

Experienced it with a few games, but I'm more used to it after playing more often. If I overeat and play a game which rather induces motion sickness, high chance it happens.

Occasionally I'll play a game, like borderlands, that make my eyes feel funny for the first few hours, where my brain struggles to judge depth properly with all the minimalistic cell shading. Console FOVs and Motion blur give me a headache, but I've never had motion sickness.

i had it with the old Doom, and Doom 2 and Herotic... it was because of the aspect ratio and fov those games had, havent had it since.

Can't stand motion blur on 30+ fps and low fov (<90).
Also huge guns. Don't like it. I prefer to have my guns as further away from my eyes as possible.
So, yeah, l4d2 and borderlands are horrible. They have low fov, forced motion blur and big guns.
Quake 3 ftw.

Feeling the same way on a few games, like Shadow Warrior, Hard Reset, Hell Yeah and a few more.

First thing I do is to disable motion blur, it really helps, also increase fov, look pcgamingwiki for FOV fixes if the game doesn't support it. Also make sure vsync is off and the frame rate is as stable as possible.
