If you have Netflix, and it's still on, watch The IT Crowd.

Show is just SO hilarious! If you don't know about it, then try this.

"short" might be somewhat open to interpretation...e.g. are you measuring short in terms of seasons, episode length, how fast one can binge it, etc? Also not sure how new if needs to be. Then again, if you ask 10 people what's "good" and you'll probably get 10 different answer too... so I'll give it a shot.

Not a new show but if you haven't seen The Expanse yet, it's probably the best sci-fi tv show I've ever seen. I've heard it described as the Sci-Fi equivalent of Game of Thrones; that's not far off, if you mention that it has less gore and sex. Definitely has a nice complex weave of plot and character development akin to GoT (one/both? of the main authors/screenwriters has worked with GRR Martin so not too big of a surprise). However, it is not short except in the sense of when you power thrrough and binge watch everything and are like "there's no more (yet)?" and have to wait on the trickle of new episodes :-( ... is on amazon prime.

As for stuff that actually came out this year, I'm afraid I have mostly fallen back to games/audiobooks/anime so can't really recommend any new tv shows. Last "new" thing I watched was The Boys... was ok but felt like the writing especially in the 2nd season wasn't particularly great. But the show was relatively short and at least somewhat entertaining. I've also heard Raised by Wolves (released 2020) is supposed to be good but I haven't gotten to it yet myself; is on HBO (and probably also on other less reputable "channels" online)

For anime, I've been enjoying Akudama Drive and Sorcery Fight (Jujutsu Kaisen) but both are a bit gorey if that is a turn-off. For audiobooks, I started Terry Mancour's Spellmonger series back in Oct/Nov and have been greedily gobbling up the series like an addict eating crack-cakes after a 3-day fast. Highly highly addictive if you are into good fantasy with an excellent narrator (John Lee).. first book or two while still very good have a bit of sexual content.. but if you stick it out that gets toned down quite a bit and focus is very heavily on world building, character development, and story.

The Expanse is a great sci-fi show. I still have not started Season 5, wait for a eposide a week is too painful for me. Another classic sci-fi/space TV show is Battlestar Galactica (2003-2009), which is also on Amazon Prime.
I agree with The Boys. The second seaon is not as good as the first sesaon. The suprise mainly comes from the last eposide, truly mind blowing (¬‿¬)
Raised by Wolves is okay. The first two eposides are better than the rest.

Same. All these streaming services have gotten me conditioned to binging everything at once. Amazon's new experiment is just Pavlovian cruelty lol.

It is, although the planet is a bit forlorn. Second season already announced and thus not that short though.

Depends on what you like ofc. Unbelievable and the reboot of Perry Mason both terrific crime dramas. The Haunting of Bly Manor very good mystery/horror (and way better than the first one imo). I Am Not Okay With This is an interesting coming of age while coping with superpowers story. I'm just assuming you are looking for recent shows.

The original black and white Perry Mason is pretty good too.

I'm really enjoying Cobra Kai right now even though I was never really a huge Karate Kid fan. Episodes are short and it's a very easy and enjoyable watch. Only 2 seasons with a third coming next month.

Staged - it's a really short mini-series where David Tennant and Michael Sheen (who proved to be a good comedic duo in Good Omens, which I also recommend along with fellow stemgifters above) who play as themselves, trying to rehearse a play during pandemic. So it's about all of this nastiness around without making fun of people, or governments, or situation, but themselves. Nice way to spend an evening! ^_^

It was cancelled? Good, I tried to watch it to see if it gets better but it's so bad...when there was already a much better version.
I loved the pacing and suspense in the UK Utopia, as well as the characters....the only character I thought was ok in the Amazon version was Grant. (The art was good though)

Roadkill - really good, and only 4 episodes.
The Mandalorian - 16 episodes total, but most are only around 30 minutes.
Firefly - I'm guessing you've already seen it, but it's fantastic and always good for a rewatch.

Black Mirror is also a really good watch (if you have Netflix)
It's basically short stories surrounding technology, and something almost always goes or has gone horribly wrong

Usually all my fave series are long. But this year I found some good short series :

  • The Queen's gambit, obviously
  • Sherlock
  • Start-Up (Korean)
  • Welcome to Waikiki (Korean)

As an Asian I only watch 1 korean series before 2020, but I found those 2 are good.
