Why do you care about achievemtns so much? Looking at your library on Steam, you have achivements in just a few games and even there not a lot. You have playtime in a lot of games, that feature achievements, but did not reach a single one.

i mean, achievments are a cool little feature / nice to have. But before Steam / game launchers games didn't have them. games should be fun to play and not because getting achievments / showing off.

I don't get grinding for 100% achievments, if the gameplay loop doesn't reward it / is fitting.

And i think in a lot of games 100% achievments is just tedious and not fun. People grind for 100% for flexing and showing off.
(but ofc it's fine, if people make that happy, i just don't get it)

I get achievements in general, but bambi350 comments in nearly every thread about something non-Steam "no achievements", despite not having many. If they had decent number of achievements (not achievement hunter levels, but a few more), I would understand their comments, but not with the low numbers their library shows.

Games should be played or not played for whatever reason(s) one desires. Your reasons (or mine) are no more valid than anyone else's.

People grind for 100% for flexing and showing off.

This isn't always the case. Some people accept 100% as a personal challenge, which can add to the allure of a game.

I literally said so:

"(but ofc it's fine, if people make that happy, i just don't get it)" = yeah, it's valid.

But i and others still can have another opinion. And i don't think that it is a smart move to don't play (a free & good) on GOG for the sole reason, because Steam has achievments and GOG doesn't. (at least for that game)

I get your point, but i don't think that i'm unfair with that argumentation and i don't have to be diplomatic with telling my own opinion on topics like that.

Achievements increase the longevity and replayability of games, and it makes you want to raise your skill level to get better in the game. It is also one of the additional features players get because they buy the game rather than pirating it, that's why when games given away for free on EGS/GOG that has no achievements it kind of bothers me because it isn't that different from just pirating the game and playing it cause you are getting the same experience either way.

It's fine if you don't care about games implementing achievements or not, but it doesn't mean people who want it are wrong since both opinions are valid, and if that opinion bothers you then you should probably ignore it and move on, because nowadays people who criticize bambi350 have become more annoying to read through.

See my reply to Tzaar, i never said it isn't valid. But i still can have a stance about generally rejecting games without achievments. (even though the game is apart from that good & free)

And i don't think that this is mean or not respectful in a discussion that i don't think that this is wise or makes sense.

Also aren't there tools to get achievments in SNES roms and such? Could be a thing on PC too.

There are - RetroAchievements is the main one I can think of. I think it works with the Steam distribution of Retroarch too :)

You're welcome! IIRC it's pretty easy to set up and they've been adding achievements for certain popular romhacks too. Hope you give it a go and have fun :)

Well you said you "just don't get it" so i wanted to explain to you why others might have a view that you don't share, and its fine that you have a stance, but you should be willing to accept that other people can have their own stance on what they want to play, how they want to play, and what they want in their games. You saying that its not a smart move to not play is what kind of bothers me and comes off as a bit rude because you don't get to decide that.

No one seemed to have replied in a rude way to you or said anything bad towards you for stating your opinion so i don't understand the reason why you had to mention that you don't have to be diplomatic in stating your opinion, it is after all a discussion forum and everyone is open to share their own opinions and explain why they have that opinion. FYI the initial comment by bambi wasn't rude or disrespectful either, he was simply stating a fact, but it was the replies that started becoming rude.

As for achievements for roms there is RetroAchievements which are fan made achievements for older games, it wasn't what i was referring to though, but there are other tools that can be used to display achievements, but they are clunky and doesn't have the granular stats that steam has.

More annoying to complain about Bambi (who surprisingly hasn't gotten banned from posting yet) than Bambi complaining about petty stuff on nearly every post? That's a surprising warm take. (or maybe I'm living under a rock)

Why should bambi get banned? For his (not dangerous) opinion(s)? He never insults other users back btw even if others do insult him for his simple opinion(s). Of course you can say your opinion about bambis opinion(s), but it shouldn't contain insults/bullying.

He's spammed multiple other posts in the past, which violates rule #6. I wasn't insulting/bullying, just informing of simple rules and that multiple infractions should have action taken.

Ahh yeah, communities and their rules. Guess they are necessary, otherwise there would be chaos all over the place. :D

EDIT: Nah, wasn't directed to you, but it happened before (by others). And generally speaking this is not a good communication style I think.

Have you seen some of the replies to his posts? They venture into personal insults and name calling, i even remember reading a comment a while back saying he is mentally unwell, you can even just see some examples on this very thread (or just take a look at the EPIC thread) while his comment was simply stating a fact that the steam version has achievements and GOG doesn't. So yea i find those type of comments very annoying but if you find my opinion to be a hot (or warm) take then that's fine by me, but i will stand by what i said.

