It's a legacy that I (among some of the other thread makers) kept from Rachellove (her contribution to the Deals forum was substantial; she was the one who started to organize bundle info into charts and she was the reason for which all those bundle thread - related tools have been developed). She used the normal red heart for her threads, I changed to the purple version because it's my favorite color.
Basically, it's just a quick way to distinguish the bundle threads from other deals.
