Username lock duration ?

A few weeks ago, I wanted to change my SG nickname. The one I wanted was already taken by a guy whose last login here was 2 years ago. I got in touch with him through Steam, and he nicely agreed to change his nickname, so the one I wanted became unused.
I still cannot take it because there is obviously a lock on dropped names. Since support is very busy and my ticket about that is not an emergency at all, I'm asking here if someone knows how many time a name gets locked that way ?
Also a little something while I'm there :)

That's funny. I have the exact same situation. It'd been two years since he'd been on here, had forgotten all about this site, and I kindly asked him to change his account username here so I could use it. Gave him a little bauble for his time, only to find out that the username is now not taken, but not available. My ticket's been sitting there for a bit over a week.

if someone has a name they have it forever if they change the name they have they lock that name to them and the new one they pick at least unless anything was changed from the beta stuff so sadly you can not get the name they had it is to make it so people don't mistake people for other people

When the site moved, you could chnage the name only after 3 months.
and thats true for every nsme change. maybe its the same for droped names?
