Do you still trust CDPR?
Downgraded version run very badly in 1080p, not even titan x can get 60fps

good lord, he's fooling himself if he's hitting 221 degrees lol.

That's when he set his PC to turn off. The newest GPUs can run up to 248 degrees though (Although while aging faster). I don't think his are supposed to go anywhere past 212 though. I know my GPUs can run over 212 degrees, but anywhere over 158 is when they are negatively affected to the point of faster aging.

You'd have to convince him it's a hardware problem then. He's 100% convinced its The Witcher 3 doing it or that its a software issue. But hes mostly convinced its The Witcher 3's fault specifically and that the game needs to be fixed. Not his hardware, Nvidia's drivers.

LOL They had to confirm it? As if people didn't already play it and see there was a downgrade? They lied and they said nothing til they were caught on their bullshit. I don't even care about graphics but this whole "issue" is just the result of horrible PR. It's not as big a deal as some people are blowing it up to be, but it's also not simply "ok" for a company to lie just because the game is good anyway. To try to make it a big deal is to make a mountain out of a mole hill. To try to say it doesn't matter at all is to buy a pizza and get chicken instead and not care because "it was good anyway". If you order a pizza, expect your pizza.
They even lied to their korean market by saying that they'd have the game in their language on release. Now THAT's a big deal.
Comment has been collapsed.
I also found it interesting that with all the reviews coming out before the game was released, not one mentioned it. Now after it's all come to light those same sites have all these articles about it. They are also to blame since they purposely didn't mention anything and still gave the game high scores.

I think the big problem is that people usually point to CDPR as the antithesis of the current AAA fuckers. And so it's disappointing.
Comment has been collapsed.
im still downloading so i cant talk about performance xD, but downgrading graphics from "demos" or "alphas" is pretty normal, i think there are just too many pixel detectives out there these days :v
Comment has been collapsed.
No not really. The reason this is a big deal is because first ubisoft pulled this shit with watch dogs, and CDPR said that they would never do something like that, putting themselves ABOVE ubisoft.
And then they did it. I don't care about the graphics, but lying is a shady way to run a business.
Comment has been collapsed.
but thats why they are called demos, im pretty sure the run the "not representative of the final version" somewhere, to it to be lying it would mean if watch_dogs had those visuals i wouldnt had been the boring game it ended up beeing, you say graphics dont matter but then talk about them like you would enjoyed a game more or less if the graphics were good or bad. =P
Comment has been collapsed.
"not representative of the final version" If that was there, it would be fine. EXCEPT they never said that. Unless I"m missing it, please tell me where it is if I am. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MqQ3LeBgGDM I just see "IN-GAME FOOTAGE"
http://www.pcgamer.com/cd-projekt-promises-no-visual-downgrade-for-the-witcher-3-wild-hunt/ And here I see "There will be no downgrade.", which there clearly was.
To me this is not about graphics, this is about business ethics. When I order a product, I want the product. I don't want 95% of what I ordered, I want 100% of what I ordered.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually that's "Pre-rendered" footage and "In-engine footage". "In-Game" footage is as they stated, graphics rendered in the game, which they made a point to publicize, as to say that THOSE are the graphics you should be expecting. In their most recent article they even admitted that, but later figured out it wouldn't work, and NEVER decided to inform the public of their realization.
It's not the crime, it's the cover-up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually, I really can't name any game where "in-game footage" trailer turned out to real :(
Every time someone releases movie with "in-game footage" tag, it turns out it means game will never be on that level of graphics and thanks to that tag you will not be able to sue them (like Gearbox was sued for Aliens trailers - they didn't had in-game footage tag).
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe because you're being more picky than I thought you were. "In-Game footage" is a term I've never actually seen used on the front of a video before. Though the way they stated that i was not pre-rendered was in my opinion, impying that it was equal to gameplay footage, as that's what in-game is usually yes? Things you see while playing the game?
Nonetheless, they did still lie and say that the graphics would not be downgraded from that trailer. That's cover-up no more well thought out than Clinton's.
In terms of that "Tag though" in order to stop a lawsuit, that's why I see "Pre-rendered" and "In-engine" tags, not "In-game". In-game seems like the tag that gets you sued tbh.
Comment has been collapsed.
In-game is just another way to say "We're playing the demo. This is in-game, but it's the demo." NEVER Expect the demo or trailers to look like the game. It's nearly impossible. Why wouldn't they try to make the game look as good as they can in their ads? Editing and extra time in the demo helps. You have to realize that if they don't downgrade NO ONE can play the game. Oh great the game looks like real life but only around 2% of the PC gaming community can play it and if you try it on a console you get 10 fps in the menus. Dude think they need to sell the game as much as they can while trying to make it good. They have to settle for middle ground. I never expected the game to look like the trailers and neither should you.
Comment has been collapsed.
Because presenting a product that looks better in the demo than the finished version is false advertising.
If they had presented it as "Concept art", nobody would have said anything.
The fact that they continued to deny the downgrade didn't help either.
That being said, I enjoy the game and it looks great. I can uber it ad 30-50 fps, so I'm happy :)

