I've never played a hidden object game. Don't know if they are my type of game, but I thought I would give it a chance, by playing one of them.

So, if you're a fan of the genre, and could recommend one game, which one would that be? What is the single game that would convince me that it's a genre that hold many great games? ;)

If you do reply, check the comments first, if someone else has recommended the same game you would, give it a +1, and I'll give the most popular one a try somewhere in the near future.

Why recommend this, it got pretty bad reviews...

And it is a terrible hidden object game. The whole series is rather bland. I think they really hoped people would confuse the games with the Hidden Expedition series.

Go with almost anything that is Artifex Mundi related. The 9 Clues series was one of their best. If you're just getting into the series, stay away from Dark Arcana or anything by JetDogs Studios. Most of their HOGS are buggy and filled with gamebreaking glitches. You can't go wrong with an Artifex Mundi title. Also, Tormentum - Dark Sorrow. This one isn't quite a HOG, but it looks amazing and I don't care. I haven't been able to snag this one yet, but it looks amazing.

Tormentum has nothing to do with HOG genre, it's a classic point-and-click adventure.

Chains of Satinav is a decent one at best, but it paves the road to Memoria, which is incredibly good.

I played many hidden objects games. In my opinion Margrave is the best one. Too bad it's not on Steam.

I've really enjoyed the Lost Lands series - the first one is free on Steam. They have a map that shows you if you've collected everything in an area - this map system is improved over the series. Plus if you have an Android phone/tablet, they are frequently free on Amazon Underground - look for the "totally free" banner. I have a Note 4 and it's fine with being able to increase the size for actually hidden objects.

Additionally, you can never go too wrong with Artifex Mundi games (also usually some free ones on Amazon Underground)...

Yep, they're all pretty damned good, and among the best HOGs.
Some are a little better than others, but I've yet to be disappointed.

Thanks, some pretty good suggestions so far. I'll probably get the game at the start of next year (mainly because I have my hands full with a few other games I'm playing right now), so there's more time for comments and suggestions.

Most of these HOG's only take a couple of hours.. they're a nice casual distraction when you don't feel like playing that super intensive 100-hour RPG ;-)

Need to see if it's something I enjoy or not, so I'll start with one :)

Midnight Mysteries: The Edgar Allan Poe Conspiracy... and then continue to the next 3 games in the series.

House of 1,000 Doors - Family Secrets was pretty good in my opinion. It had a weird resolution and I had to play it in a window but it was well worth it. It's been more than 5 months since I played it and I still remember it so I guess this proves it was well above average quality wise considering it being just a HOG game.

Did you end up picking up a HOG?:) If so, which one did you end up choosing?:)

Seems like luck chose for me!
Grim Legends were recommended a few times here, and one morning when I checked SG on the phone there was a 3 entry giveaway for the first one ending in 2 minutes (top of the starting page). I joined and won, so I'm looking forward to seeing what HOGs are all about now :)

That is a very good one to try as your first!:)

If you are one that likes to 100% their games, you will need to do the game twice. Once for the Hidden Object puzzles, and the other for the alternate to the Hidden Object scenes (in this game, it would be Dominoes).
