Most of us use AdBlock (or similar extensions) because ads are stupid and annoying. However, they generate revenue.
Since cg does not want to accept donations (which makes me love and respect him even more) let's at least disable adblock on this site. It is just one small banner anyway.
Running the site that we all love is not cheap and on top of that it is being constantly upgraded and improved.

If you don't mind please bump this post so other people would see it.

See screenshots below. Click "Don't run on pages on this domain" in AdBlock settings.

Edit: Screens show AdBlock in Google Chrome because it's a most common combination (I think). If you use a different browser or/and blocker just look through settings and you will find something similar. Don't forget to whitelist entire domain (steamgifts.com) and not just a single page.

I've gotten so used to ads on the internet that I don't even bother with a blocker...I just don't see them.

when you are forced to watch X seconds or even few minutes of ads before a video on most popular video sharing sites it's hard not to see them ;)

Not to mention ones that you may not see but will surely hear as they load with loud audio ;p

Yeah, I don't really watch videos online, and I only have my headset on when I'm actually in a game, and no speakers, so the audio doesn't bother me. I can see why others would use ad blockers though.

I block everywhere, but not in Twitch and Youtube, and now I disabled on SG as well.
Why I don't block in YT and Twitch?
Because there are some guys who earn their money and put a lot of their effort in their videos. I can handle 1 minute of forced ad before a video.

Well, you're getting something you want packaged with something you don't want. I block ads because I'm not OK with companies telling me to look at stuff that does not interest me and spoil my experience.

Instead of putting ads on a site, a developer could code some extra functionality for supporters, like what the ones you have on Nexus Mods. On SteamGifts, an example would be a cheap supporter membership which would grant small benefits like bigger point cap, ways to customize their discussion threads, emoticons, you name it.

You must not watch tv, watch movies, listen to the radio or pandora, use twitter, instagram, facebook, etc, use free apps, have an email account, open your mail box, view any sponsored content, drive on any major roads, search on any major search engine, play f2p games, etc, etc, etc. The point is you are being inundated with advertising for crap you don't want pretty much every waking waking minute. Even when you don't think you are it's probably still happening. You can't endure 30 seconds every 20+ minutes for a YT channel you like or a single box ad on a site you enjoy using so they can keep doing what they're doing?

Damn I just realised that out of your list, I only count as having an e-mail adress (with a spam blocker, too). Does that mean I have no life?

I very rarely use twitch - only for some esport events, trade events like E3 and rarely some gaming marathons like AGDQ, but yeah - I have addblock disabled on YouTube as well, because I want to generate ad revenue for YouTubers I enjoy. BTW - you can run a script that will unlock just the channels you like on YT while still blocking rest of ad content ;) https://adblockplus.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=23697

But I mean other platforms - for example one of polish VODs force you to watch like 3-4 blocks of 5-6minutes of ads per hour of content - even worse ads are ultra loud, they disable volume button during them, are not skippable or pauseable etc. So yeah - if your ads are intrusive and very annoying - I will adblock the hell out of ya :D:

Of all the places on the internet video sharing sites should be the first place you disable your ad blocker. Unless you're prepared for a world where pretty much all online video content is sponsored and essentially an ad.
I believe Youtube is starting to, or working to, implement unskippable, unblockable, ads before videos when an ad blocker is detected.

maybe read other comments not just one before answering? I said I am not blocking YouTube - I am blocking 5+ minutes blocks of adds popping up in the middle of program on VOD, most of the times in the middle of sentence etc.

I don't use any ad blocker at all. I see this as stealing bandwidth from the site you're visiting. If a site has too many ads I simply avoid it.

This is the same way I view ads as well. Nothing in life is free and everyone deserves to get paid :).

the world has changed and so must ads. like TV's model of scheduled programming is slowly being replaced by Netflix-like on-demand services, so are obnoxious ugly intrusive ads and pop-ups, which could/should be replaced by various other means of generating reneview - donations, Flattr-like tips service, or at least some control of ads you're displaying, like Reddit does.

I didn't even knew the site was having adds.

Going to check what adds are being used and might consider turning it off. I'm okay as long as there aren't any aggressive pop-ups.

I could confirm till yesterday - first time ever SG loaded me an ad that had default audio - annoyingly loud one let me add. I loaded 4 pages and each started ad at different time making thigs even worse ;p

Already did that since ads were introduced.

However, I was forced to enable adblocker again this morning due to getting laggy video ads which slows down my entire browser beyond functionality. Messaged cg about it, but he didn't get back to me. :(

I have Flash disabled on websites, requiring me to enable it if I want to see anything video related. You can change that in your browser settings. Then the problem arises - "What will cg do about video ads for people with flash disabled?" I'm fine with disabling ublock, but not fine with turning on flash for ads.

The ads don't bother me on the pc, where they do boil my a-hole is on the phone, the ad is just below the enter giveaway button and the stupid way chrome for android decides to load pages makes the button jump up and down as elements are loaded one by one.

I'm glad that Chrome now puts an icon on the tab to let you know where the sound is coming from. It keeps you from wondering which one of the 20 open tabs has started to get noisy.