The only thing I didn't like was the way they killed draw distance, because it was the base of what they called "points of interest". Everything else still looks awesome in my opinion, and it will keep growing, they already said that they will improve several effects in the next months. Besides, they announced 2 expansion packs, there are 14 dlc left, and the vanilla game is awesome. Now all I want to see is some gorgeous mods.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's why the option to choose your graphical options exist. They stated that the game footage was not pre-rendered, which means it's as the game looks. In-game rendered trailers have ALWAYS been what companies have advertised as their game will look like and they've nailed it until watch dogs, so I don't know where you're getting your information. Cinematic and in-engine rendered trailers is what never makes it into games. But they still blatantly lied no matter how much you'd like to defend them.
It's not the crime, it's the cover-up.

I don't own the game but i've read an article two days ago stating that E3 graphics was due to a filter which will be available on pc (According to the article,It has a bad effect on eyes if you play for a long time).Whether this is true or false,Cd projekt confirmed that all e3 assets are available in game so our community can do some magic.....Infact,A sweetfx has been already released and the game looks magnificent with it almost close to e3 graphics.
Comment has been collapsed.
Don't really care. The game is fan-fucking-tastic, and looks gorgeous even on LOW settings. But like many people, I'm playing it for the gameplay and story. Graphics take a backseat to those.
Also, the article you linked says this:
"CD Projekt Red will patch the game to allow editing of .ini files on PC, to push graphical settings even higher. You will be able to tweak grass and vegetation density, post-processing effects such as sharpening, and draw distances."
I wish people would stop slinging shit around/creating needless drama and just enjoy their fucking games.
Comment has been collapsed.
You are very correct, the game looks gorgeous no matter the setting. And I play my games for gameplay and story exclusively, that's why I still play old 90s D&D games, because I don't care one bit about graphics. But when you buy a product, don't you like to receive it?
What if you ordered a pizza and it was missing the cheese? Would you say "No big deal" because it was still good?
What if you ordered a GPU for a PC and it wasn't as strong as advertised? Would you say "No big deal" cause it could run most of the games you planned to play anyway?
What if you ordered a phone and it could do all the features advertised? Would you say it was "No big deal" because it could at least perform most of the functions you expected?
It's not as big of a deal as many people blow it up to be, but it's still something that CDPR needs to be told is wrong, lest they receive an apathetic reaction and learn that they'll suffer no consequence should they lie to the public again. I don't know about you but if I ordered a product, I'd want exactly what I was told came with the product. Whether it be a phone, food, a GPU, or a video game. And I think we all should.
Comment has been collapsed.
Pizza doesn't have to have cheese though.. There are hundreds of variants, many of which have alternative ingredients.
The other two statements make sense, and you are absolutely right, but to be honest, this is merely a game. If a GPU is not as powerful as advertised, then that's a problem because later on it will struggle. A phone that lacks a certain feature it promised can be troublesome for people who bought the phone for that and only that feature. But here we are talking about graphics.. What will the problem be here? That you bought two Titan Xs just because you wanted to play the game and look at it in the way it was promised? Well...
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it is not. It's obviously a business for them, but when it comes to graphics, you are only an idiot if you believe that trailers show the actual depth of the game. This is why no one should pre-order, if they do care about graphics. Also, like I stated, the difference is not important. It's not like they advertised a colored game and instead got a black/white game.
Comment has been collapsed.
You know what? Graphics probably aren't too important. And the game is still great. But I think you need to look at Resoula's post in its entirety.
