Original: First of all I know that it is not allowed to giveaway a game that you won in steamgifts. A year ago I entered every giveaway I saw just for winning something and I won "Deadbreed® – Death Deluxe Beta Pack". After winning it I realised that even though I won something, I wasn't gonna play it anyways. So it has been a year and the code is still untouched. I want to give this code away so someone can use it but would it still be illegal for me to create a giveaway for it? I mean I'm not trying to fool the system or get benefit from it, if that was my motive I would do it the moment I won the game. I just want to give someone a chance who play it since now I only enter the games I would like to play.

Also, this pack doesnt seem to be in steam anymore, I guess the beta ended. Would this key still work? They are still selling packs so I think it should. I wouldn't want to upset anyone if Im allowed to giveaway the key.

If anyone has any information about either question please let me know.

Edit: I was confused about the activation process and thought it was about just receiving the game, I learned that I also have to activate the key on steam. Thanks to everyone who helped me to learn whats right.

No, you can't.

If you win something on here you cannot re-gift or trade the win. Its a serous rules violation. I would advise you to immediately claim the key as well, because you are basically admitting that you decided to sit on a win.

I would advise you to activate it yourself, to be honest. :P

Well that's a grey area but the answer should be no, especially since a lot of ppl are using SGTools now to filter out those who don't activate all

It's not a grey area at all, it state in the rules that you have to activate the game you win or you risk a suspension...

I still don't think steamgifts rule will allow you to giveaway the game since technically you confirmed you received the game but haven't activated the game on your account, and steamgift rule is that you have to use the code on your account.

" if you win a game, it must be activated and redeemed to the Steam account used during registration."

Make sure you activate it immediately or you are violating steamgifts rule and your account might be suspended.

Yep, as others have said you should activate the key now to avoid running in to trouble.

So yeah, you should activate it.

I didn't even know this site existed. I was just entering giveaways without researching a lot about the site itself, I guess I was naive. I activated both games, I just thought I only had to press received. So now it says "Not activated Gifts on account ", is it good now?

Yes, as long as there is no game in red borders, it means the user activated anything (or at least likely, a few game doesn't get properly detected)
you're in the green :)

you won games and didn't bother to activate them - then you come on here and admit it - oh dear !!!

I didn't think that I was doing something illegal or even something bad. They were just sitting in my won games list and when I saw the games half an hour ago I thought "why am I even holding keys that Im not gonna play, someone else can play them?" and wanted to ask about it. I didnt even know what they meant by activation. It was silly, yet not intentional. But I'm glad I opened this topic even though it can cost me my profile. If someone would report me for this without me knowing anything about it, I would feel really bad. Now at least I know my mistake and fixed it as much as I can, thats all that matters to me. Thanks for the help

I can't open imgur images because its illegal in Turkey lol. But you are right, I shouldve been more careful, It didn't even occur to me that I should activate it on steam, nothing to do. Also I knew that I cant giveaway the game that I won from the rules, I just wanted to ask about it anyways.

I am just concerned for you to be honest - as people of SG can be a bit harsh, and that kind of thing can get you a lot of BL from people - especially as you effectively outed yourself - also, my oh dear bit was based on the fact that you have been here on SG for a long time and yet appear to have not read the FAQ with regards to games won and the activation requirements - might be better to close the thread, and activate the games, and pretend this thread never happened (just trying to be helpful :)

Thanks a lot for the concern, I already activated the games when you guys told me to. I mean it might be stupid but I just don't want to delete the topic because I think that someone else might have the same doubt as I had and this topic might help them. I mean I even read the rules but I don't have any memory about activating from the steam itself, someone else might overlook or misunderstand it just like I did. Also I think that if I will get suspended for it, it is too late to delete the topic now because whats done is done anyways :)

I suggest you edit the original post to put a big note above the main text explaining that you were confused and made a mistake but have now fixed it by activating the game. Like this:

Edit: Explanation.

Why did you enter a giveaway for a game you were "not gonna play"?

