There are one danger. When You share library, if someone get a ban, you will get it.

I already shared my account with a few friends. I'm shocked to know about this bans,
I'm thinking to disconnect some of them.

I think no one else can get a ban, because in family sharing function you cant use online game/only multiplayer mode.

Close this topic, Support takes them as begging ("please give me access to all your games" is never taken to be anything else).

Yup, what Fruitbean said. I think it will be hard to find a stranger who would like to do that. Also you should be careful too cos requests like this are always an opportunity for scammers.

Lol why would anyone be willing to do this again

Also GTAV is not eligible for sharing

This is not safe at all. I would not let a stranger anywhere near my PC, much less my Steam account. Geez, I hope people have enough common sense to not go for this.

To share the library, first you have to log on Steam from the computer you want to share it with, but I agree with you, way too risky.

As others said, this is a terrible idea. Not only will you most likely atract some scammers, this can also be considered begging (give me acces to all your games for free)(which is against the rules). And of course it's not safe either. Also, if someone that plays on your shared library gets a ban, you get one as well.

I might share my library with someone I know really well and trust, so I would say that is a no from me.

Beside all the unsafety stuff aside. "preferably had a large steam library" while you only have 298, and someone should give you access to their 1000+ game library?

And most of those 298 games have been free, bundled or cheap. Only a few really impressive titles in the lot, and most people with the games he wants would have those anyway.

There is a reason its called "family" sharing,a stranger on the internet is not considered family and as such could get your steam account banned.

If you're so desperate to play games you don't own, don't ask to use someone's Steam account. Just pirating the games you want is better than being a scammer. That way you're not hurting anyone except yourself

Like hell I'd be crazy enough to grant anyone full remote access to my personal machine.
This sounds just as legit as those people named "Steven" from "the computer support" who can detect there's an issue with it over the internet, while it's not even switched on.

besides, family sharing means you won't be able to access your friend's library while he plays.
completely useless feature.

I don't know, a friend has been rocking my library while I'm at school, and he has purchased some games because he liked them after trying them from my library.

putting aside issues of letting a stranger into your PC and trusting them not to cheat.

besides, family sharing means you won't be able to access your friend's library while he plays.
completely useless feature.

How is enabling you to play more games a "useless feature"? No one plays 24/7, you know. If you take into account that you can also have a mutual sharing partner from other side of the world (which the OP stated as preferred) than you can easily play every day while they sleep. Nothing is useless about it. for the record I share my library and got my library shared and it's working very well for all sides.

what's the point of sharing a game, if i can't play anything while the other person plays it?

if they are so desperate to play it, better just pirate. it's the same since the dev won't get money from them.

So you just conveniently disregarding what I've just said - no one plays 24/7 and people do other stuff (work, school/college, family, sleep)?

And the pirate thing is a bad comparison -

  • when you pirate you mostly don't get the latest update, and always need to keep checking for it which is a hassle, while games on FSed will be updated like any other games you have in your library
  • you can play online, play with friends, get into leaderboards etc'
  • you get achievements

Edit: It might not work for you, for whatever reason, but you paint it as a general rule -"useless feature" - like it's applied to everyone. Fact is people use it and enjoy it and Valve wouldn't have made it available if it was useless. Can it be better? of course. But this isn't the point here.

i didn't disregard anything, i just don't agree with it.

you can't idle games, or if someone lives with you they can't play anything either.
letting others play mp games from your library? easy way to get vac banned.
achivements? if they really want to get stats, they should just buy the game.

ok, add this to every single post i make

in my opinion

there, problem solved.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Indeed it is - if it only applies to you. So why are you still trying to argue points? :)
You're free to have an opinion, disagree and still be wrong about it.

  • you disregard it, because "what's the point... if i can't play anything while the other person plays it" was already answered in my previous comment to you - "No one plays 24/7" and "you can easily play every day while they sleep". When you want to play they get a message they have 5 minutes to quit or purchase the game so you'll never be stuck out of your library.
  • no one claimed you should use Family Share with people you don't trust to cheat in MP. I said right from the start that it is an issue.
  • I don't give a crap about achievements, but some people do, so what's the problem with letting them have it in a legal way, sanctioned by Valve itself? What's with that "really want to get stats" - if you made an achievement in a game that doesn't belong to you, you still made that achievement. It will also be saved if you buy decide to buy the game.

Okay, since you're not trying to actually have a discussion, only pointing out your bias against this feature with flimsy claims, I guess we're done here.

So here's an anecdote from me that contradicts yours:
I've shared my library and got libraries shared with me with THREE different people. Wow uh?
You just failed with teamviewer and think it's bullshit now - it's not.