It's not as big of a deal as many people blow it up to be, but it's still something that CDPR needs to be told is wrong, lest they receive an apathetic reaction and learn that they'll suffer no consequence should they lie to the public again.
The issue here is that in most outlets they claimed that the game will look better then it does. They were asked repeatedly "will the game look as it did in those trailers?" and they kept saying: "pretty much yes", even when they knew it was not the case - that's why it is important, and that why it turned out bad (and they admitted it themselves). It is not cool to misinform people.
So, as you claim one is an idiot if he believes the trailers, but what if he is assured that they are true by the developer? Is one not allowed to feel disappointed then?
Then again, they want to make it up to us, so why don't we wait and see what happens.
Comment has been collapsed.
I won't even bother replying to Koike anymore, so I'll just say that CDPR devs said/lied themselves when they said there was no PC on Ultra footage shown before the release of the game, and that W3 on Ultra will be jawdropping. So yeah, they lied too many times.
And honestly, I have game on a mix of high and ultra, and game looks just meh.. on few places it's looking wow and that's about it.
Vegetation is simply terrible, and there's something with sharpening in the game, everything looks like it was upscaled or something, I'm not sure.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, you are saying yourself that you are playing on mix of high and ultra. Not simply ultra. Plus the bar was set pretty high when they said graphics will be jawdropping - it might be jawdropping for CDPR, and honestly from the footage I've seen it looks awesome. You on the other hand find it unsatisfactory - jawdropping is something different for doifferent people. Plus it is possible to tweak the .ini files to make it even better. I believe saying that they lied when they said game will look good on ultra is taking it too far.
I feel we should be moderate in our opinions here, and in fact that is what I am condoning. Should they have emphasized that the game is gonna look worse? Yes. Should we let our voices be heard that they should not misinform us in the future? Definitely. Is it all that big of a deal? Not as big as many claim it to be. Do they still have a chance to learn form their mistakes and make it up to us? Yes. Should we be more cautious in the future? Definitely. Should we condemn them if they keep making questionable decisions? Yes, but only then.
That's how I see it anyway. I think it's reasonable, no?
Comment has been collapsed.
+1.
Couldn't have put it more reasonably, imo.
More than what was or wasn't done, CDPR should not get a total pass simply for the wrong message that it sends.
The same message that was sent time and time again by gamers to certain publishers that at one point were pretty awesome themselves and then realized "oh look, we can get away with anything, people will still take whatever we shove down their throats".
No more, no less, as far as i'm concerned. Obviously i can't attest to the actual impact of what was or wasn't done, but from what i've read all around, it's important enough to be noted, but not important enough to be overly emphasized.
In short:
P.S.: Voted for Somewhat, but not as much as I did.
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh man, you're so right.
Yes, indeed, I was just stating my opinion on the game.
That mix of high and ultra, it's just that foliage distance and crowd distance are set on high, for a bit of performance boost, with nvidia PhysX off, even if everything were ultra, it wouldn't make much of a difference. My main issue are some watered down/blured textures of vegetation.
About looking good on ultra, I'm one of those who rode on hype train. I never preordered game before, but had to with this one, because it really looked jawdropping on E3, and based on how much I enjoyed W2, and how CDPR kept saying there was no downgrade, I was getting all too excited
Whole paragraph, agreeing with it.
Yes, it is.

Don't be too hard on yourself. After all, there are still pretty great looking things in the game (sunsets etc.) and in the end you got yourself a great game with a ton of content and a gripping story. You may not have gotten the most awesome looking game in the world, but you didn't get suckered into buying a piece of crap either. Witcher 3 is still good as it is.
So you are still a winner in my book.

