So, I've won a GA and wanted to say thank you but I can't because "You do not have permission to view this giveaway, since you've been blacklisted by the giveaway creator."
And I was like, WUT?
It's not even an hour since the GA ended, so (I guess) it's not because of a late reply.

So, whoever created the GA for Contagion that ended less than an hour ago, thank you for the GA, but no thanks for the blacklist.

Did it already happen to you?

Have you ever been blacklisted by the creator of a GA that you've won?

Yes.
No.
Potatoes don't care.

Chances are, the guy blacklisted you so other people had a better chance of winning. No hard feelings were involved.

For future GA, you mean?
Yeah, that's possible.
A little rude, but whatever.

You didn't respect his wishes about who enters his GA. And then you create a thread to whine because he blacklisted for failing to read his rules. And now you are calling him rude?

He isn't the only one who's going to blacklist you.

I didn't know why I was blacklisted, I was surprised.
I wanted to say "thank you" and found myself locked out of the door.
With an explanation, I can understand and apologize.
Without it, I was clueless.

And I'm not whining. The creator could have not sent the serial and asked for a reroll, but didn't.
I was just wondering why. It's probably related to the ratio, but a sgtools GA would have prevented it in the first place.

Comment has been collapsed.

No, he could not have asked for reroll because custom rules don't get enforced by support.
He could have only rerolled if he explained the situation to you and you agreed to rerolling but he was probably annoyed that you either didn't read the description or didn't care and didn't want to bother explaining and then being at your whim.

That would have been less "rude", if I can reuse the word :)
I'm open to discussion. We're all (?) adults here.

Try to see it from the other persons perspective... Not reading description (or not caring about it) doesn't exactly make you more trustworthy. Would you like to ask somebody who just demonstrated he's not 100% trustworthy to turn down a free game ?

Simple reading would have worked too.

It is clearly posted in the giveaway. Keep mindlessly entering giveaways and not taking 2 seconds to read what the poster is asking and you'll keep finding more and more blacklists.

But instead of you using common courtesy and reading what the creator took time to write, please whine that they should have done more to stop you from entering. How dare anyone expect you to read 2 sentences in order to win something they spent money on. This is an outrage.

And calling the creator rude was uncalled for. Thats what got you on mine.

Again, I'm not complaining. I was asking why. Now, I know. End of the issue.
Maybe using written words instead of face to face discussion left this with this feeling, but I am NOT complaining or whining or anything of the sort.
As I said, I wanted to thank the creator. Not doing it IS indeed rude, and too common :(

Not respecting the creators wishes is rude.

Calling someone rude on a public forum is rude.

Blacklisting someone for not taking 11 seconds to read a giveaway description OR for reading it and not caring that they asked you not to enter is not rude.

Check the dates. The giveaway was created 6 days ago. The OP here hasn't sent any games in that period so his Sent is the same as then. However he also won 4 games in the past 4 days bringing him over the limit for that GA. If he entered 6 days ago he did indeed fulfill them at the time. After that it's just a matter of forgetting about it and not withdrawing. And c'mon, most of us would have forgotten!

Edit: ninja'd ;-;

You entered the giveaway 20 hours ago, when your ratio already didn't meet the requirements. Either you didn't read the description or you ignored it. Either behavior is considered rude by most. If you act rudely towards someone, it's not really fair to complain they aren't polite to you in return, is it?

I was so used to my ratio that I didn't check.
My bad, I publicly admit it. I was wrong and deserved what happened.
I should have checked once more.

You don't match their criteria anymore. You must have a 1:2 ratio, and you are under that. Just checked for you.

If you win no more GA's, your sent must be 585.6 or higher.

not as i can recall, but people blacklist for different reasons.
Some blacklist people who win from them just to prevent them from winning other games from them..
Personally i blacklist winners when i feel there ratio makes them a leacher.... so i grant them the first 1. but if they have a leaching ratio, i blacklist them from blocking them from winning from me again..

There is a portion of people that blacklist all their winners in a notion of "you won something from me already, now it's someone else's turn". I don't think I happened upon one of those, maybe I should go back and check if someone started to do it retroactively :P

Permalink

probably this. I can kind of understand the logic behind it, but it'd still be more considerate for them to wait long enough for the winner to have a chance to say thanks and if they let them know that they are being blacklisted and why (I'd imagine it would also reduces the chances that the winner then blacklists them back)

From the giveaway description :

Please only enter if you meet the following giveaway to won ratio requirements:

  1. Under $1000 = 2 times (example - so you would need to have won $450 and given away $900)
  2. Over $1000 = 1.5 times (example - so you would need to have won $700 and given away $1050)

I thought setting your own rules in the giveaway was against the rules though? Using puzzles or sgtools to do it gets around that rule, but just doing it as part of the description used to be forbidden, right?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You will not be granted a reroll if someone breaks your personal rules. However, you are free to blacklist anyone for any reason you find suitable.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

"Forbidden" might not be a proper word. You can set any rules, but you won't get a reroll if a person enters without following them. You can though, remove from whitelist, blacklist, unfriend, kick from group and stare at them in an evil manner.

You can set all the rules you want if you're using Blacklist for the "cheaters", it's just that support will not grant you a reroll request or anything like that. From an administrative PoV there might as well not be any rules

Got it, thanks. Basically, as in this case, the gift has to be delivered, but the punishment is a blacklisting, not the non-delivery of the gift. Makes sense, and reduces support load.

Okay, so maybe it seems a bit harsh on the surface but I requested entry to the giveaway only when someone meets the won/give away ratio.
If someone no longer meets that ratio and doesn't enter whitelisted giveaways I won't blacklist them, but if they do I will. You can't re-roll on ratio requests etc. I apologise if this seems rude, I've just had bad experiences of requesting a re-roll from people who have won giveaways.

No hard feeling. I understand now why you blacklisted me and it's natural since I didn't meet the ratio you wanted.
It's bad luck to have been lucky recently, I guess.

Anyway, since you're here, I can tell you "Thank you for the giveaway" as it is appreciated.

Thank you for your understanding and I hope you enjoy the game. I have decided to remove you from my blacklist as it was harsh, in future I may whitelist you again but I do request you double check the ratio. Anyway, have a great day :)

Thank you (again) for your undestanding.

And the lesson is learned.

By the way, as the question was asked earlier above, do you consider the value from this site or the real CV as given by sgtools?
It greatly changes the numbers.

I am going from raw CV as it's much quicker to check than real CV on SGtools.

Well as somebody who's been in that situation several times I have to say it is a little annoying when you're just trying to give away games and people insist on making it harder for you. I mean it's not like you have your social security number or credit card number on your profile.

Still, it's not against the rules and I had some personnal issue with some "friends", so I have to keep my profil private (friends only).
