I'm sorta glad he died... he was in a lot of pain and suffering for at least a year now going in and out of hospitals all the time... at least now he can be at peace.

Rest in peace, Mr Mandela! You may have gone, but the ideals which you fought for will live on!!!

A murderer, terrorist, genocidal leader of the ANC. Both sides of this conflict suffered, the Afrikaners had fault as well.. but don't paint him as a saint. There's both sides to the story. Thru history I will always remember my roots.. White Namibia, Rhodesia, Portuguese Angola, South Africa. It's really true in the end, the victors do write history. Lank lewe die Boere!

A terrorist who through propaganda convinced idiots (a lot from this thread) that he was a great man. Who is next for the world to mourn the loss of ? Kim Jong-Un ?

I'm a 24 year old white male from South Africa. I've lived here all my life. My family's been here for four or five generations.
All I'll say about our history is this: Mandela was a great man, who stepped up and fought a brutal regime with fire. He did what needed to be done after the pacifist years in the 50s and 60s failed and he (through Mkhonto we Sizwe) did it without resorting to the tactics Poko or Inkatha used.
I'll also make mention of the conscription camps white males were forced to go to. Most of them did a year somewhere at a desk then headed off into a country that gave them everything. My father did ten years fighting in a border skirmish that he still, to this day does not understand what it was about. My grandfather was murdered in a prison in Windhoek because of his son's army connections. The era was not as kind as to my family as it was to others.
The most important thing Madiba gave us wasn't a new government or some divided opinions on terrorism: it was these words, his motivation to start MK - "When we can look at a black man, a white man and see how we can share and learn rather than racial prejudices, then we have won."
And that's why I'm so grateful of Tata. He gave me a country where I can speak to people of a different race, a different religion, a different upbringing and we can share a laugh and a story, even though we come from such vastly different backgrounds. I've seen it all my life, and can appreciate it more and more each day: I can hop in a minicab in a collared shirt and share some chirps with the gaadjie, I've won a pantsula dance off in the middle of the Transkei, played a game of soccer in rural Etsha 13, cricket on the beach with some local Cape Coloured kids, chat to the petrol attendant about jujitsu...we're all different here, and Mandela gave us the chance to celebrate it.
I just wish more people would embrace this...I wish more people would see how great and diverse this country is. Sadly, it's fallen into greed and political motivations and this nation's father's passing is mired in controversy.
I've lived here all my life, studied here for the past 6 years...I've watched the sunrise from the top of those stairs come over this great city, this great country with people from everywhere in the world and shared the opinion that everyone I saw was equal because Madiba made it so I was no longer been taught otherwise.
Thank you Tata, even though your body is gone, I'll keep your spirit alive along with countless other South Africans.