Before I start, I just want to say thank you for intentionally misunderstanding my simple analogy. It was not "if you buy a random pizza" It was "if you buy a pizza" specifically. As in a plain slice, and 1/3 of it (the cheese) was missing. I never said "Random", please don't pretend like I did. Let me try one I know you can't warp to your own liking. If you enter a Far Cry 4 giveaway and receive Far Cry 3, would you not care because you had fun with FC3 anyway? Yeah, try and find a way to warp that analogy.
The problem? I stated the problem and you seem to be ignoring what I said because you seem to desparate to believe that the only reason I am arguing with this company you're putting on a pedestal is because I want better graphics. Or something of the like is what I'm led to believe by your blatant warping of my analogies. Correct me if I am wrong but they were not that hard to understand.
If I buy any product. ANY product. I want the full advertised product. <<<<<<<<<<<<<< That is my problem. Please don't try to divert from it. And I didn't even buy the game, I am simply trying to stick up for the people who did and didn't get what they were told they'd get. Wanting what you paid for is a very natural thing, just because its a video game doesn't make that natural desire nonexistent. I don't give a rat's ass how the game looks, I care that they are selling a product that is NOT what they advertised. If any other game company did this they'd be receiving flak from everybody, if any non-gaming company did this, they would as well, just because they're CDPR doesn't change anything.
Comment has been collapsed.
I didn't buy it. I waited, I saw they lied, hence why I haven't bought it. Doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the many people that did buy it and are now furious that they didn't receive the product they paid for.
Also they announced they realized they couldn't keep the graphics that way in their most recent article. But they made that discovery shortly after the trailer and told no one, and then stated publicly that the graphics would remain that way. I don't know what you consider lying, but I think most of the world would consider that lying.
Comment has been collapsed.
Most complaints are not really about the quality of the game itself, but about CDPR lying through their teeth about the graphical downgrade. If they had come out in the first place saying that they had to downgrade graphics because the game couldn't run at a reasonable frame rate with all the eye candy, it would have made a lot less people angry. Instead, they said that no downgrade happened until people had the game in their hand and saw for themselves that it wasn't true, THEN they admitted to it.
Comment has been collapsed.
Regardless there are far more important things to actually worry about, for me this isn't even a mild annoyance, all those people screaming bloody murder need to live my life for a week and then let's see how much this matters to them :)). Oh no, the game looks amazing instead of super amazing, grab the pitchforks :P.
Is it disappointing that they lied? Sure, but when the end result is this good anyway that's like complaining your parents lied about getting you a Ferrari for your birthday and got you a Lamborghini instead (or the other way around).
At least you guys can play it, my ancient PC can't so I'll just be here crying myself to sleep :).
Comment has been collapsed.
Nah, it's more like YOU ordered a ferrari and got a lamb instead. YOU paid for the Ferrari, but instead they sent you a Lamb. Some people would think "Oh well, I still have a great sports car!", While others will think "I ordered a Ferrari, not a Lamborghini, I want my Ferrari!"
I feel this relates more to a situation like you ordered a burger with ketchup mustard and pickles, and they didn't add the pickles. Same case though: You ordered your burger with pickles, you didn't get said pickles. Some people would say "Oh well" and eat it anyways, while others will go back and get their pickles.

Well I would more compare it to blindness of today's people. I have always looked on the before-release ss like ''meh, it has dozens of photoshop in it'' and don't take them as real thing. Even if it says ''in-game screenshot", then it's like a horror movies, it always says ''based on real events'', while mostly it isn't. Also, when you order a burger, you can see a photo or something about it, as we all know - fast foods doesn't look as good as it's said to. But that doesn't matter, you still enjoy it, because of its TASTE. Burgers are also harder thing, you cannot fix them or do anything, with games there are always modders. For example, on the release date one dude made this.
Just look at the screens, in the comments people say that they get like 40fps on double Titan. What he made is really close to those trailers. If there would be no downgrade, not even half of dudes that play right now wouldn't even order it, cause they won't run it... It's still so much to say, but I don't wanna write an essay.
Comment has been collapsed.
You can put any spin you want on it, at the end of the day people are overreacting over something they wouldn't even notice if some guy didn't scream bloody murder and compared screenshots. The game looks great, play great, and is arguably the best RPG in a decade, and some people are acting like they got backstabbed because the game looks like a 10 instead of a 10+. Drama. Freakin. Queens.
Play the damn game, it's amazing, they delivered on absolutely everything including a great looking world, even if it had to be pulled back a bit during optimization.
Comment has been collapsed.
The problem is that everyone thought CDPR were "The good guys". They were trusted and loved. Then they pulled this, lied completely, and didn't say anything about a downgrade until after release when everyone had copies in hand. If they'd come out when they'd actually downgraded, and said "Okay guys we downgraded graphics but it was because most people couldn't run it, we're sorry", and maybe "We'll add settings and stuff in a patch, we'll fix it" then most people wouldn't be flipping the fuck out.

