I know that feeling :P The avatar is actually from something from the 80's, from before I was born, but due to a friends parents, I got exposed to 80's geek culture at an early age, and when I picked my screen name (from a book not really suitable for children...), I thought the avatar was fitting (related somewhat in theme, but not at all in origin). Exactly what it is I won't say just yet.

While you are hijacking this thread, why dontcha hijack it my way and judge my avatar too. While you are at it, you should judge your own.

I know you gonna say that , and like every angry touhou fan i will say this " Touhou is a game not anime"

I can agree with that.
Also various memes. A book shouldn't be judged by its cover, but how seriously can you take a person with an avatar referencing some lame internet meme...
Personally, I've never watched or read animes/mangas, but I don't mind anime avatars.

Somehow a Twitter user with a master’s degree in engineering and years of experience in the field becomes less important than some random 16-year-old kid from Tumblr merely for having a Maki Nishikino avatar. Could you believe it?
Yeah, sounds exactly like science.

Except when they defecate everywhere and bite your sensitive bits.

I felt insulted.
Usually people classify anime as children cartoon, with the only difference is that is made in Japan. But we don't know how the study was made since it wasn't released the research yet. I also would like to know if they compared their result with other types of avatar(animals, slut women, paintings, regular people faces, "?", etc.).
But I'm not the best e.g. because I'm pretty stupid most of time xD

That's where I go to school! Well, I don't belong to the school of social media sciences [which probably doesn't exist, but who knows; we have a center for the greater good], but still. This study sounds... dubious, I wonder how it was conducted. And even if this was true, it just claims bias/cognitive bias still happens, which is already pretty obvious.

I'd like to see the actual study. I like how they didn't link it at all. Honestly this article seems like it's from The Onion.

How interesting.....
just type "Dr. Rebecca Fordham" or "Dr. Pervesh Murfaz" in google, no information about them......
can this study be trusted?
(p/s: am I saying something irrelevant?)

I'm pretty sure this is just a satirical article - there's no actual study done.

Pretty sure you are right, no source to the study itself, and i can't find the authors neither, since it's from august 2014 it would seem strange that there is only one anime site referencing it.
I did found a Vice President and President Anime Club by the name of Rebecca Fordham thought.

+1 look at the sidebar:
Netflix Developing ‘Left Shark’ Anime Series
Japan Falling Behind in Education Because Students are Idols, Superheroes, etc.
Live Action Yuri Kuma Video Goes Horribly Wrong
New Legend of the Galactic Heroes to Have All Female Cast
Parents Unearth Son’s Terrible Fan Fiction
10/10 trustworthy news site.

Well as I see the main issue here is that their opinions are invalidated by nothing else than the other people's prejudice. So they're not trying to say that people with anime avatars are more stupid (that would be quite unscientific) but that they are taken less seriously for no logical reason.
Still, my experience with 'social networking sites' in general is that they are undoubtedly still a subset of the Internet(z), where the majority of people still (sadly) are or act like immature kids and would probably be prone to any excuse they can get when attempting to win an argument against another person, including making fun of their avatars.
People with common sense (I hope) would still treat others with equal respect and keep their behaviour rational.

No source, does anybody have a the link or is it just a joke ?

lmfao the guys who conducted the research/study forgot about a lot of stuff in their study and generalized on female character avatars that are less than 12yo in the anime :D funny people, and I'd rather listen to someone with anime avatar rather to someone with weed or some other shit like that on his profile, lmao

I love how butthurt people are getting over this. xD
'omg people automatically assume I'm childish because I have an image that, to the general public, looks like a children's show'. Most people don't even know what anime is. If it looks like a cartoon and quacks like a cartoon, people are going to think the same of your cute little anime girl as they would if you have an image of princess barbie.
(I know it's fake, but still funny. xD)

My first reaction was "this sounds like something taken out of context or someone reporting an internet rumor as news", and started to look for the actual report. Then I looked at the list of other articles to the right of the article.
Still glad I don't have an Anime avatar.
