Hey there SG! In 3 days I'm leaving for Holidays and won't have access to my gaming rig probably till next year. As my notebook is old sh*t not capable of running anything more demanding than Fortix I thought I'd bring my old PSP with me - but after I launched it today I realized that analog joystick is broken - it's not precise and if I move it down input will wander to random directions, so it's pretty much useless. I didn't play a lot on PSP, just around 20-30 games so I'm sure there are plenty of great titles I never heard about that can be played without using analog stock - so I ask you for your help! :>

What I want?

  • Titles that doesn't use analog stick, or in which it's not required to play.
  • English language.
  • Good storyline is a must!
  • PSP exclusive or not avaiable on PC/PS2 (because these I can play at home at big screen, so why would I do so on tiny PSP? ;p)
  • Different titles for both Long playsessions and 15-30mins quickies while travelling in a bus/metro.

Genres: generally I don't want rythm-based games (as much as I love Patapon they're unplayable in loud/busy public transportation), racing games, fighting games, simulators or sports games. Everything else is fine :>

Emulators and PS1 Classics may be an option.

I can already play PS1 classics on PS2 emulator ;p That's why I'd prefer titles that I can only play on PSP ;p

Unfortunately, most of the PSP games I know with digital only control tend to be ports of 2D fighting games. emulation of older systems is your best bet for DPad only titles.

  • Final Fantasy 1, 2 and 4.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions (has annoying slowdowns unless you use a fanmade patch that requires a custom firmware)
  • Other strategy RPGs like Disgaea, Tactics Ogre and Jeanne d'Arc
  • Patapon games
  • Locoroco games
  • Rock Band Unplugged

EDIT: Hot Pixel, if you want to play a game like the WarioWare games.

The only one that covers to 'Not on other systems, or not a certain genre' is Jeanne d'Arc.

The last 3 in the list are all PSP exclusives last time I checked and the PSP remakes of the FF games are in my opinion the best versions of the games. I seem to have skipped over the rhythm game part though.

He wants exclusives. The PSP FF games are ports of the GBA versions with 3D grahpics (though 4 includes the Wiiware chapters as well)

exclusives OR not avaiable on PC/PS2 ;p never owned GBA nor any other GameBoy (they were not sold in Poland), so I'll gladly play updated version of GBA FF4 ;p

To be fair, the games were on PS1 (Final Fantasy Origins and a pack with IV and V in PAL regions). They just got some extra high level dungeons.

The PSP FF games are 2D, which is much nicer looking than the 3D graphics DS has for 3 and 4. PSP's FF4 also has an exclusive(?) Interlude scenario to bridge the gap between the main game and The After Years.

Final Fantasy War of the Lions (Tactics) is not a GBA port, but a port of PSX with added content, I personally would recommend it!

I was referring to 1, 2 and 4. All of which were enhanced versions of the PS1 releases.

The FFT remake is questionable in improvements, not everyone likes it over the original. It was still something playable on the Ps2 though.

Played FF 1 and 2, but never played 4 - so will give it a shot :>

Also thanks for other FF/RPG suggestions ;)

Already played and finished all 3 Patapons and Locoroco, also as mentioned - I will mainly play in public transportation, so rythm based gaes are a no-no in these circumstances :>

Avoid Persona 3 Portable, it's the worst version of Persona 3. Just play Persona 3 FES for the PS2.

simulating ps1:
Legend of dragoon,
Parasite eve 1&2,
Crash Bash 1&2&3&carnival

These are my favorite.I'm playing these again recently :P
QAQ btw how to switch to another line lol.

edit:
"Legend of dragoon" and "Parasite Eve" series have a quite long story but they are really worth playing, if you have time.
Crash Bash series are just for you :P

Just a note, you can order new, separate pieces for the PSP and replace the joystick yourself. You can find easy tutorials on how to disassemble it.

Yup, this. I've already done it on a friend's psp and it's really easy, the analog stick is held by just a screw if I remember it correctly, super easy :3

and for games: megaman powered up an the maverick hunter X :)

Rock Band Unplugged is really good, and as I recall Sid Meir's Pirates (steer ship with d-pad instead) and Valkyria Chronicles 2 (use shoulder buttons to rotate aim and auto-target) can be played for the most part without an analog stick (however it does make it easier to play in some segments).

Yggdra Union: We'll Never Fight Alone

One of the best RPG's for the PSP.

Don't forget Riviera - The Promise Land as well.

If you like card games, Yugi-Oh will not fail you, though you won't be able to read the card text during active duel. You can still read the text during duels but you have to manual show info it.

Megaman and Megaman X PSP (exclusive?) remakes are both good and use dpad.

Tactics Ogre is an absolute must if you enjoy tactics games. It's basically a FF Tactics with better systems.