^This, once again.
It's more about the message. Sadly, i can't say the message is unprecedented in the industry.
The fact that consumers pretty much accept any lie these days is what truly shocks me. Not that i mean to blow this out of proportion, just not happy either to see CDPR cave into the same temptation that pretty much every company that reaches a certain stature does these days.

...Why wouldn't I trust them? Listen, let's face it. The games are VERY intensive on the average computer that the average person might have. If they were only selling to people who could run it aka people who buy Crapware(Alienware) or build there own computers, they wouldn't be selling to a big group. Not everyone builds their computers or even has spare $500, at least, to buy/build a new computer.
I mean, jeez, do people still freak out over Crysis 3?
Comment has been collapsed.
That being said, this is obviously just people jumping at stuff to complain about. People are assholes.
Comment has been collapsed.
That's what the graphics options are for. These hypothetical average people you described obviously don't care about the graphics enough to get a good computer, so they can just downgrade the graphics in the options to the point where their computers can run it. This is no reason to downgrade the ultra settings for everyone.
Comment has been collapsed.
No, it's not that they don't care but that most people probably don't have a god damn pile of cash sitting around to be spent only on a last-item-on-the-shopping-list product. No one is going to confidently spend AT LEAST $500 dollars on a buffed up computer when in reality that $500 is going to be required for a ton of other things. These things take time and not everyone is part of the rich-side of gaming.
That is, of course, unless you don't live by yourself and/or you don't need to pay for every single little thing yourself. There's always the people who have shitty jobs too.
Comment has been collapsed.
Whilst I can relate to the plight of the poor man (or woman), my statement remains correct. I never said that average people (as you described them) don't care about the graphics, I said they don't care about the graphics enough to get a good computer. It's a matter of priority; if a decent gaming PC is indeed, as you said, "a last-item-on-the-shopping-list product" for someone, then that literally means this person doesn't care about the graphics in PC games enough to invest in a good computer. Otherwise it wouldn't be last on the shopping list.
But that's beside the point, which was that downgrading the ultra settings for everyone - including the people who do have high-end PCs -doesn't make running the game any easier for the people who don't have high-end PCs and therefore have to use low, medium or high settings, anyway.
Comment has been collapsed.
Fair enough. In the end, they DID downgrade but it shouldn't come as a surprise or a mind-blowing opinion-changing event. It's not as big a deal as everyone is making it out to be. Maybe it's because I've never spent a day in my life being mind-blown by amazing graphics that are certainly out of my reach. I've been more focused on looking at graphics and thinking 'That's cool but... What about the gameplay and the story? No, really. That's what I care about. [insert common 'peasant' insults]'
I think it's silly to suddenly lose 'trust' in the company because I doubt they were downgrading the game to spite anyone. They were clearly doing it as a possible benefit to others. It's a risk to change your game and have it potentially be 'different' than what you original advertised it as. Not to mention, some of the staff on the team supposedly disapproved of it and were disappointed?
Comment has been collapsed.
People put to much stock into how a game looks, you know how many games where are still are down graded to work on hardware.
GPU and CPU power has not changed much in the last couple years so how are they suppose to make games look better on hardware that has not changed much power wise in last couple years. The only way is to make them run max on stuff like the Titan but the down side to that is that means that on lower hardware it prolly will not run so great or be like GTA V on low graphics.Seeing how most people on steam do not even run mid range hardware cards you risk leaving behind a big group just to make a game look pretty.
I do agree on one thing they should have admitted from the start, but at the same time just as many people would have dissed them at that time about it s they are now for not telling the truth. They are damned if they and damned if they do not.
People wanted GTA V to not be a bad port so they delay it to try and make it better, and first thing people do is grab pitchforks and curse, but yet if they would have released it last winter and it ran worse and had more issues then it did when it launched they would be bitching about it being rushed,Again no love no matter what they do.
Games take a lot work and also a lot time to make and take a lot of code,no game is ever going to launch anymore that does not have minor bugs just to many people playing them and to many ways for them to find things they may have not caught.
i rather have a game that looks nice and i can run at 60fps with decent hardware, then a game that looks amazing but struggles to hit 60fps with the most powerful rig. That just means even with older hardware you will struggle to run it at decent frame with most the stuff turned up.I want to enjoy the game now,not 3 years from now when i had the hardware for it.

