So, who here read Discworld 33th novel "Going Postal"
some guys on Reddit wrote a hidden message for the Clacks:
https://www.reddit.com/r/discworld/comments/2yt9j6/gnu_terry_pratchett/

a real suggestion, to add it to the code of the site. no poll or anything... just to remember a guy who really loved Video games.
there is also an extension for chrome to see which sites has the GNU inside ;)
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/clacks-overhead-gnu-terry/lnndfmobdoobjfcalkmfojmanbeoegab

don't have any pages, and don't have any skill in webpages.

Edit: NEW GIB TRAIN!

I never read it, but I watched a bbc show of it. Not sure if it was a miniseries or a tv movie but it was pretty cool! It had poirot in it too :P

Well...it was the actor who played poirot on tv, David Suchet. I just always refer to him as poirot :P

Here's a link to the movie page on imdb

David Suchet! HE is THE POIROT like Jeremy Brett is THE SHERLOCK HOLMES for me ^^ Really great show btw, does justice to the book too. Would recommend Hogfather too, my favorite Christmas movie :>

I have nothing against people wanting to remember someone who has touched their lives. I do like to keep things in perspective, however. This last week, many, many people died, some of them perhaps better human beings than Terry Pratchett. There is always a reason to remember the dead, but what is an appropriate remembrance? Why build a monument to one person instead of another? Why build one at all? Isn't the greatness of a person carried forward in time by the memories of those whose lives were affected?

It seems to me that the best memorial to someone you admire would be to live your life in such a way as to respect his or her ideals, or pass along what you have learned from him or her. That way, the person keeps on living, even after death.

True. i completely agree with you.
but, since this memorial is simple (more work was done on this comment) it could still be nice.

it was just a suggestion, no hard feelings. if you don't mind, i'll keep this discussion open if someone else wants to do it on another site.
should i move it to off-topic?

I don't see a need to do that. It is a suggestion, and it's up to cg whether or not he wants to act on it.

Damn, now I feel kinda bad cause you are right and I did not think like that when I first read the post...

I don't think there is a reason to feel bad, and making you feel bad was certainly not my intention. I was hoping to provoke thought, not guilt. As human beings, we have a tendency to do things without thinking through the "why" of what we do and and seeing that there are perhaps better alternatives.

Awesome idea...I'd never heard of the clacks before, or keeping dead linesmen 'alive' in the clacks as I've only read a couple of the books so far, but I like the idea...

ah, for that you need to read the Terry pratchet books.
in the last one he had a Discworld version for the emails (no internet, just emails, so no gifs, sorry)
and for emails to continue circulate (system msg for example), it had the GNU before. so now "every" fan add this to his webpage. why? cause.
what does it do beside make you feel good and remembering Terry, nothing.

thanks for bumping the thread.

We need another Discworld game.

Shador of Mordor mechanics and Cohen the Barbarian as the protagonist, with Paul Kidby style graphics. Want that now.

Or L.A Noire style, and you are Vimes.

I think the early cover art is better. The crazy mishmash of everything in the book. That was amazing

It depends. Josh Kirby made some great covers (the cover of the first Discworld game its amazing), but some insane ones. Particularly awful are it's depictions of Rincewind, Twoflowers and Granny Weatherwax in older books.

Paul Kidby nailed the designs IMHO.

Awesome stuff man! The only things that you can get here in argentina are the books if you are lucky.

Now I'm plotting the Discworld map as an adhesive vinyl, to put on the living glass table. :)
