So, rumors say in a bit over a week Summer Sale starts. Which probably means Event Cards. Does anyone knows how long before Sales those cards appeared previously - was that always like "10 days earlier", or was that totally random and with every sale it was different number of days?

Expect it to be a week before the sale starts. Given steam's history, expect updates, changes, sale starts, etc. at thursday 10am PST. If sale starts june 11th, cards/badge will probably be appearing at that time on june 4th

Disclaimer: I speculate.

Are you totally speculating, or was that a trend in previous sales?

Speculating because valve's gonna valve, but my speculation is based on past experiences.

Well, you never know what valve will do. He doesn't have Steam-Employee badge, so I'm guessing he doesn't have inside info, so he can only speculate :P

Looks like the start date, June 11, was leaked by a Russian dev... just like last year. And if it's anything like last year, and the year before, there will be cards. It really makes Steam/Valve too much extra money in market fees; I'd bet on cards being part of it this year, again, but my grandfather always taught me that betting on a sure thing was rude.

Last year it was 19th (unless you mean last year Russian leak, then I don't know when they spilled the beans). Yeah, I really hope for those cards.

I was assuming the 11th because all my coupons that can stack with sales prices expire on the 10th

If they start to drop earlier, i think better wait for the sale. if Valve makes some event like last year, you need to complete sets daily. so making all the sets you have before the event start a huge missed opportunity

Unless there won't be an event, just like there wasn't during winter sale...

If they start to drop early, that would probably be the best time to sell them. Wait until the sale has been going for a few days, and the market gets over-saturated, and buy back any cards that you should and that you need. The chance of winning anything from these events have been so small that it might as well be considered 0. Yes, even lower than winning GTA V in a public level 0 giveaway here.

good to know, now i only need to figure when the price for event cards is the highest :-D guessing 21- 30 cent (€) will do

It mostly depends on the item rewards. Last time there weren't any, which made the event cards very cheap.

I'm a newbie, would someone mind telling me how exactly this works? All I know for now is that you can craft badges during sale to get the event cards, but someone said crafting badges could also be for daily quests.

1) When Sale Cards appear, they are crafted instead of coupons.
2) Before last Winter Sale, there were some events where you got some rewards for crafting Event Badges (mostly F2P-games items) or in one case even standard badge gave you chance for win (not much - even biggest public giveaway here has more chances of being won)
3) During Winter Sale 2014 there were no incentive to craft badges beside e-peen, so nobody knows what will happen during this sale.
3.5) Good indicator if Sale will have event or not will be if you can craft Summer Badge before sale - if you can, that probably means it's just sale, with no quests or rewards

Thanks for the detailed reply! So your advice would be to see if there are any events and if not craft them when sale starts to get the sale cards? I got some sets ready, only need to know when the best timing would be for crafting the badges.

Well, it's hard to say.
If there's no event, Event Cards value will drop so much, crafting badges won't give much profit and in most cases it would be smarter to just sell normal cards instead of crafting them to get Event Card.

Of course, nobody knows for sure if there will be event. Only tip that might say if there will be something more would be if Event Cards will be able to change into badge before Sale, or will they be called with some secret names until sale. Secret name (like "mysterious card") will mean there's 90% of chances for event. If card names will be known right away, that's 90% chances of no event.

If secret names - you probably can wait. If known right away - either don't craft at all or craft ASAP and sell.
