Epic sale FAQ

They want to give you 10$ to spend in store for 2-factor authentication

"The panel read that “the Epic Games store Megasale is happening right now! Sign up for [two-factor authentication] in order to get $10 to spend in the store.” Clearly, the sale was not actually underway when the message arrived on the store, but Epic later confirmed that an event was on its way, with a tweet from the official Fortnite Twitter account."

Hold your horses, not yet but here is explained

edit. here are some games below 10$ if you're curious - all thanks to Fragie
Shakedown Hawaii $9.99
Oxygen Not Included $7.99
Hades $9.99
The Walking Dead: Final Season $6.99
Trover Saves the Universe $9.99
Observation $9.99

Flower $3.99
Gorogoa $6.99
Donut County $5.99
Little Inferno $5.99

Different regional pricing it seems, it costs me $15

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, it's gonna matter because all that is advertised is that it is a $10 credit I may presume to be USD. Regional pricing of the games are gonna affect what you can or cannot buy if you have only $10. The list would be much different and shouldn't be publicized unless the pricing lists the region for clarification.

I agree, still think it's nice to have a relative list rather than no list and we dont have something like steamdb for epic games store that I know of.

Currency signs matter because of the exchange rate, which vary with localization. Your €9.99 game may be $14.99 somewhere else. And basically because of the way the promotion is set up and stated, it applies to games worth >$14.99 at this point; I don't know if this is subjective per exchange rate, or you get <€10 to begin with because of how much you save on the discount, which is a possible situation.

Is 2FA new? I've been signing in with my google so I may have overlooked it and the account is pretty new, since they start giving out games. Hahaha. I hasn't downloaded the launcher but due to I have to redeem Metro Exodus on the store because of my new PC purchase, I might use it in future. Therefore, probably will 2FA it when this promotion actually starts. I won't be adding any $ than what is given though. Neither am I shifting from playing on Steam at the moment due to backlog. Same reasons for GOG.

I am thinking of trying out Metro Exodus though due to RTX but I haven't played the previous titles before.

I absolutely adored Subnautica which I got for free from them. I've never played Fortnite, and don't expect to. I'm quite happy to take their $10 and get something with it.

The supposed spying has been explained to my satisfaction.

As for the "anti-consumer" practises, if that's how people wanna interpret it, that's up to them.

I'm tired of the foam-at-the-mouth Steam fanbois ranting about Epic. Don't like it? Don't use it. Grant me the same self-determination.

I used it in the past for UE/UT
You know that they said 1month before they wont even add features like that and after their Spying gets exposed we wanted to add those features :D
they have big security holes anyway
And anti consumer practices
and epic games dont include the VAT in their price you gotta pay that on top .(if they still use the same practice like before)
it downloads Fortnite automatically if you have automatic updates for the client active .
and Btw their regional pricing is weird could possible that there is no game to buy for ya
I mean they bought the software that did the linux support for Steam and dropped it .
And now after Epic games arrived in China there might be the chance that they gonna censor games .
sooo have fun with the credit hope you can make good use out of it for me i rather pay on steam full price than to support any of this practices ^-^

I had kinda thought that my statement implied I wasn't particularly interested in this discussion, but OK here we go. Again.

You know that they said 1month before they wont even add features like that and after their Spying gets exposed we wanted to add those features :D

What features?

they have big security holes anyway

What security holes? 12 year old Fortnite players who reuse passwords getting their accounts jacked because the email and password that was stolen from Bebo also worked on Fortnite? That's hardly Epic's fauly. Anyway, Windows has new security holes found every week, and everyone still uses it. Steam hasn't got a good record on this either btw. https://www.ibtimes.com/steam-password-hack-let-gamers-steal-each-others-accounts-week-video-2025633
Epic are starting from scratch, they'll improve.

And anti consumer practices

I've heard it all before. Believe whatever you will, but know this: What you may consider anti-consumer in the short term (and I presume you mean exclusives) is only fighting to build themselves market share. Zero competition is the worst anti-consumer situation there is. Steam have been left to own the market for a decade and as a result we have a shitty client, changes nobody asks for, more bloatware every month, and for that they take an unreasonable cut of the sale price. Competition is SORELY needed in this space, from the likes of Epic, GOG, Discord etc, as well as companies selling their own games like Origin and Blizzard.

it downloads Fortnite automatically if you have automatic updates for the client active .