It is not even 2016 so that would not even matter,as profits are reported quarterly, every 3 months then once a year.If they where worried about next year they would have delayed it till next year. The pc version may have sold decent but it did not sell enough to make the huge of an impact on earnings, the shark cards are giving them a revenue stream more then the game ever will.
In the end do you think they really wanted to delay for money? They have made enough off the game, and as i said they get a nice steady stream of cash from shark cards. If they wanted to have more money it would be easier to charge for all the dlc like heist and such vs delaying a game,as delays do nothing for share holders other then delay there profits and might piss a few off as it would mean maybe little or no return on investment. If they charged for DLC that would give them a steady stream of repeat income more then a delay of the game, like Payday 2 they put out something everyone month to keep money rolling in.
Either way in the end like i said no matter how they do or what they do,someone will be there to point out some damn conspiracy about money,or other reason why they delayed it,no pleasing these new generation of gamers anymore as they are to entitled.

Unless I messed numbers (tax laws are "cool") fiscal year 2016 starts April 1st 2015 and ends March 31st 2016 - I won't guarantee if that's fiscal year 2015 or 2016 (I'm pretty sure it's 16).
Yes, they did delay for money. Game was released with really big day-1 bugs (you created account with letters not in English alphabet? no game for you; you deleted Windows Media Player? no game for you), so for sure they didn't spend those over months polishing. All they've done was delay it to make console heists, then they ported console heists to PC version.
Money from PC version will be big. Right now there are reports it's bigger than XBoxOne money. It simply was better to delay release so when next fiscal report comes you'll be able to say "thanks to PC version of GTA we only lost 100 millions compared to previous year".

Sure, they should have came out and addressed the issue sooner, but the game itself is still worth every penny. I've just hit Valen and the game is absolutely gorgeous. I didn't realize just how huge until I started playing it either. Not to mention how emotionally involving every quest seems to be. :D
I'll note too that I'm running this on the minimum requirement specs with an i5 and a Radeon 7870 and having most of my settings around the medium mark.

Yeah, they lost a lot of trust with that...iam remembering an interview, where a Witcher dev said, there was no downgrade, trailers etc. are just so much polished.

To be honest everyone should stop trusting "gameplay" trailers. That's a bit sad but I'm not at all upset by it because I already assumed it was just smoke and mirrors. CDPR is a good company, but first and foremost it's a money making machine...

I dont trust cdpr any more.
and heres why... its NOT that it was downgraded... this HAPPENS when developers make games... no, where cdpr lost me, were the lies. The shady way they behaved by hiding it and denying it, and actually REMOVING videos online, and making promises they knew to be false, all to protect their launch. This is unacceptable behaviour from any developer....

Last year CDPR promised there would be no downgrade. and as the game started to come out, people started worrying, when seeing leaked copies and such. People (including CDPR?) said comparing youtube videos/streams isn't a far way to compare them.
But now they've finally confirmed that there was a downgrade in this interview here It's a really interesting read, even if you aren't interested in CDPR and their games.
Some of their answers are just plain... weird.
Q: Why didn't you say anything until now?
A: "Frankly speaking because we didn't see it as a problem,"
But a few sentences later "We don't feel good about it," Iwinski adds, "and I treat it very personally." Maybe it was just a weird translation? I don't know.
I don't think the downgrade is the problem for people., I think it's more of the fact that they wouldn't admit it, even worse that they wouldn't until the game was already out.
What do you guys think? This just a mountain being made over a mole hill, or is it something that should feel bad about?
