When you click "Received" on a game you won, I noticed you are still participating in other giveaways of that same game.

When you win something, you have to go to Entered and manually sign off every other giveaway of that game. It also makes sense to Sync so you don't accidentally enter again.

Why not make these two additional steps automated?

Edit: After reading your comments I understand doing whole Sync might not be the best idea since it's actually not so simple process and would be a huge hit on servers. I'd say either do a lesser version of it where your SG account would remember that you own the game until you do full resync, or just don't do it.

Still not sure whether it'd be better to do it upon clicking "Received" or upon winning. I see pros and cons of both.

Received cons?

Example: you win same game twice in one minute. You didn't click "Received" in time right after first and you didn't sign off that second giveaway in time.

It's possible, but the odds are usually against that ever being a concern anyway... ;)

Since code has to be written that says "When 'WIN' then 'Remove entries of same game' " it is not hard to add " + Re-sync account".
I suppose.

+1, with a little proviso; have it auto-remove you from other giveaways for the same item once the "Recieved Key" option has been checked. Yes, it'd be rare to actually win the same item on two giveaways within the same period of time, but I'm sure it's not unheard of and it's still possible; I'd rather actually have the game in my cool, slightly sticky steam library (as opposed to my warmer but stickier hands) before signing off the others, since I can still request a re-roll if need be, but if I didn't get my key (for whatever reason) I'd rather not have to re-enter any still-running giveaways for it...

Personally I sync every time I either update my wishlist or win/obtain a game on Steam, so an auto-sync is less important to me. Plus there are people that prefer to keep their profiles private (and update once a week or so) and that'd cause issues...

i support that :) its obvious that you dont want to win that game again, so signing off and maybe hiding/forcing to sync for that ga might be cool a nice addition.

It may be when you have 1500 games on your wishlist, too many GA's for them and not enough points!

Plus if you're like me, you'll go for all the ones on your wishlist but then there'll be something you've never heard of come up as part of a bundle you don't have access to and you'll be like "daymn... I gotta try that" and enter multiples for that one as well... /grin

I already do that, but if it was automated would be better.

I remember someone of the staff say that the sync is one of the heaviest operation, I could be wrong tho... beer fault

If you do that manually, you also tell servers to execute that logic.

first is ok, not to auto sync. free weekends mess up things around sg.

+1 for Automatic Removal, it would be nice to at least have that option.

For those thinking of the server load: whenever we click "received", we have to find the Entered giveaways and remove them one by one anyway, by hand -- isn't that the same server load than some sort of automatic removal, or even more?

Now, I would not go for the automatic sync though -- if you are playing that "Free Weekend" game, you do not want to sync your account at that very moment... So, because of such collateral effects, I would not go for that.

Edit: In other words: what Mullins just said (though of course everybody loves my "loquacious" style). Right? Right? Er....

Yeah, maybe doing whole Sync is like using atomic bomb to kill one little annoying mosquito. If SG had intention to add something like that, perhaps it'd be better to just make your SG account know about the game you won until you do full resync. Can't imagine it'd hurt servers.

The problem would still exist to an extent if the automation were to be coded into the site.

As an example: I just entered a metric fuck ton of FF-XIII-2 GAs. They will be ending over a rather large span of time (four hours from now to three weeks from now). Since I am not always able to login everyday it would be possible for me to win, not login before another win, and since I would not have hit the Received option it would still be possible to have won the same title more than once.

Therefore, I think it may not even be worth it to configure the site since user attentiveness is still the best option to avoid the problem.

It's a thought. Or at least auto-sync more frequently. I had a minor issue with that as I bought a bundle recently but forgot that I'd entered giveaways for games in that bundle. The next day I awoke to find that I'd won one of them. I wrote a reply explaining the issue and asking for a reroll to be requested, which did sort the issue out, but I did feel a bit bad for not having the foresight to withdraw as soon as I bought the bundle.

People are not going to like the idea of having a bunch of entries removed automatically because they are limited to 300 points and if they don't have enough room to store the points they will lose them. If you do it manually you can spend the points as you remove the entries.
