The only downside to this is that I think we are getting all these free games because the person giving the games away is doing it to promote other games. For each 50 game giveaway they promote a different game in the description of the giveaway. I think if you prevent their ability to create multiple 50 game giveaways to promote different games, the giveaways will stop.
I just opened a bunch of the giveaways for "Ruzh Delta Z" and so far I have seen 16 different games being promoted in the description of the giveaways. I don't think this is being done just to get more exposure for the games being given away, but to be able to promote a different game in each giveaway.

Promotion is not hampered. The creator has the ability to edit his or her description to include information about additional games.

Also, I really don't see why people are bothered by this. If you are interested in the game you should be happy there are a lot of giveaways you can enter and maybe you will win the game. After you win the game, you will never see these giveaways again.
If you are not interested in the game just click the button next to the name of the game that hides it and you will never see any of these giveaways again.
I can understand about cluttering up the featured list because other developers want to have their game seen and this reduces the chance of that. In that case, instead of restricting the number of giveaways that can be created, isn't there a way to just restrict the number of giveaways for the same game that can be shown at one time in the featured list?

We appreciate the giveaways, but it's more complicated than it needs to be for developers and users. It puts pressure on developers to split their one giveaway into 20 giveaways to get the most bang for their buck, which creates a lot of work for them to setup. As well, even though users are happy for the giveaways, entering 20 giveaways for the same game, instead of a single one seems time consuming and repetitive, for no real reason.
I don't think restricting the giveaways would work, I want users to see all the featured giveaways when expanding the list.

Hi SG, a couple of updates just rolled out to how featured giveaways work on the site. Keep in mind these changes are taking place to future giveaways, and existing featured giveaways will need to run their course over the coming days until the improvements are more apparent.
The Issue
We've noticed developers and users posting multiple featured giveaways for the same game. Our site only displays two featured giveaways by default, and this created some incentive to split up giveaways to cover more ground and space on the homepage. For example, instead of posting a single 200 copy giveaway, posting four 50 copy giveaways made more sense to increase exposure, since there was a greater chance at least one of them would be randomly selected for the top two spots. Also, when a user expanded the featured giveaway list, four giveaways would be more noticeable than one. The downside, we find it's an annoyance to users, and in the above example, they would need to enter four separate giveaways instead of one, while the featured giveaway list is unnecessarily cluttered.
Changes
The site now limits users to one featured giveaway, per game, open at the same time. If you try to post multiple giveaways for 50 or more copies, that overlap in the time frame they're open, you'll receive an error message.
However, since we're now limiting users to a single featured giveaway per game, we want to provide some incentive for posting a greater number of copies. For this reason, the algorithm for the featured giveaway order has changed, and giveaways with a greater number of copies have a higher chance of appearing towards the top. If you refresh the homepage a few times, you'll see this in effect.