EDIT: Take a look at this comment, and tell me if you are ok with that kind of comments? https://www.steamgifts.com/go/comment/rEzSKJ6

Thank you for sharing an example. I don't frequent the chat as much so I'm unaware of some things. While someone may be annoying it's not something worth warranting comments like that.

I didn't mean hot/warm take to be an insult, by the way. I was just surprised to hear that given what I have seen in my limited interactions. Apologies if it came off that way.

You don't have to apologize, i wasn't insulted or took offense by what you said, but now that you have seen an example i hope you get what i meant by my comment cause the initial comments by bambi are rather harmless even if some might find it annoying, but the replies have gotten more and aggressive and personal and people just keep dogpiling on him which completely takes the center stage in every thread and there is just a huge comment thread where people just go on to insult one guy for wanting achievements in his games.

You are underestimating people too much.
Like there are steam groups where literally the only purpose is to show off their delisted game collection or rare inventory game.
There are thousands of inventory gift games which will never be played by anyone. But people will still buy these game to showcase on their profile. That's it.

Look at this recent post in "deals" page.
https://www.steamgifts.com/discussion/Rl7Pu/marvels-avengers-the-definitive-edition-80-off/

People are buying & will buy the marvel's avenger cause it's going to be delisted in September. That's the major reason. Not to play. Just to own. Tell me is that any less crazy? For buying a digital game just for that? Not even a physical copy.
There are many youtube channel where it's only gimmick is 100% achievement of a game or trophy hunting. They play it for fun & to showcase it to everyone. Just search for ps platinum or trophy hunting on youtube.

Again, I completely understand to beat a game for fun. Like I am replaying Sekiro multiple times to get different endings whereas people just use multiple saves to get all endings.
But you also have realize that people like to showcase their achievement. Just like people changing their steam profile. Even on steamgifts, there is a thread for giving awards for cool steam profile. Isn't that depressing too for some people?

I'm a person that totally understand the desire to collect games, achievements, to customize and showcase your steam profile. I'm a collector too, not only from games but comics. Just check my profile and you'll see it. BUT, the point is that I know that all of this is for myself. I am the only one who really care about what I got. Saying that "beating a game with nothing to show for it is depressing" is too much for me. If he's a achievement hunter, good for him, there's no problems on it. Each person has your own universe of desires and pleasures, but what he said is a little arrogant in my point of view

That's where people differ. It's okay to have different preferences. I'm the opposite. It's depressing to me to think that I would have to get 100% of achievements to call a game complete. I'm not that OCD. Haha! I just enjoy a game for what it is and the achievements are extra.

If a game doesn't have achievements and it's incredibly fun to play, I could spend 100s of hours on it. I have done. I play some DRM-free games.

I do like having achievements in some games though to give myself a bit of a challenge. If a game is boring without them, then the game wasn't very good to begin with. ;)

i agree 100%, thanks for finding the right words. It's just nice to play a game for the sole purpose of fun, even though it hasn't integrated achievments (like Ancient Enemy on GOG).
Personal preference is fine, but i don't get it, why one would reject a game just because achievments are missing, even though it is fun!

There are so many great oldschool systems and games you can play with ROMs and you don't have achievments there without third party tools. Why missing out on this? (if you like oldschool games / SNES etc.)

I think what's actually sad is that you need validation from other people to enjoy a videogame. You want them to see you achieved a certain milestone or you feel like you wasted your time, as if games are just a tool to gain social prestige and not something humans do for fun.

Would you say that going on an awesome trip somewhere far away and not taking pictures of what you did and where you went to show people back home is somehow depressing because there is nothing to show off? The fact that you went, had a blast, and now have some great memories in your head is what really matters, right? You were there and was awesome! The number of pictures in the camera? ehh, who cares?

To me, the "accomplishment" of playing a game is making it through the experience that was crafted for my enjoyment. That might be running around a medieval world as a bad ass magic slinging wizard or exploring space or running a successful farm or navigating a story full of interesting characters and events. How well-crafted that experience is is something I've learned to appreciate. Whether there are or aren't achievements don't change that experience in any way for me.

to be fair, every game ive 100% i dont even know what the plot to the games were lol. i spam click through all text, and i skip all cut scenes, im just playing the game for the achievements. i just dont care about the story or gameplay of games. too time consuming to actually read/watch/listen to whole games.

since i was a kid ive accumalated about 200,000 hours in gameplay and probably 250,000 hours if i could go back in time and clock in console game play time. (so most of my life is just playing games lol) but i do have confirmed 200,000 hours. over 60,000 hours just in world of warcraft alone. i just dont have time to play games for story
