Let's say I buy a fancy CS:GO knife from the Steam Market, but later on, the person I bought the knife from does a chargeback. Will the knife be removed from my inventory, and if so, will I be refunded?

Depends. Are you the other person too?

It's probably his younger brother, cousin or his dog.

No, and If I was, I would've had the answer ages ago, because that's literally all people talk about when searching for this online.

On Steam Support's page on "Payment Disputes and Chargebacks", it says: "With any chargeback, funds are held from Steam or returned to the cardholder. Since the funds are removed, the product is temporarily locked."

It doesn't say anything about the second hand buyer.

I think they said all trades done through the steam trade UI are final and they won't return items (or make copies of lost items). Wouldn't that mean the item stays with the last trader? In your hypothetical case, you.

Now, if you trade outside of steam trade ui... that's another story.

Reminder: I have no official source and am assuming based on things I've read.

I don't think the person can actually do a charge back, once the item is sold through the market, it is no longer in their possession.

When you buy on market the other person gets steam wallet, so steam has the money. If they did a chargeback (on what?) it wouldn' t affect your transaction, steam would just take the money or take back whatever that person bought with the steam wallet.
I don't know what would happen if you trade, though.

My concern is if the seller does a chargeback on the Steam Wallet funds they used to buy the item. It doesn't sound like this would affect me (the buyer) in any way, but I've yet to find a confirmation from Valve or from someone who has experienced this, so I thought I'd ask the question here.

After you get the knife (or item) it is yours. Steam wallet is a different thing completley, and if they charge back, it will be between valve and the user. You will not be part of it at all, since all you did is bought a knife they bought from someone else. So the original seller (who the person before you bought from) will have the money they asked for, and you will have the knife, since you bought it from the second seller.

So the person who charged back (the 2nd seller) will be the only person affected, and it will be solely between them and valve.

I believe this is correct. As I outlined in my comment above, If the person deposited money to steam, bought a knife, waited 7 days, sold it, and then charged back the money he deposited to buy the knife in the first place, no one apart from that user would be affected.
