So the Members of the Community can wait 6 months for Support to act on this issue and by the time that actually happens we're all out items? I already opened a Support Ticket... I expect nothing to happen like the 15 I already have pending.

You can copy and paste the same nonsense all you want that avenue does jack shit.

Once I reported a scammer who was selling Humble Bundle BTA for $4 when BTA was $6, he kept scamming, HB gifts were revoked later, but support didn't answer me in time, so he just scammed, well ppl's fault for getting scammed in that stupid way.
But calling out is still against the rules you gonna get suspended for a few days for that.
Comment has been collapsed.
And you not giving a damn for the rules just means you get struck with the ban hammer.
So, do you want to start listening, or will you continue to ignore the user trying to help you?
Comment has been collapsed.
I'll raise hell about this. If they don't want to protect their Members from fraud then so be it.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm with you, if the rules are bad doesn't mean we must forget to use our brains and not help the community.
If support will ban him after this then this is the best this website's staff can do which it's a shame. That rule is good if the time support answers would be good too, and it's not.
Sg staff must acknowledge their shortcomings too.
Comment has been collapsed.
who said they didnt?
for fuck sake, you are getting a bit overboard with your attitude
Comment has been collapsed.
You may not like it but without that rule things would quickly descend into chaos. Everything would result in a witchhunt which I am fairly certain nobody would want.

If you think this place is bad then you have not seen anything Nokkenbuer.

Trust me, I have. Just because I've bathed in shit before, that doesn't mean I can no longer smell it.

This place is honestly a rose garden in comparison to where I've been and seen. Trust me.

Trust me, I've been in deeper, darker, more horrible stuff than you've probably ever imagined. Unless you are a murderer or serial rapist, you probably can't top me, bud.

No, but I've spoken to them (allegedly) before.
My point is that unless he has actually committed some sort of heinous crime, I've unfortunately already seen the worst of the worst the Internet—clearweb and deepweb—has to offer in terms of communities and its members.

Yeah listen to the moron suggesting I wait months so people can be out games and items.
Comment has been collapsed.
You're looking at a 3 day ban. I'd watch what I'm doing. I'd imagine traders like you would go crazy not being able to bump their threads 50+ times in day. So imagine....3 days.
Comment has been collapsed.
Actually if I was mod it would be the 3 days + 5 days for misuse of trade feedback.
Comment has been collapsed.
Now you are just being rude and disrespectful. He is a more experienced user here and was trying to help you not get banned, and you go ahead and react like this. This doesn't even seem to be about warning people, you just want revenge on the guy that scammed you...

You know, calling him a Moron is only going to make things worse for you.

What you're doing is calling out a user. It's against the rules here.
Submit a support ticket and delete this thread, please.

Yeah that's easy to say since you aren't one of the masses being defrauded. This isn't a single incident. He's trading with hundreds of people.
Comment has been collapsed.
So? Your point being?
It's against the rules here to call out users. Right now, you just ignored every warning from the members of Steamgifts.
Basically, all we care about is that you follow the rules by deleting this thread. Nobody really cares to know who is a scammer here. There are hundreds, thousands of scammers being reported everyday. Just think what would happen if everyone would create a thread here every time?
I understand your rage (yes, I was scammed once, too), but the Steamgifts forum is simply the wrong place to post this.

What you're doing is against the rules, but I completely understand your sentiments. It can be a frustrating and precarious position, and I'm not sure on which side I fall. Despite "rules being rules," it's true that preventative measures should be taken since Support is currently woefully sluggish and probably won't be able to catch the scammer in time.
My suggestion is to close this thread, since it is against the rules, and contact a moderator directly, since this may be a matter of urgency. I'd message cg, but I don't really think that's my place. It's probably best if you try to contact support directly if you believe this matter is as urgent as you are treating it. If not, close this thread down regardless. Your intentions may be good, but you may be causing more harm than good with this PSA.
I admire your willingness to help prevent people from being scammed, if that truly is your intention, but this is not the most conducive method at this time.
Comment has been collapsed.
I think it's Rinarin actually is the one who handles SteamTrade matters last I heard.. Someone correct me if I am wrong.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well, cg is the only one on my friend's list (hence my mention of him) and it's for official reasons (hence my reluctance to message him about this). If I had Rinarin on my friends list as well, I'd message her, but I've yet to earn that privilege.
But yes, randomperson321, you should probably try to add Rinarin as a friend (if she permits solicitation in such matters). If not, the best you can do is try to contact any staff member and hope the information is relayed. In the meantime, continue to compile any evidence you find and file it away for whenever you need to present your case.
Comment has been collapsed.
i'm on your side despite what the rules say, but look at the replies here. why would you risk getting a ban if noone gives a damn about helping others?
let the guy keep scamming people and remove the info in your topic. just warn your friends and let sg mods take care of the situation. if noone's gonna support you, there's no point in helping others.

