Yes, it was controversial on the forum when they announced it but in the end we (community) decided that it's better that they do it because they add a set of cards (or something like this) to the X1's CE and they get a "free" ad from M$. Game becomes popular>CDPR has more fans and munies>they do more stuff.

You will have a digital copy of it. So it's not such exlusive for X1. And you know what? Better that than few quests. I've heard also that CDPR has plans to open a shop with such gadgets. You may be able to buy these cards.

So basically they cut of some clothes and missions and than call it "free dlc". Game isnt even released so its the same as these day-one/pre-order dlcs.
So iam not impressed...but i will buy Witcher III no matter if there are free dlcs or not.

I thought about that too, but I don't think so. Those things won't come out on day 1, so they might still be in development, but not in time for release. Of course it's also a big PR stunt, but their attitude in general is pretty compatible with that, so all good. :)

Well I will be impressed if they will make REAL DLC (like new missions, locations etc) and give this for free. Giving new haircut for wither is just PR move, they won't have to work hard to make tiny things like this. And if game would be "mods friendly" moders could make things like that easily :D

"On February 25th we will release the first bundle of DLCs (2 of the planned 16) [...]"
"The second bundle will contain an additional quest and an alternative look [...]"
From what we know ATM the 2nd bundle will contain new quest(s), and that's only 2 out of 8.

well it's free so it's kind of hard to complain, even though it clothes and a few side quests perhaps they have them planned out but they just needed a bit more time to program them and such. maybe they wanted to put them in the game but time won't allow it so I see this as a better solution than having to buy some pre-made DLC that devs held out on for later just to sell

Look at it this way, they finished the game, are having the discs pressed and made, now they are like "Shit I am bored" and decided to make more content after the full game was done, and instead of charging like what Gearbox did with the Mecromancer(For those that didn't pre-order) they are giving it for free.

Now that is how you manage a game studio.

It's a nice thought, but it does feel as though they're cutting out stuff that could easily be shipped with the game, and labeling it 'DLC' for marketing purposes. Free or not, I think DLC on day 1, especially announced so far ahead of release, is wrong. Ship the game first with everything, and then start work on DLC.

You won't be able to play it on Steam ? If you can, that's great news actually.

Ignoring what could be said about your decision to preorder Ubi games, for the moment, are you sure it's bad news for you? You preordered, so if you regret it, you can still get a refund from Steam.
If you keep them, then you may end up with a somewhat rare removed game/s in your library.
Guess the only problem I see for you is DLC you have not yet purchased. Though maybe buying those directly on Uplay will work, since it really runs off of there, anyway.
