They're not even a competitor. Always bad pricing, or discount, for me.

In the Spanish version of the site, they say that the keys and the downloads will stand available until February.

Conclusion of this text is: "Grey Market Shops forced us down as we cannot beat their prices. Digital sellers get not as good conditions [from the publishers] for their keys as sellers of Retail copies. [...] "

And this is what gray markets shop sell. Keys from cheap retail copies. I think, other shops may follow.

This would be a shame. I always liked them.

This was my first thought, too, after I heard Gamesrepublic...

I know G2A and other resellers are an issue, but I wonder if another bigger elephant in the room is Humble Bundle's store getting bigger and offering 2-3 times the special event sales Steam does along with Greenman trying to play catch up to both of them.

Bundlestars is also not a small player I think. They also tend to have some nice deals.

Absolutely... they've actually been a better store lately than a Bundle Site.

Indie Gala has been kicking ass on the bundle front but their store is still flooded with the lower tier of Steam shovelware.

Just hope bundlestars doesn't close down.

Indeed. Although it's been a while since they've had good bundles (like all sites actually)...

That's true. Last bundle I got off them was the borderlands one. The reason I like them though is because they have pretty good prices during sales. Picked up middle earth and dishonoured from their site during the last sale because of how low the prices were.

That's what I thought without reading the text, no official reseller can compete with grey market resellers. Probably we'll see more companies closing down in the next months.

A few weeks ago Gamesrepublic, now Gamesrocket, who will be next?

Glad Gamesrepublic are gone. I asked them several times to delete my account with them and they never responded. You see what shitty customer service gets you? More companies should pay heed.

Gamesrocket wasn't grey reseller? At least they asked scanned passport copy like they were.

Big publishers are starting to lock heavily physical copies to their regions. (2K, Activision, Capcom starting with Resident Evil 7) and physical is dying in many of regions too.

That will take care of that, sadly it means higher prices, since no grey reselling. Of course there's regions like Canada, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Japan that are like up to 20% less, though it would kill CD key sites profit when they can't sell newest games anymore for double or triple price of their buy-in price.

In my opinion it wasn't. If I would do such shady business I wouldn't choose Germany as a headquarter for my company or any other EU country. But I would choose some other country far away from US, EU and these countries.

Then it was listed on some forums in Steam, like here without beeing edited out through steam, which - for me means, that they're legit.

But if they were officially allowed as reseller by Valve, ITAD would list them.

They are https://isthereanydeal.com/reviews/stores/#/filter:gamesrocket

But I cannot understand these bad reviews. If they ask for an identity verification it is IMHO to meet German laws for 18+ titles.
Never had a problem, they were and are trustworthy.

But there isn't any price of Gamesrocket listed at the price comparison. Have never used that review section yet.

It's not entirely Steam-related but android game bundle site Ikoid is closing down, too, at the end of January, so if you purchased any of their bundles download the .apks while you can:

The downloads for customers will be available until the end of February 2017 - so everyone make sure you get the stuff you bought downloaded.

RIP Gamesrocket (& Gamesrepublic) another legit seller that goes bankrupt due to grey market resellers :/
Seems like http://www.gamersgate.com and http://www.startselect.com are one of the few 100% legit sellers left.

Never used this site so I can't say but like Games Republic these legit sites can't compete against the grey market resellers.

Looks like they have a new partner. Just got an email from them.

Dear customer,
a while ago we informed you that the business activities of the Gamesrocket shop would be closed down. Now we are thrilled to be able to announce that we managed to attract a competent and experienced partner willing to take over the business activities of Gamesrocket.
This is United Games GmbH that, just like Gamesrocket GmbH (In Liquidation), is located in Germany and sells official and licensed products only. In the course of the planned takeover on April 1st, 2017, we would like to transmit your customer data and order history to United Games GmbH in order to ensure access to orders already made by you. Transmitting the data does not mean you will receive advertising campaigns without being asked. The team behind Gamesrocket remains the same and will gladly keep on being available to you with full commitment and support.

What's weird is that this 'United Games' company doesn't seem to exist.

(I've seen speculation because of the very similar names that it might be an offshoot of the game server hosting company United Gameserver https://united-gameserver.de/ , but that doesn't really seem too plausible to me)

Interesting, I know a company I worked for that switched between names every two years just to get some sort of tax relief from the government, because it's in EU law. After they joined a bigger company group they stopped doing that as they became more profitable and have more investors now.

Maybe Gamesrocket doing the same.
