Use your credit card to purchase directly via steam? Your logic is so twisted it cringes.

You mean to buy the games at European prices? Because last I heard 10$ does not equal 10 Euros. No kind sir, I refuse to be scammed.

So your reason for piracy is because a Ebay auction based in the U.S. does not sell outside the country?

It's not allowed to sell digital content. Probably this is considered digital content.

Digital codes are allowed as long as they can be sent with a physical code and they are not prohibited for resell in the case of steam they are not allowed if they are just a key from like humble bundle plain generic keys that anyone could make up

If they look like this and you ship them in the mail you can sell them
http://i.imgur.com/U0xgjru.jpg?1

Though some do still sell humble codes and such on there but risk getting account disabled as those are not allowed. What some due is if they have a code like from the pic i posted, they will give you the code and also send you the card with the code.

Though most games on the are just plain keys and do not come like the picture posted,in this case the seller may have the wallet cards and will send you the code now,and mail the card to make it a legit auction..

Actually, they send you whole card. So they need to add postal stamps and all.

Pretty sure if you get USAnian friend to buy it, you'll be able to use it on your own, after he makes photo of it.

also it seems that you have to spend $100+, so if you only want a $20 dollar card, you're out of luck. Oh well, I got one anyway, and with the summer sale on the way, I'll definitely be spending $100 and then some, so still a really good deal for basically free money

What's the point?
Can't we just buy steam games via our cards / steam wallet - provided by transfer?

I mean - what's the point to sell it?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Say you want to make a gift for a friend of steam wallet funds so he can purchase something pretty he'd like
Would you rather give him your credit card info, or a code worth the amount you intend to gift him?
Hence the name "Gift cards"

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I would give him money for whatever he wants - physical or via money transfer... :I
Novadays you can even print a short code which would reedem a money transfer via Internet.

But my question was, what is the profit for SELLER?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Doesn't matter. it is still more convenient to just gift the card with the code, or just gift the code.
The point is people intending to make gifts purchase them. I'm not sure how to explain it. Thing is, some people purchase $20 worth of steam wallet funds ONLY because a gift card of it exists, otherwise they wouldn't. You can argue "BUT X IS BETTER" and it may be true, or not, but if you ask for a reason, there it is. The profit is a sale that POTENTIALLY wouldn't have been otherwise made.

It's a legit store (Best Buy) so they're probably making a little t kickback off each sale :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

  1. Possible oversight, they might have included this in the offer by mistake
  2. BestBuy is big name - could be a loss leader to get people to spend more with them in future
  3. Stores obviously make a profit selling Steam gift cards in the first place - depending on their margins they could still be doing so. No idea what they pay for the cards when they buy lots.

If I understand correctly, this is a coupon code directly from eBay. It may be used on many different things on the site from many different sellers as long as you spend at least $100. In other words, I think eBay is probably covering the $15 for the buyer and the seller will still receive the full amount. Or at least not take the $15 hit in its entirety.

If i remember correctly a wallet card is considered a new payment method as if you used a new credit card to fund your wallet. I believe activating a wallet card will apply a 7 day market restriction to your account. You should still be able to buy games from the store. Just a warning for anyone that wants to use the community market during the summer sale.

i activated a 20$ wallet card in january and didn't had restriction

Can anyone else confirm that adding one of these wallet codes won't add a market restriction to your account? I added one a couple months ago and don't remember a restriction, but I might not have tried to use the market.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The last time I activated a wallet card was last year so it is possible this has changed since then. Steam has made a lot of changes in the past 6 months so it is possible that this has changed. Just wanted to make people aware that it might happen. We will have to wait for someone to activate one and see.

I can confirm that if you have used Credit Card PRIOR to activating Steam Wallet Codes, you'll get market banned for a while. It's considered as new payment method.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Do you know if that restriction was applied to all accounts or just accounts that haven't used a wallet card before? I used a few of them two years ago for the Summer and Winter sales, and plan on using another for the upcoming Summer sale this year, but I don't want to have to wait through a 7 day market restriction.

It's a digital code masked as physical. You can have it delivered as Steam codes to your mail if you can buy it. Just get in touch with the sellers.
