Since when does steam let users remove their games? Some of my gifted games have the 'Remove' link, as if they were free to play and others don't (see image). Anyone can explain why? I'm not going to try it to see wether it really works or not, but I don't think I have seen this before...

strange enough, you can see Mercenary Kings is in my library already + it is removable. I have another MK gift item in my inventory which steam would even let me redeem to my library!? I thought you cannot redeem something what you already have in your library? I don't have to tell you that I'm not going to try this either.

Anyone knows what's going on here? Is this a bug or something?

EDIT: After making a forum post in the official steam forum about it, it looks like Valve took note of it disabled this feature again. This may have been a bug if you ask me. You're welcome Valve.

it's seems to me it's only at games which were activated from 2/3/4-packs, at least that's on my account (Space Engineers, Rise of Nations, Payday 2 Christmas soundtrack, Hack'n"Slash.. All from X-packs)

I thought the same first but one game in my library is removable although it doesn't have any x pack (Onikira). It says "Onikira - Demon Killer Gift Key" so it is probably not the "real" game either (like a x-packed game)...

It's from 2 pack. It's just not named as such ("Contributor pack")

alright then. for some reason my Metal Slug games are not removable although both are from 2 packs. I really don't know what criteria a game must have to be removable.

Yup: Can confirm that you can remove the gifted gifts. Which were gifted to you, and I can remove Dying Light too from my acc. I'd never do that, though :D

that is crazy and nonsense, if I eventually remove one copy, does it disasppear completely? like a Space Engineers 4-pack? That's silly.

I hope you removed some cheap ass shitty game. One question though, will it ask you to confirm whether you really want to remove or does it remove immediately on the first click?

It was a bundled game, and i didnt quite like it, NOPE, click one time = permanent removal

This is so moronic. What if you get hacked? Not only can you lose items, but games now if the hacker feels like trolling.

  1. Buy Defy Gravity
  2. Farm cards and then remove the game
  3. ????
  4. Profit, rinse and repeat

Sounds like a busyness plan. The only trouble is there are no 4 packs for Defy Gravity :(

Card drops are account linked. They stated it somewhere because you can already remove games from your account. The support can do that for you so they already avoided this abuse

You can't, the community items, time played, stats can't be reseted, stay hidden until you buy the game again.

Darn, I was so happy when I saw this thread but sadly only a small portion of my steam library has "Remove" button :(

I see that there are probably many people who would like to have some of their unwanted shit removed but this is just plain bullshit. Steam should either let you remove every game with some kind of additional confirmation (like email) or no game at all. Figure shit

True, they should at least ask if you really want to remove it or it was just a misclick.

This feature was often requested on Steam forums. Some users want to unclog their Library this way... not that I agree with that or will use it ever, but each to his own.

I wish I could do the same with "The Crew (BETA)" from my Uplay account. It shows as "Expired" but it was never removed after the Beta ended, and I never installed it either. I even asked to their Customer Support so it could be removed or revoked, but I was totally ignored... (—_—)

Search

Yes the most games are from 2-4 gift copies. Steam need to add this option to all games so to get rid of some junk.
My payday 2 copy is not removable, was activated from 4pack gift.

Urgh, man, that's not a bug, it's a feature! I'm not even kidding, removing games has its uses. I don't know why you'd want to remove the ability to remove games. We're not morons, we're not going to "accidentally" remove all our games. Besides, this only applied to games activated from 4 packs, so one could've theoretically used it to buy a 4 pack, remove the activated copy and then buy another 4 pack. If anything you're encouraging Valve to be as restrictive as they've been recently.

I'm actually happy that they fixed it, I just don't like the idea of games being removable without some sort of 2 levels security.
Also, why would I want a game gone from my account when I can just hide it from the library?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Being able to buy multiple 4 packs would be the main reason, the 2 levels of security thing wouldn't be a problem if you aren't careless around the account details page.

Well as clearly stated I was okay with the idea of removing games, but not the way they implemented it. Make it for all games and not just a few. Make it safe and not that fuckin easy. I know deleting accidentally is hard but it is possible. Try opening that list in your smart phone then scroll down with your fat thumb... Oops, did you just remove a game??? Which game was it again?
