Is there a story behind it? Quite the odd match up lol.

  1. Cat + Persimmon😺
  2. Cat + Dry Persimmon😋 (not eat cat)
  3. The Crab and the Monkey (THE BATTLE BETWEEN THE MONKEY AND THE CRAB(猿蟹合戦))
    STORY?
English version that came out in the search.

Speaking of Persimmon, I always remember this.

lol, interesting story. I'm sad they erased unji from the english version. It feel like a color of the rainbow is missing.

unji ...?

Usu..MILLSTONE! 💡
surely.
However, even in Japan, the details are slightly different depending on the region, so it is acceptable.
Now, at the stage where “inorganic matter” “talks and moves!”, Foreigners seem to lose sanity.
(A story that is difficult to understand and accept.)
In this area, a story related to “Tsukumogami” (tradition and animism) may be necessary for understanding.

I hope you enjoyed the story anyway.

It's been like a year since I ever ate persimmons so haven't tried it in foods, and even banana bread is quite a foreign concept here, so it's just surprising :) I love it how because of the internet I find / know a lot more dishes from all kinds of cultures I wouldn't even hear about otherwise ^^ I'll look into banana / persimmon bread (persimmon is a relatively expensive here compared to other fruits and stuff, like 1kg potatoes is 300 huf, banana usually 500, while one piece of persimmon fruit is generally 200, many people just treat it as "too expensive" to do stuff with. I guess it will worth though :P )

A few years ago when I discovered (/dared to try) persimmons I was like living on them for days. It was funny :D it's a really tasty fruit, and I love the firmer ones, when their consistency is like cantaloupe's :)

I like the firmer ones too. Nice and crunchy.

I was like "the heck is a persimmon? Ohhhh... caqui", kinda weird for english to not call them some variant of "kaki" like most other languages.

yeah, it is odd that fruits can have different names per country

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

We call them "Khormaloo". if you can read that...

Not really, it's just a bit odd when most languages just borrow the same name with minor variations except for the few outliers that have something completely different.
I'm used to having a bunch of different names for fruits depending on the country tho, Spanish is a complete mess in that regard.

Had a couple of persimmons this week :)

Also tried to grow them in a pot several times - but they just grow four leaves (rarely six), then their stem turn dark brown and some time after they drop leaves and die :(

Pomegranates on the other hand are really easy to grow :)

A for effort on trying to grow them. The most I got to was eating them ;)

I can't say I've ever eaten one; it's a texture thing. Thanks for the giveaway; I just recently found out about this one, and it looks pretty interesting.

Ugh I hate persimmons. They look like they would be good but I don't like the taste at all. Hated them as a kid and still hate them as an adult.