+1
With the staff size compared to the user base on this website, they're not going to respond promptly to these types of things which is understandable but that just lets the user scam some more. I dont know the OP and how he truly feels but from his posts it seems he wants to help prevent any other scams and people are acting if its a malicious intent. I understand rules are rules but just use the good samaritan law for example.
Anyways I would love to see a section where users can report others for scams on this website. Allow a few users to volunteer and give them limited abilities, maybe instead of rep they'd have some sort of trade suspension on steamtrades if enough proof is provided. Then allow a mod to come in and decide what to do with the user at a later date, this way action can be taken sooner.
Comment has been collapsed.
I wouldn't classify this as a case of being a "Good Samaritan." This teeters precariously on the threshold of a witch-hunt or public defamation campaign, and only incites panic within the community and fear, uncertainty, and doubt among its members. It hardly serves a greater good and fails to adequately address the issue. Anyway, your Good Samaritan law analogy only really works if members had the authority to apprehend perceived threats themselves, which is clearly not the case.
A section like that would be a dumping ground for slander, libel, and false reports attempting to settle old disputes. All that would do is incite further hostilities within an already toxic community.
Comment has been collapsed.
A section like that has worked on multiple forums for 10+ years. I understand communities are different but you act if there are no false reports already submitted? If there is no one giving fake rep? All I'm proposing is make a subforum for user reports (only trading), and give a few trusted volunteers the ability to decide whether it is worth looking further into and push the ticket further up the ladder. At the same time these "mini mods" would be allow to say, rep lock a user, so people are aware this user is under examination. You only allow authorized users to post, mini mod, accuser and accused.
You say it wouldn't work but its already been proven that it has worked.
As for good samaritan, I'm not saying it applies in this scenario, I was just using that as an example. I would still punish this user but clearly his intentions are not malicious. People want to ban him? For what? Preventing other users from getting scammed? He has already stated he knows the risk and is doing so anyways so give it a rest.
Comment has been collapsed.
I'm saying that such a category would exacerbate the problem of false reports and facilitate their proliferation. Unlike other communities, which are likely much smaller and far less odious, this community has a fetish for abusive and impetuosity. Giving them another way to slander their foes would only lead to further disorder and discord.
SteamGifts Support needs to expand its staff overall. The appointment of new moderators (and a filling of their slots in each rank of the hierarchy) is but one facet of a surmounting demand for the administration to expand, lest it topple like every other disproportionately small governing body. Moreover, there is the matter of choosing the right mods and combating and preventing moderator abuse, not to mention the coding required to establish the framework to even make any of this possible.
Of course the user above shouldn't be banned. The most he or she should receive is a forced thread closure and an official warning, but I don't believe any suspension should be in order, despite the rules. Rules which cannot operate dynamically are simply dogmatic decrees that molds a community along rigid, static lines.
I would like to challenge anyone who's arguing for the OP's ban (or even suspension) to explain their rationale for such a demand because I find it to be absurd. And no, mere violation of the rules is not enough. Rules, like laws and regulations, are meant to be interpreted. If they are blindly followed, dogma ensues.
Comment has been collapsed.
I do not want the OP banned. I don't like scammers and understand the situation. This thread didn't need to be created, but it was. For what seems like more than just to call out the alleged scammer, but to also call out the staff for not doing their job. Which to me is equally as offensive. Worth a ban or suspension, most likely not. A thread closure and warning, most likely yes.