Okay so what I understand from your comments is that I shouldnt just hit the receive button, I also have to activate the game on my steam account? Even though I've read most of what I saw from the rules, I guess I missed the part about activating the games on my steam. I was thinking about giving it to someone so it wouldnt go to waste but I wouldnt want to get in trouble that. I mean I thought like "when I give away any game, I dont care about what the winner does with it" but appearantly its not that good considering the big picture since people can get benefit from it. Thanks a lot for the help guys at least now I know that I have to activate it or better, at least now I now what "activation" means. I always thought they were saying like "hit the receive button". Silly mistake. Thanks again, if I get in trouble for it at least I wasn't trying to do something bad just to relieve myself lol. I'm glad I opened this topic tho, I guess I was in blacklist because of this?

Yeah, exactly. After winning a giveaway, you gotta activate and upon successfully activate the game, you mark it as received as a feedback. GL

For future reference, if you win a gib and you change your mind (i.e. I don't want this game anymore) you can ask the giveaway creator to request a reroll. Just leave a comment in the gib saying you no longer want it and the creator can then submit a ticket under "Winner rejected gift". :D

Okay thanks, I don't enter giveaways that I don't want to play like I used to anymore but it's a good tip. If I change my mind about the game I win, I will remember this :)

I think the important thing is that you recognized your mistake and took the necessary step to fix it.

Some people will still hate, that can't be helped, but you no longer have a dark spot on your record. And reading that you're now only joining for games you want to play, I'd say you're understanding the point of the site a lot more that you did back then.

Close the topic - someone can blacklist you for your actions even though you activated all the games now and you didn't mean anything bad :)

I guess people already blacklisted me for a year from that site I just heard about :D maybe I'm still being naive but maybe someone thinking exactly like me can read this page and learn what I just learned. I mean that topic name was what I wrote in the google so if someone have the same doubt as I had, they can learn what they should do.

That or the not making any giveaways for the past 2 years.

Well it is of course your blame to not have read the rules, but to be honest, who has never done that when they joined a new site?

You are just a good example that for a lot of people it is just not obvious that a won game here, means that is has to be activated on the winners account. There is often no evil intent behind doing otherwise.

However, keep in mind, if people don't read the rules, then they also won't search for this thread with the corresponding answer. So I think you are just painting a crosshair on your back for the people who are rather unforgiving about unactivated wins!

Oh well, hope you win something more to your liking in the future :D

thats the reason why i was banned ( i agreed and talked about it with a mod ) , honestly before, i hoard joining giveaways even though im not gonna even play the games that's why i completely removed them from my account causing the 25day span suspension.. anyway since im back. It should of been have to join only the games you want.. and from now on i will only join wanted games, but for some reason my PP countings are not accurate ( idk ) [ never max back to 300, joined a few giveaways, became 0 instantly or low PP ]

There is no individual "point-recharge".
I don't know what the problem is in your case, but it has nothing to do with your suspension. (If that is what you are worrying about :>)

So why you even enter giveaway when you dont want to play won game?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well basically, I wasn't really happy back then and wanted to win anything just to be happy. Who doesn't feel good when they win something right? Well the happiness was for like a couple of minutes and I then learned that I didn't even want to play it. So I just left the site for a year. I won 2 games that time and I guess I didn't even check them for once. One of them was sitting in my inventory and the others key was sitting in the "won games". Now that I returned I wanted to fix what I did and appearantly Im a year late for fixing it haha

I know that feeling, I was so happy about winning that I entered way more GAs back at the start then I should have. But now I try to catch up with myself, at least try the games - if it's bad, it's bad. Life is life :D

Well I learned from my mistakes :) Now I dont even bother entering the giveaways that I think are bad, only the ones that I want to play. Thats the logical action but as you said I just couldnt stop when I thought about winning stuff haha

it's funny how sg-police gets so angry with op's question, and at the same time they break the super basic rule of not calling out by pointing out unactivated/multiple wins in the same thread

this place is amazing.
