So just now I realized that the creator of the giveaway I won yesterday got permanently suspended, I assume very recently since the GA was created just 4 days ago, and now I'm not quite sure of what I should do.
I skimmed through the guidelines and FAQ just to be sure that there's nothing there talking about this potential case that I haven't noticed before but I couldn't find anything. And if there is something in there and I didn't see it, oops, sorry.
While this isn't the first time this happens to me, the previous (and only one) time was many years ago during the days of SG 1.0 back when key delivery within the site didn't exist. So I'm curious if it's possible to ask support to reveal the key for me so I can activate it and mark as received, or if waiting for a week to pass and marking as not received is the only course of action.
If anybody has a clue of what's usually done in these cases I'd appreciate some info on it, and I'll gladly close this thread if the answer is somewhere I just wasn't able to find it.

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Honestly, your best bet might just be to make a support ticket in category other and paste what you put in this thread and hope for the best. Unfortunately, support response time seems to vary widely from hours to months and I don't know how often "other" is checked. But that's all I got tbh maybe you'll get lucky and a mod will see this thread and solve your issue :P

The "other" category does have a tendency to have a bit of a delay, but I guess eventually I'll have to write that ticket and wait for an answer. In the meantime I'll keep hopes up that someone with previous experience, or a mod, sees this and gives me some guidance :P

been at least a week since my other ticket was made, still in pending.

Other got checked very much from the new, motivated, Junior Mods.
But they can't solve all cases and have done all that they could.

I don't expect they can answer this specific question of the OP.

That the higher ones look into the ticket will take YEARS.

I agree that under normal conditions it's up to the giveaway creator to decide if they feel like revealing the key or not since they are the ones giving it away, but considering that the person in question has essentially been exiled "forever" makes me doubt about how to proceed, and that's why I'm asking for the public opinion... or the "voice of god" in the form of an answer from staff.

Must admit I had not even considered the possibility of a mod looking at the key much less being accused of stealing it, I was just thinking about them clicking on "reveal" and moving on with their day, but now that you mention it that is quite the potential problem.
I was thinking about something more in line to how massive giveaways just reveal the keys automatically when they end without needing (or asking for) input from the creator.

If you create a giveaway for 50 keys or greater, the "Send Key" checkbox for each winner will be automatically selected. This means the keys will be instantly available to your winners the moment your giveaway ends. This is done to make the experience more convenient when managing giveaways with a higher number of keys.

That's from the FAQ, the way it explains it it'd seem to be fully automatic.
Not the same since this was a whitelist giveaway for a single key, but still, the system appears to exist.

Contact the giveaway creator. After being banned they may have taken the key and used it elsewhere, or they may be willing to still give it to you. Either way it may be faster then waiting on support.

That's not a bad idea, should have probably done that first. This thread is proving quite useful.
I guess after so long of following the same steps when winning a giveaway I just BSOD'd when encountering an entirely new problem.

Waiting is the only option for you -besides contacting the gifter on steam, to get the key there-.

I seen in the last months multiple """perma""" suspended ones that came back (nearly all after 1 year), multiaccounters, autojoiners, people that got catched 5x with unactivated wins (no joke!).
So, sadly, i would say the chances are "good" that your gifter will come back, sooner or later.

Which lead to the fact that hunting the cheaters is wasted lifetime, for the users and the (few) motivated mods that want to do something against them.

Yeah I got in contact with the GA creator and it doesn't look like they're gonna get this sorted with support any time soon, also they apparently no longer have access to that key, so I'm giving up on this and just waiting the week so I can mark as not received... gonna have to just deal with that win notification for a few days I guess.
I'm closing this thread BTW, it already served its purpose.
