Hi SG

I just got a message from Steam saying a key that i activated has been revoked (can be seen here http://i.imgur.com/yDpjTmv.png)

The key was originally from a bundle that i brought on IndieGala the 25. December during their christmas sale on their bundles (i brought all their bundles and activated them that day http://i.imgur.com/f0dYdy1.png)

Have anyone else that have experienced this?

Edit: it was from the Mixcellaneous Bundle

I wonder if the dev or steam deactivator person made a bad SQL join or clicked the wrong checkbox or something, accidentally killed the used keys instead of unused keys...

It wouldn't surprise me if Steam support screwed up.

My impression is that dev/pub sends list of keys to be revoked. They wouldn't know what was used without input anyway (assuming they mean used as in sold to customer, not necessarily activated)

Would be pretty bad to disable sold keys.

The Developer already posted a message in the Discussions thread at Steam. The mistake was on Valve's end, and they are working on getting the Indigala and DIG keys restored as quickly as possible.

As long as whoever originally purchased the game got it from Indiegala or DIG, then it should be restored. If it was a key that was bought from a grey market place, then it will more thank likely be gone for good.

we don't know - it may go both ways - unrevoking keys done by Valve or dev requesting new batch of keys and sending then to DIG and IG and they giving them back to buyers. In second case it will be new keys and you won't get your game back. Sorry but that's the risk you decided to take yourself by buying game from grey market.

Second case is used more often because it's easier. When OAuth still worked, sites could assign games/keys on your account automatically, but there is a reason why firstly IG, then HB stopped using that method.

I do know ;) It's simply easier - instead of going to Valve, waiting for them to unrevoike listed keys etc, it will have to be reviewed by employer and done the same - it all takes time - instead you simply send out new batch of keys in much shorter time and with less work involved ;)

So like I said - in 2nd case OP is out of luck, risk of using grey market.

I always wondered why, do you know the reason?

IMHO Valve decided that they didn't want to give publishers rights to modify steam accounts. That's why even revokes need to be accepted by Valve and can't be done by publishers (only).

That's my pure theory only though.

Publishers do have keyless API method to add packages to accounts, so that's not the reason.

From what I heard, person working on Oauth system no longer works at Valve, so that's why most users were kicked off. For example, Paradox & Nvidia still have access. Who knows what Valve is thinking thought.

We apologize for this issue. It results from a miscommunication with our contact at Valve. All keys were not supposed to be revoked, just extra keys that were not previously distributed in bundles. As some of you may know, there is a big issue with 3rd party sites selling Steam keys. It is causing lots of issues and was one of the major topics of conversation at GDC this year. We were simply trying to ensure that extra keys were not going to make their way to these third party sites. We are working with Steam to correct the mistake and will ensure that folks who purchased the key via Indie Gala or DIG will have their game restored.

Very smooth move from volvo especially for those who made GA on sg, they will have not received marks because of that…

well - winners who are not duchebags will unmark instead of marking as not received, contact GA creator and wait for new keys. But yeah - guess we'll gonna have loads of drama, false-positives not-received and not-activated and people making shoitstorm on forums creqating topics without doing a simple forum search before :/

Can you unmark it? Last time I checked after picking an option (received or not) and after that you could only change it, not remove

then check again ;p You simply click on Received and it gets unmarked. Just checked it on GA that ended over 3 years ago.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

not atm ;) Groupees I believe was a screw up either on groupees or Volvo part - doesn't matter as it's probably gonna get fixed with new keys issued. AXYOS is obvious trying to fight grey martket wrong way and hurting fair customersin the process. Nothing else atm, but I think after all exposure and detailed talks GDC featured over grey market we may see some dtupid devs trying to pull their stupid ideas in close time. I mean it's 2 days since the whole GDC Grey Market drama and already 2 different games having crew ups with revokes trying to fight grey market.