Nope. I have automatic updates enabled and several games installed and no Fortnite. Where are you getting that from? Something it used to do when Fortnite was the only game on the launcher? Or just repeating bile from reddit somewhere?

and Btw their regional pricing is weird could possible that there is no game to buy for ya

Nope. I can see their store and there are a couple of dozen games to buy right now and more in the "upcoming" section.

I mean they bought the software that did the linux support for Steam and dropped it .

Never heard of it. Don't use Linux myself so no concern of mine. Maybe if Steam wanted Linux support they should have bought it themselves? Maybe Epic wants to get Linux support working so bought it so they could put the coders onto that project instead?

And now after Epic games arrived in China there might be the chance that they gonna censor games .

So now we're just speculating? Well in that case Steam may start abducting children from third world countries to maintain their server farms.

So this is the point where you label me an Epic shill and ignore everything I say.

I think the discount is valid on any game from $14.99 and not limited to one purchase!
But.....have no more money to spend myself.

Heh. in Poland they reduced price lower then 60 PLN (which is required to get 40 pln discount). It means it costs over 14$... I considered buying final season but now i will not buy.

Also considered John Wick but this minimal requirements for this game are... insane (at last when i look on game). Windows 10 (I have 7), 16GB ram... ;).

Also you can not add value of more then one game (I guess?)

Only Heavy Rain looks a little tempting for me, but for now i will pass this promotion.

I was chatting with a Polish friend of mine and he was hugely disappointed too!
We were both hoping to get TWD final at a nice price, and I was in luck!

But.....because of the lowered base prices in Poland, The Walking Dead doesn't meet the criteria for the discount!
I paid €4.99 for the game and in PLN (he said) the game costs €11
he didn't buy either!

Funny enough he was also tempted by Heavy Rain

And: nope, you can only buy one game at the time (as far as I can see)

let's hope they get more promotions and that those are better for Poland!

$10 off just became $10 off anything priced over $14.99. No mention of 2FA, and seems to not be limited to a single use.

In US, Walking Dead seasons are $4.99 each, even for final season. Seems Epic might finally get some money from me.

I reported to Sergey that there are some deals clearly disfavoring some regions in comparison to others, with this Epic discount.
He explained that they had to limit it to 14.99 because of some anti-fraud regulation.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

It seems Epic is in dialogue with publisher to reduce the discounts they are giving, if the publisher's discount prevents customers from qualifying for the 10€ Epic discount.
If this problem applies to a game you want, you might want to check back later. It might be a lot cheaper then.

Yea, this is completely different from the whole '2 factor' thing that was reported before.
Honestly there should probably be a new thread made for the sale since most people that have seen this thread previously wont come in again to see that the $10 off this has changed into a regular sale (one where Epic eats the discount instead of devs).

Thats equal to a 66% off sale at the very best. As a matter of fact i can barely spot 75% off discounts in their store.

Looking at some comments its sweet to see people who otherwise smirk at -80% Steam sales finally get tempted by -25-50% Epic Launcher discounts.. :D

No you get flat discounts and no 2fa auth is required. So basically you get no free games, just some meh discounts, but now its all magical and wonderous cause Epic is doing it. :P

WITNESS the fall of Steam, for even the 20% discounts look better at Epic and everyone is amazed.

From their FAQ:

What if I bought a game just before the Epic Mega Sale?
For all game purchases between May 2nd, 2019 and May 15th, 2019 we will refund you the difference in price between what you paid and what you would have paid during the Epic Mega Sale (inclusive of the $10 off from Epic). You will receive your refund automatically to the payment method you used in the next 7-12 days

Yes. But the discound is already shown in the store. So if you see a pricetag of 9,90€ on heavy rain for example, it's also with the 10€ discount.

Overall my prices (germany) where
Heavy Rain 9,90€ (Normal: 19,90)
Beyond Two Souls 9,90€ (Normal: 19,90)
Observation 8,89 (normal 20,99 but on sale for 18,89 - 10€ discount. On Humble it's €20,24 with 19% discount, €24,99 without discount)
