Hi all!

I'm planning to create a giveaway for this sub, which has been listed on Steam since 2018 and is still available. When I search for it either by name or sub ID during the giveaway creation process, SG doesn't return the correct result, so I'm pretty sure the game isn't listed here. I'm sill fairly new to the site and could use some advice for this situation.

  • Why does this happen? Is it an error that it isn't listed, caused by the messiness of handling bundles and packages?
  • SG's support provides an "Add Game to List" category, which is quite ambiguous to me. Is it referring to adding missing games to SG's listings, as is needed in my situation? Or does it mean add an existing game to a different CV list, e.g. from Full Value to Reduced Value?
  • What can be done in this situation? Can I open a support ticket and request the game to be added to SG, or is waiting and hoping it'll be added someday the only thing I can do? (Edit: I'm aware that for bundles, the gifter can always choose to simply create a giveaway for the base game.)

Thank you in advance for answering my questions! Here's a small token of gratitude, and I hope yall are enjoying the weekend.

in general:

  • not an error, giveaways are disabled, it's usually for "bundles" (that usually lead to problems like already owned dlc's and not correctly detected by SG, many rerolls..)

  • it refers add a game which isn't in the list (of all games which you can create a GA) like an old "removed from Steam" game

  • it's usually useless to write Support as this has been done by Support itself :D

a tip: do always search here in Discussions. Lilly usually adds this info (which giveaways you could create for that "sub". also, you usually lose CV in the process as GA won't be for the "full bundle, sub")

hope it helps

edit: i do usually use tons of "usually". not always, tho... usually.

Thank you for the helpful answers icaio <3 much appreciated!

  • I’ve seen bundles given away previously (e.g. the Batman trilogy) so I didn’t even consider the possibility that it’s intentionally disabled.
  • I’ve been wondering about its exactly meaning for quite a bit so I’m glad that’s now cleared up!

I am aware of and thankful for Lilly’s threads for all the deals, but I’ve no idea where to find the info on which giveaways can be created for a sub. I’d appreciated it if you could elaborate for a bit!

Cheers! :D

can't help you on this particular case, but i think that certain bundles are expressly disabled by Support.

Lilly usually writes it, below the tables. and pretty much always when someone of us shows up asking "why can't create that giveaway?" :D

welcome, bud, and thanks again for that token 🐽

edit: canis tip of creating giveaway for base game is what i do, you lose CV, you have a zero problems giveaway (plus, could be a nice surprise for the winner!)

One option in this scenario is to simply make a giveaway under the base game, with a note that says something like "this should be the gold pack." The extra DLC is essentially just a bonus for the giveaway winner.

This option gives a bit less CV, so if that's important to you, this won't be your favorite plan. (And in this case, the base game gives zero CV, so this plan really doesn't work if you care about CV!)

One positive effect of doing the giveaway for the base game is that the base game is an app, so you won't have to worry about re-rolls (because the API can detect app ownership). Whereas if you do the giveaway for a sub, people who own everything can still enter -- the API can't detect sub ownership -- so re-rolls become much more likely.

Thank you for the detailed reply, canis39 <3

make a giveaway under the base game

Yup, I’ve seen hitters do that before which is why I’m vaguely aware of the issues regarding missing bundles, though not the real reasons behind their absence.

I guess I’ll see what to do about it later today!

Yes, it gets used for requests to add games, if you can't pick them on the sg listing.
AND it gets used for tickets about games that aren't listed with the correct cv (some active mods wanted it this way because the "Other" category was nearly never checked and a complete chaos) = full cv but was bundled/free in the past, reduced cv but was free in the past.

Thanks for the insightful reply, Masafor :3 I don’t know much about how the mods and support system work behind the scenes so that was quite helpful!

I think it's the difference between a 'package' sub and 'bundle' (has 'bundle' rather than 'sub' in the Steam url) on Steam. You can giveaway the former but not the latter - I think it's a limitation with the Steam API (i.e. bundle contents depend on what you already own). You will get no help from support asking them to add a bundle.

You mention 'batman trilogy' well both Batman: Arkham Collection and LEGO Batman Trilogy are packages and can be given away on SG. Your example of Starpoint Gemini Warlords Gold Pack is a 'complete the set' bundle, and cannot be given away or added to SG.

Huh! I did notice (for the first time, actually) the difference between the bundle and sub part in the URLs of the Steam pages. Come to think of it, all the multiple-item giveaways I've seen on SG seem to have been packages rather than complete-your-bundle bundles.

Thank you for the very helpful reply thoughtfulhippo! I have no way of verifying the "hippo" part of your username, but I can certainly testify to the "thoughtful" part :p