"Unlike other communities, which are likely much smaller and far less odious, this community has a fetish for abusive and impetuosity. Giving them another way to slander their foes would only lead to further disorder and discord."
Oh FFS. You are always bleating on about what a terrible community this is. IMHO the absolute opposite is true. There are few places on the internet where people come together to give away stuff for little or no real reward other than for the sake of giving.
If it's such a bad place, why don't you make it a little bit better by taking your tedious negativity to some other more deserving corner of the internet?
Comment has been collapsed.
The generosity is dubious and ulterior motives are often at play. Even so, generosity in giving away games does not necessarily translate into positivity within the community. As can be clearing shown by a quick perusal of the forums, kindness and generosity usually only accompanies lighthearted and intellectually vacant exchanges, shitposts of memes and images, and comment chains extending longer than my posts. Occasionally, it can be found in puzzle threads or by a random act of kindness by a wayward user, but for the most part the forums is simply a shitting ground for all the refuse that scrapes off the rest of the site. Rarely is this civility and fellowship found among the worthwhile discussions and thoughtful posts, though. There have been many exceptions, no doubt, and I'm surprised at how many. Nevertheless, I remain unconvinced that this community is better off now than it could otherwise be.
The real problem isn't even the community as a whole. It's the regulars. I agree that the community as a whole is pretty decent (you know, except the whole furtive blacklisting by dullards on a powertrip), but the regulars—the common forumgoers who are in almost every thread—are the problem. A pity that so many of them are vitriolic and itching to mob.
Because I'm a glutton for abuse and too foolish to shut up.
Comment has been collapsed.
Well there would be people who would falsely report users, but thats why you have these mini mods or whatever you want to call them, to go through these threads and look at the proof. If it seems valid then they will push the report further up the ranks to someone who can actually ban/suspend. Mainly to lighten the load on the staff but at the same time it could be like an apprenticeship if they wanted it to, to find new staff members. I'm sure they have people in mind if they wanted to increase the staff but if not it would be a good way to find some people.
Comment has been collapsed.
I give a damn about helping others, but this is not the way to go about it, nor is it most conducive given the state of the community. In fact, this PSA may be deleterious by setting a precedent that could easily get out of control. Moreover, there are more efficient and less risky methods of handling this issue without fear appeals and the spreading of uncertainty and doubt among the members.
This isn't a matter of whether the community cares and your accusation of this only misrepresents this issue and misleads others along a similarly fallacious line of reasoning. The community cares, at least some of us do, but that does not justify this sort of behavior any more than a community concerned about a local thief should go out hunting for the criminal and slandering his or her name.
Comment has been collapsed.
Maybe this is a special case because normally scammers which end up getting called out did only very few trades/scamms and it would not hurt to take care of them whenever there is some time.
BUT it seems this user is trading huge amounts of stolen Never Alone keys if the OP is right so its a bit more urgent to react on this matter.
Creating support ticket wouldn't be solved in time with the huge backlog of tickets they have.
Comment has been collapsed.
Special cases, in my opinion, should only be determined by those with the authority to arbitrate. We may think it to be a special case, but unless the moderators concur, it's still a punishable offense.
Comment has been collapsed.
what "her" getting banned for 3 days for calling out to protect some people?
like you said only the mods can decide if this is a special case but untill then op is still risking a ban for other users. a 3day ban is nothing if this post helps 1 user!

And seeds the beginnings of a trend of calling out users, a precedent of witch-hunts and sanctioned libel? No thanks.

Other - 1 month ago...I reported like 4 people more than 1 month ago...and nothing for sg support...well... this is something that they have to realize....So much reports, not much people responding to them.. In this time im with OP.... He is scaming a lot...Maybe he is doing bad...but at least is warning all of you about this guy.

I also feel bad for myself, having traded with him. :|

Why didn't you post this on steamtrades btw? From what i understand pointing out scammers with proof is not against the rules on steamtrades, while here it most certainly is. At least when i got scammed i was told by somebody to post it on steamtrades since that person had a post there which he used to scam people. It certainly makes a hell of a lot more sense to post trade related stuff there.
EDIT: Also since you are talking about breaking the rules here, if somebody leaves you fake rep, you are not supposed to leave fake rep back to them as well, you should simply report them and leave it at that. I'm pretty sure this isn't bannable offense, but you should have that in mind as well.
