even though it's a gift, how will I know if the game is region locked?

If you choose to redeem the Codemasters keys from HB then most likely these keys will insta lock on your region. But if you will use HB gift link(s) to give the game(s) away then the key(s) will lock on the winner region after he redeem the key(s) from your HB gift link(s).

If you really want to make giveaways from those, you should make them South American region-only in the creation page, just to be safe. I'm from Chile, bought the bundle for my brother and he told me that all the items in the bundle had the "South America" at the end of each name title in the activation window, so most likely, the whole bundle is region-locked depending from where you buy it.
It's a shame you don't get a warning about it on Humble Bundle...

Yeah, a friend of mine contacted Humble Bundle and it seems that the Codemaster bundle is region locked.

yeah, seems this bundle locked to original purchaser countries

As you probably know, we are limited in what we can distribute by regional distribution laws and regulations. We're limited just like Steam, and other distribution channels are. So yes, there are regional restrictions.
I totally agree with you that these should be more clearly advertised — this becomes difficult when we have to make several different versions of a web-page, depending on the region a user is in. We're absolutely working towards a better solution that clearly advertises when keys are region restriction, or region specific.
For now, I would cross-reference with Steam pages. If you know that a game is region restricted in your country, and we're selling it, you can safely assume that you'll get the region-specific key. The same key you'd get if you purchased the game through Steam.

If I've purchased the bundle in the United States and it's region locked, then how do I mark it as such? There doesn't seem to be an option for games that are locked to the North American region.

There's no USA or North American region. Keys bought in these countries always work worldwide.

Oh, so our keys are always ROW, and can be used in giveaways. Cool.

False.
The two most obvious times where USA keys cannot be used worldwide:
Censorship - e.g. german censorship laws mean that a lot of mature games need to have a separate, toned-down, version for distribution in that country
Distribution deals - e.g. Cenega is the exclusive distributor for Bethesda games in some eastern european countries (Czech, Poland, Hungary and Slovakia), so games bought through a third-party service may not work in those countries. (1C has similar exclusivity for certain games in Russia)

This thread is two months old; there is no need to bump it to state this.
Also, just because there are exceptions to ROW does not mean that there is a USA or North American region. Keys purchased in the USA have the same restrictions as other ROW keys, unless they are explicitly NA/US keys, but those are very rare. Exceptions to the worldwide thing apply to ROW keys in general, not just US/NA keys. As far as I know, there are NA/US licenses, but unless a game is only released in NA/US regions, there are no exclusive status keys for NA/US.

Hey guys! How're you doing?
I'm from Montevideo, Uruguay in South America and with the release of the last Humble Bundle of Codemasters I saw something very weird. When I was activating the keys on Steam; after they were successfully activated, next to the name of the game said "South America".
Did this happened to all of you? Are we know getting keys depending on where we live? Because if that is the case, the Giveaway program would be affected entirely. :/
Please share your experiences with the last bundle.
Have a nice day! :D
