Hi,
so today some of my friend had the idea to go to the cinema.
I was up for "Warcraft" or "Now you see me 2"... But in the end someone ended up saying "The Neon Demon" and that it was a good horror film, so we decided on it.

We should have never done that !!!

So we watched it and at the end we were like "WTF is that !?!?!?!?"

So my question is.... Have you seen it. If so did you like it and could you please explain to me the plot... I mean maybe there was something more than the basic plot that everyone (me included) could understand.

Gibs:
Of Carrots And Blood
Collider
ASMR Universe
Tales from the Void
Rise of the Ancients
Strayed

I don't mean to offend anyone. But for me it was really a trashy film.

Haven't seen it, didn't even know about the film. Was thinking the thread was about a game.

As an aside why is the title of the thread "The Neon Monster" if the name of the film is "The Neon Demon"?

After you see it... the name won't be as bad as what you have seen.

It doesn't happen often but I really couldn't follow the plot XD

I mean the plot itself is pretty simple, but the problem lies in "how" it is carried out.

Just read the few reviews that are available.
It seems to be beautiful, boring (on purpose?) and shot like a music video, one big metaphor for "the industry".
I guess it's best for arthouse fans, not regular cinema goers.

Well it's true, it's not for a large fanbase, or at least it's how I see it.

I think that the concept itself it's not really bad. But, probably because of my lack of knowledge, I missed out too much references or anything like that, because there are really some part that make no sense to me.
And on the other hand I think some part are really exaggerated a lot too much.

Haven't seen it yet, but I'm a big fan of Refn. Drive and Bronson are stellar flicks.

I'll probably check them on a later date.
If they're like the film I just watched I doubt I'll be able to like them much though.

Also after you'll see it. I'm assuming you're interested and are going to watch it.
Would you eventually be willing to answer some questions?

Certainly, I'd be happy to. I've watched those other two a dozen times. I'm quite the cinema nut, actually-- went to film school, am a freelance editor, and have worked in television for over six years. I haven't made it out to the theatres much this year, but I'll hit you up once I've seen it.

Haven't heard of that movie so I looked up for the trailer, it looks... artsy.
If the trailer is to believe it seems to be more of a psychological movie that an horror film, kind of reminded me of the Black Swan.

After seeing it I can confirm that the horror that is not really related to the film.
Also yes it's mostly a psychological movie... the fact is that there are some part that did not make any sense to me XD

Horrible movie with a misleading title.

If you actually paid to see it you should've asked for a refund or a replacement ticket to a diff movie.

What's your favorite movie?

Probably a tie between Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas and Terminator 2: Judgement Day.

Fear and Loathing is a great example. Reception was widely polarized and likely many viewers who had the same reaction as you did above.

Different strokes.

Don't make me tell you that secretly my real favorite movie is Kate & Leopold.

Yep, we paid for it... An 8 euros ticket as always.

The main problem was that we wanted to see an horror film, 2 of my friend whenever a new movie with an "horror" tag appear want to see it, and that was a major letdown.
Also as someone said it was probably a film that was not mean for a very large fanbase (?) but mostly for people who actually liked the genre (?). [Note: this is an interpretation, I don't really know how and for who the producers made it.]
The last factor that made me dislike the movie was the fact that there are some scenes that actually made no sense to me.

I want to watch it! It's from Amazon Studios, so I'm curious about how they've done.

After you've watched it could I ask you something in regard to it?

Hmmn, Refn. The snobbish part of me that likes artsy movies for the sake of them is definitely interested in this one. Still, it's not out here till July 22nd.
