Right.

I don't think so.

Depending on from where Valve ships the prototypes, you may have to pay at least VAT. That's the case at least if Valve ships them from the US to any EU country. I'm not very keen on paying 24% VAT (over 300€ for the build with Titan and i7), so I'm glad I didn't sign up for the beta.

I don't know if you've seen the hardware on those machines they're sending out, but if you're worried on paying some taxes to receive a 2000€ machine, more for the rest of us.

I've got a new PC two months ago. I don't need any new hardware. Especially hardware that I'd have to return anyway.

Doubt I will be selected, but if I am.. I will be happy :P Even if I have to pony up some cash due to taxes. I doubt it will be much of a cost in all truth. Been in several betas for games in the past, however if I manage to be one of the lucky ones for this, it will be the first time participating in a beta for a device.

Now I did get to play on a PS1 before they where officially released due to the place my brother worked at gave him the system for testing and trying out the games so he would be better suited to talk to customers about it,ect, ect but that was not really a beta test so :P

It makes sense to have taxes put under us though. Valve's probably just making sure that the product will be given feedback on the correct way and that some random didn't just do it for the badge.

I wouldnt have a problem if I had to pay 20%... thats nothing for a new PC - steambox. I wish they'd put that notice in big red letters so more people would drop out of the beta :P
